Deadpool and Deadpool 2 star TJ Miller has been embroiled in various controversies over the past few years, with allegations of sexual assault and bullying on the set of Silicon Valley derailing his career. The actor and comedian has only worked sporadically since, and it's been clear for some time that he probably isn't welcome on the set of Deadpool 3.
Despite that, Miller claims it's his decision not to return for the threequel, and he's blaming Ryan Reynolds' on-set antics.
"As the character, he was, like, horrifically mean to me. But to me. As if I'm Weasel," the actor says in the video below. "He was like, 'You know what's great about you, Weasel? You're not the star, but you do just enough exposition that it's funny and then we can leave and get back to the real movie.'"
Miller took those comments personally, believing that Reynolds was aiming those remarks at him, the actor, rather than the character of Weasel. "That's exactly why he said that. Because I'm not funnier than he is at all, right? And I haven't been in more movies than him."
Saying he thinks "it's weird that he hates me," Miller insisted that he won't work with Reynolds again, despite the fact that, as far as we're aware, he was never asked to return for Deadpool 3. The actor added that his former co-star is an "insecure dude" and noted that, "I think after he got super, super famous from the first Deadpool, then things kinda changed. I think he was like, 'See? You guys see?'"
While Deadpool served as a comeback of sorts for Reynolds, he was already a household name and an actor who had starred in a lot of hit movies (along with some box office flops).
Regardless, Miller would conclude by addressing his lack of a future in the Deadpool franchise. "I don't really think you should do something for more than five years. I think it's weird to just go back and play Weasel 10 years later."
"I don't wish them any ill will. I think [Reynolds] should make a Deadpool 3 and continue to make movies," he continued. "I just think he doesn't like me, and I thought it was weird how he expressed that."
Deadpool 3 is set to be released in theaters on September 6, 2024.
