Disney has announced that production on the sequel to Enchanted, Disenchanted, has officially begun. Directed by Adam Shankman (The Wedding Planner), this live-action follow-up to the beloved classic is currently shooting in Ireland and will arrive on Disney+ in 2022.

Starring Amy Adams (Justice League) as the hopelessly romantic and eternally optimistic Giselle now married and living in Monroeville, the movie also brings back Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy) as Giselle’s husband, the cynical pragmatist Robert Philip, James Marsden (X-Men) as the dashing but daft Prince Edward from Andalasia, and Idina Menzel (Frozen) as Nancy Tremaine, the former dressmaker now married to Prince Edward.

The cast also includes Maya Rudolph as Malvina, Giselle’s new adversary in Monroeville, Kolton Stewart as Malvina’s son, Yvette Nicole Brown as Rosalyn, Jayma Mays as Ruby, Oscar Nunez as Edgar, and introduces Gabriella Baldacchino as Robert Philip’s now-grown daughter, Morgan.

"Working again with Disney has been like coming home," Shankman says. "With Amy and this extraordinary cast, Alan and Stephen’s mind blowing new score, and Barry and Disney’s support, I just hope to bring magic and joy to audiences around the world."

Disenchanted features the much-anticipated return of Giselle, the princess from the fairy tale world of Andalasia banished to Manhattan who found her real Princess Charming in divorce lawyer Robert Philip. 15 years later, Giselle moves to the suburb of Monroeville with Robert and their teenage daughter Morgan, where she must juggle the challenges that come with a new home and discover what happily ever after truly means to her and her new family.

The movie will also feature new songs from Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz.

Seems like Amy Adams is in need of a win these days.

@Kumkani - Good to see Pat back. With his philanthropic work I wasn't sure he was acting anymore.

I know right ! She’s such a great actress but her latest films haven’t been well received even tho she’s amazing in them. She’s been snubbed at the Oscars many times.

I wonder what happened to the girl that played the daughter in the first one.

I feel like this is a sequel that actually makes sense... especially if they’ve managed to get the whole cast back.

A decade too late.

@Darkknight2149 - We live in an age of nostalgia, not really (every age has this, we just live in a social media world), and prequels. Whether it's too late or not is irrelevant really.

@The1st -
Was that film even big enough to ride the nostalgia train? I doubt it. I think they missed the threshold to get people excited for a sequel after 2012. They better make it damn good, or this is going to be one of those films like Slenderman that comes out way too late and underperforms.

@Darkknight2149 - Doesn't matter if it was big enough, you could say it's irrelevant. Clearly they think there's enough of a market and these films really never cost much to produce so it's not necessarily a gamble for them. Time will tell I guess.

The first movie was good but I dread to think what they'll churn out with the sequel,especially how Hollywood is at the moment.

First one is great. Amy Adam's performance is just fantastic. I always sing "Happy Working Song" at karaoke, and the entire park sequence is just gold. Hope they can pull this off; at least it will be more than just a retread.
