Disney has released a new trailer for its upcoming animated feature, Encanto, which tells the story of "an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto."

Stephanie Beatriz voices 15-year-old Mirabel, the only child without a unique gift who’s struggling to find her place in her family. She'll be joined by María Cecilia Botero as Mirabel’s grandmother Alma, aka Abuela; Angie Cepeda and Wilmer Valderrama as Mirabel’s parents, Julieta and Agustín; and Diane Guererro and Jessica Darrow as Mirabel’s sisters, Isabela and Luisa.

Disney has also announced that John Leguizamo (Ice Age) has joined the cast as Mirabel's Uncle Bruno. “I was so pumped to be asked to the party,” said the actor. “Lin-Manuel [Miranda] wrote me a rap, and I flipped out! Plus, this is such a beautiful story set in Colombia. It's a first in so many ways. The magic is enchanting, the comedy is so sharp, and the world created is irresistible.”

Check out the trailer below along with a new poster.

The movie features all-new songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, Moana), and is directed by Byron Howard (Zootopia, Tangled) and Jared Bush (co-director Zootopia).

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Encanto opens in theaters November 24, 2021.

Normally I'm not that interested in Disney's animated features (or Pixar's for that sake), but the involvement of Lin-Manuel Miranda is enough to turn me around on that

The Kingdom Dance scene from Tangled is probably my favorite sequence from modern Disney, and throw Lin-Manuel Miranda on top of that?

"I'm losing my gift!" Girl, you're built like a tank, half your gift is covered by your hard work.

If you're a weirdo like me that feels this should be watched in Spanish, here's the trailer:

That said, Lin-Manuel Miranda lost a his luster with me, and parts of Puerto Rico, after lobbying so hard to get PROMESA passed. He just rubs me the wrong way, so it sucks supporting him.

The main character seems like a self-insert of Charise, the director/writer of the movie. Lets hope the writing is more than what it seems on the surface. “The everyone is special” “take your participation trophies” is a boring message in my opinion and I hope they go for a more meaningful message.
