Disney To Surpass $10 Billion At Global Box Office Before STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Even Hits Theaters

With five films having passed $1 billion globally in 2019 — and a probable sixth in Frozen 2 — it should come as no surprise that Disney is having a record-breaking year at the box office with over $10B.

2019 has been a monster year for the House of Mouse at the box office. Riding the success of its various different movie studios — Marvel, Pixar, Walt Disney Animation, etc. — Disney is about to hit a major box office milestone as it nears $10 billion worldwide for the year.

According to Deadline, Disney's current global box office cume for 2019 sits at $9.997 billion ($3.28B domestic / $6.717B international) — a new record for worldwide box office for any studio in a calendar year. It breaks the previous record, which Disney already owned, of $7.6B in 2016.

This number does not take into account Fox titles, which are now under Disney's banner after this year's major acquisition. With those numbers included, Disney already sits at $11.94B ($3.8B domestic/$8.14B international) this year.

Disney has absolutely dominated the 2019 box office, becoming the first studio to have five movies gross over $1 billion in a single calendar year: Avengers: Endgame ($2.798B), The Lion King ($1.656B), Captain Marvel ($1.130B), Toy Story 4 ($1.074B) and Aladdin ($1.051B). Frozen 2 will soon make it six as the Walt Disney Animation Studios' sequel currently sits at $919.7M globally.

Disney's box office cume will only continue to grow for 2019 with the upcoming release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The final film of the newest trilogy, which will also end the Skywalker saga, opens in theaters on December 20. It will almost certainly top the $1 billion globally, giving Disney a total of seven films to hit the mark in 2019 alone.
