Considering the initial and conservative projections, Aladdin is heading into a whole new world during its opening weekend. With a very crowded summer, many analysts were expecting the film to do moderate work during its first four days, instead, Disney will be happy to hear it did far more than expected.

According to Deadline, 2019's Aladdin remake grossed an estimated $110+ million for the holiday weekend, with $88.5 over the first three days. This is far more than the $60-70 million three-day analysts were expected when tracking first hit the trades. The film earned an A Cinemascore this weekend, indicating fantastic word of mouth, something that will be a great asset going forward.

Considereing that the film cost $183 million to begin with, the adaptation still has a long way to go before churning a profit, but if the domestic performance is any indication of how the film is doing internationally, the film cover should its production budget in the next few days.

It was as enjoyable as The Jungle Book for me. John Wick 3 really set the summer tone for me. Next up is Godzilla!

Saw it and it's absolutely great! One of the very best parts is Will Smith as the genie! The only disappointment for me was the villain. He just wasn't sinister enough and I think they cast the wrong actor for the part.

@kirbyfan - will still be as probably the weakest part for me. The standouts were really the actors that played Aladdin and Jasmine. I think the best parts of the movie focused on them and and and not the Genie.

Probably my favorite Disney remake.

@Minghagz - Cinderella was really good, I thought. The perfect update to the original film.

It was very good, and it was a breakdancing movie. The only weak things were Jasmine's 2 woman empowerment songs and her story arch for equality between men and women, something that was not seen in that time or culture... but then again this is a FANTASY movie 😆

Off topic I got out of Booksmart a few hours ago and loved it. Really funny.

@MrCamw1 - it was a really good movie too I was mostly surprised by how good a director Olivia Wilde is like with the shots

@StarlordsDad - agreed for a first time director she felt natural at it. I also like when actors branch out into directing. Wilde with Booksmart, Jordan Peele with Get Out...hell Brie Larson with Unicorn Store. I like all then doing something different.

@Ayush - I mean some changes are better. I like the backstory they give Jafar and I like the background stuff they give Jasmine. But what they do with her best friend (the new character they added) I had to roll my eyes. Plus I'm sorry, Speechless (her new big song in the film) Is a good song on it's own but [frick] me it doesn't fit in this movie (the type of song is completely different from the other ones) And literally stopping the movie for her to sing it and have her big moment. I was laughing at how unintentionally funny that was.

But I won't shit on it too much, like I said it's competent, and I'll give it this. It's better then Beauty and the beast, at least the changes don't open up plot holes.

Saw this one last night, I really enjoyed it, more than I thought I would. Smith and Scott were the standouts - you could tell they were both giving their all in singing and acting. The guy that plays Jafar (Marwan Kenzari) was miscast, IMO. It didn't take away from my enjoyment of the movie, though.

Here's my ranking of the live-action Disney re-imaginings so far:

1. The Jungle Book (2016)
2. Christopher Robin (2018)
3. Aladdin (2019)
4. Beauty & The Beast (2017)
5. Dumbo (2019)
6. Maleficent (2014)
7. Alice in Wonderland / Through the Looking Glass (2010/2016)
8. Mary Poppins Returns (2018)
9. Cinderella (2015)
10. Pete's Dragon (2016)

@L0RDbuckethead - Mary Poppins doesn't really count as a live-action re-imagining. Just a delayed sequel tbh.

With all the hate towards Middle Eastern people and culture, I'm glad Disney chose to give us this movie right now.
