DEADPOOL 2 Writer Rhett Reese Debunks Recent Rumors Of X-FORCE Characters Making An Appearance

Deadpool 2 writer/producer Rhett Reese has taken to Twitter to debunk a recent rumor that three key members of X-Force would be appearing in the sequel's post-credits scene. More past the jump...

We always recommend that any rumor be viewed with a healthy dose of skepticism until more details emerge, but when it comes to Deadpool in particular, wannabe scoopers seem to have been way off the mark so far.

The other night, we reported on a rumor that 20th Century Fox was currently looking for actors to play Shatterstar, Sunspot and Feral in Deadpool 2's post-credits stinger, but writer Rhett Reese has now set the record straight.

Reese doesn't go into specifics so there might still be some truth to this (it does seem unlikely that the film wouldn't have some kind of X-Force connection, after all), but for the time being it looks like we can put this one to bed.

Are you disappointed that these guys won't be popping up in Deadpool 2, or would you have gone with different X-Force characters anyway? Sound off in the usual place.

I love when writers and directors flat-out debunk stuff from the baseless rumour mill. James Mangold and James Gunn have been my favourites.

To good to be true.
Shatterstar...my god, if they end up exploring his origin story! :P

Aww it saddens me so because I so wanted to believe that we will be getting Shatterstar on this X-Force roster.

@TheUnworthyThor - There's nothing here stating you wont.

@Deklipz - Well yes obviously not but the difference between confirmation once someone was cast and now debunking of the rumor altogether is a huge chasm, especially when it's a character that's far from a guarantee to see on the big screen.

@TheUnworthyThor - It never made sense in the first place why they would go out of their way to cast the rest of the X-Force 2-3 years before the X-Force movie just to shoot a quick post-credit scene.

And what kind of crappy intro would that be anyways.

@Ryguy88 - It never made sense to me because of the inclusion of Sunspot since we know him to be in New Mutants. But it made sense to me to cast some of the other members of X-Force since they already cast and are introducing Cable and Domino.

And I fully expect them to start filming X-Force next year for release in 2019 (and then Deadpool 3 in 2020) so I don't think it's all that early.

Since the rumor was just quick cameo in postcredit scene I don't think it would have been a bad introduction, because it really wouldn't have been an introduction, just a quick tease of what's to come the next year.

But yeah I never really believed it because of the Sunspot inclusion, I just really hope Shatterstar is included on the roster.

@TheUnworthyThor - Im trying to think of a time when an actor was cast for a future film but made their debut in a post credit scene. I dont think thats common stuff.

They name drop all the time, like with Cable and Adam Warlock, but acrually casting i dont think happens.

@Ryguy88 - Well Nick Fury is the most obvious one I think. The character of Apocalypse was introduced in a postcredit cameo but obviously not the actor that would go on to portray him. Amazing Spider-man tried to do it with Fiers but the series was cancelled. I wasn't thinking something huge, just something quick, a few images. Shatterstar appearance alone says a lot about what to expect in the future.

@TheUnworthyThor - I just never expected them to cast the actual actor but I could see something in the vein of Thanos, Apocalypse where its a different actor in a brief shot or a name drop like Adam Warlock.

With the introduction of Cable and Domino as new characters, and probably a few more, there are already enough characters to deal with. I hope they are not trying too much with this sequel. Deadpool was amazing for its badass simplicity.

@Unites - my biggest fear for this movie is overstuffed plot/cast. Keep it grounded like the original but with bigger action.

It was a pretty stupid rumor. Casting Sunspot for Deadpool 2 -when its already been reported Sunspot is being cast for New Mutants. WTF? How can 2 different actors play the same part in the same year? I know this is Fox -and their reputation of not caring about continuity but if 2 actors in the same role appearing just months from each other -that is the stupidest idea you can make with world building. But then again -this is Fox...

And then again, we haven't got all the casting for New Mutants finalized yet.

@String - they did that when singer wanted caliban in x men apoc, even though Mangold was using him in Logan
