How Wreck-It Ralph Can Be the Next Toy Story
Today, June 6th 2012, Walt Disney Animation Studios released the first trailer for the highly anticipated 3D computer-animated comedy film Wreck-It Ralph. Featuring a nice, creative starring cast of John C. Reily (as Wreck-It Ralph), Jack McBrayer (as Fix-It Felix Jr.), Jane Lynch (as Sergeant Calhoun) and Sarah Silverman (as Vanellope von Schweetz), the first trailer looked quite promising. Of course, this is comicbookmovie.com, our trusted site where we can hear updated news, opinions and more about our favorite blood-crushing superheroes like Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, etc.... But, films like this are a refreshing addition to the site, and can always bring out the inner child in some of us. In this piece, I will discuss several reasons why I believe that Wreck-It Ralph, which is set to release in theaters on November 2, 2012, has the potential to be the next Toy Story like animated film franchise.
The first trailer of the movie, which can be found below, gives us the perfect first, in-depth look at the plot of the movie, and tease us with what we’ll see. First off, the movie looks visually stunning. When I showed some friends the trailer, they all believed it was another Pixar film. The characters and interesting settings look amazing, and it already looks to be at the same animated level as Pixar’s new film Brave. These beautiful graphics will surely be pleasing to anyone, and will definitely make this movie more enjoyable.
Aside from the animation aspect, let’s take a look at the cast. With animated movies, it’s so hard to see whether an actor fits or doesn’t fit. Since you can’t actually see them, some people won’t care. However, if you take a look at the greatest animated movies of all time, you can see how much better a perfect cast can make the film. For example, let’s take a look at CBM’s favorite movie, The Incredibles. I’m not saying this has to be CBM’s favorite movie, but after reading a lot of posts, and knowing that this is a group of members discussing superhero movies, the Pixar Academy Award winning film is by far one of the best animated movies of all time. Overall a fantastic movie, there are plenty of great castings here. Craig T. Nelson as Mr. Incredible, Holly Hunter as Elastigirl, Jason Lee as Syndrome... the list goes on. The one casting I’d like to take a look at is our very own beloved actor Samuel L. Jackson, who played Frozone. Our very own Nick Fury didn’t have a starring role in the film, but he co-starred, creating one of the most memorable characters of the entire film. Samuel L. Jackson voiced this role to perfection. The attitude, his tone, everything fit perfectly. His voice was entertaining, certainly enlightening, and turned a cool character into a great character. Like in the video posted below, I still love to this day the clip “Honey, where’s my super suit?” Ahhhh, there couldn’t have been a better voice choice than Samuel L. Jackson for this role.
Bringing the conversation back to Wreck-It Ralph, the cast seems great. John C. Reily is such a funny actor. Stepbrothers, in my opinion, is one of the funniest movies of all time. Yes I said it, all time. Reily’s voice is calming and playful, yet when he delivers, he does it so perfectly. His voice is distinctive, and can be the perfect fit for a character like Ralph. Only time can tell if John C. Reily can live up to the hype I’m hoping for, but with the direction of this film, and his voice, I believe he can make Ralph a truly remarkable and memorable character.
Now it’s time to forward this conversation to our first footage, the trailer that was released today! The trailer gave the perfect introduction to this movie, and after I saw it, I was filled with excitement. Come on, you know I have to believe in this film so much that I’ll have to post an article about it on comicbookmovie.com. The scene that really did it for me was the scene with Ralph and the support group of the arcade's various villain characters. Some of these villains take us back to our childhood, where we spent hours and hours trying to beat these villains. The villains shown include Clyde the orange ghost from Pacman, Bowser from Super Mario Bros. (YES, BOWSWER!), Dr. Eggman from Sonic the Hedgehog, Kano from Mortal Kombat, Chun-Li from Street Fighter and more! So many memorable characters, it’s hilarious to see all these villains in one room together on the big screen. How can you not enjoy seeing these guys? It’s not possible, these villains are apart of our childhood. This scene is great, and I cannot wait to see who else, and how these villains are shown. The rest of the trailer looks great, it shows you a little bit of the characters we’ll be seeing, some funny scenes, and some good ol’ child like scenes that I’m sure will put a smile on anyones face, regardless of if there 5 or 70. From the looks of the trailer, this movie alone seems to be a great time. In the end, having a great, fun time at the movies is the real goal.
If you are just skimming through this article, thinking “I don’t want to read this,” this right here is the one paragraph I highly suggest you should read. So in the nicest and most polite away, READ HERE! I have gave you a number of reasons of why I think this animated film will be great. But, I still have not even addressed the tittle of this article, how Wreck-It Ralph will be the next Toy Story! The wait is over, and the main reason why I believe this film has Toy Story potential is because of how original and creative it is. When Toy Story was released in 1995, no one had ever really seen anything like it. The visual effects, voices, plot.. it was all original, heart-warming, and fun! Most importantly, they brought toys in an average boys bedroom to life. The makers of Toy Story made these characters extremely funny, and incredibly original. “To infinity and beyond!” There’s so much greatness, pureness, and originality in all three Toy Story films. People cried after walking out of Toy Story 3, no other animated film has ever done that! Wreck-It Ralph looks to be bringing a whole new creative, interesting plot line. Think about it, characters in a arcade game doing a job, and being actual real people, it’s a spectacular idea. It’s so original, and differs from all of the reboots, sequels and too similar films we see today. It’s a new idea that has the potential to spark a whole new animated universe. This type of animated movie directly makes me think of Toy Story. It’s practically Toy Story with arcade games. What’s not to love?
As you can tell, I have an extremely large amount of faith in Wreck-It Ralph. Don’t get me wrong, no movie can ever replace the Toy Story franchise. What Toy Story has done, and the way it shaped so many of our childhoods, it’s unthinkable to say a movie can out do it. But, Wreck-It Ralph has the spark that can enlighten a new type of classic, for kids, teens, and adults now. It’s freshness, originality, and bold theme is truly one of a kind. Putting faith in a movie like this, especially on comicbookmovie.com, is certainly risky. But, I truly love what I am starting to see out of this film. Wreck-It Ralph is hitting theaters November 2, 2012, and you know come that midnight release, I will be there. Movies these days have been about making the most money as possible, rarely do you walk out of a movie saying with a great, big smile, “wow, that was great.” Wreck-It Ralph has that potential. Go see the film, bring your friends, family, co-workers, whoever! Having a good time at the movies is a great feeling, and with so many of the stupid and childish animated movies that have been made in the past years, we finally have the perfect one. My final words are simply.... have fun!
