LADY AND THE TRAMP: Justin Theroux Set As Lead; Will Debut On The Disney Streaming Service

With its 2019 debut looming, Disney is ramping up production on titles for its brand new streaming service. The latest of which, Lady and the Tramp, has now found its star in the form of Justin Theroux...

As streaming services become more common, it seems as though the quality of their content is becoming more competitive. In what will likely be direct competition to streaming giants like Hulu and Netflix, Disney is taking huge steps to make sure their product makes a whole lot of noise in 2019. The service, which recently revealed that it's working on a new season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, has announced that a live-action retelling of Lady and the Tramp is in the works as well.

Directed by Charlie Bean (The Lego Ninjago Movie), the film has started rounding out its cast. According to Collider, Justin Theroux, who was acclaimed for his performance in The Leftovers, will be voicing the Tramp.

Unfortunately, this will be the first of Disney's CG/live-action retellings that will not hit theaters. This is a risk due to the undeniable benefit and profit a theatrical release would give the film. At this point, Disney seems very confident its streaming service will be a success. The real question is, will you be one of Disney's subscribers?

@kRAVENklaw - I'd love to see a HUNCHBACK remake directed by Sam Mendes (Skyfall, American Beauty) with Taron Egerton as Quasimodo, Jeremy Irons as Frollo, John Cena's daughter from BLOCKERS as Esmeralda, and Raza Jaffrey as Clopin!

I want to see

@JK2point0 -
From what I recall all of those are happening save for Snow White I think.
Bambi would be fantastic if they stick closer to the book.
And I think Fox & the Hound would be great as well as heart wrenching if they ever did it.
Christopher Robin is gonna make me bawl.

@kRAVENklaw - Yeah haha they're definitely planning these out YEARS in advance. Some probably won't come to fruition. But they're definitely all in the works as of right now.

I have heard rumblings of Reese Witherspoon dropping out of that Tink film, so that one is likely to get axed, for example.

@L0RDbuckethead -
The fact that they even considered a movie just about Tinker Bell baffles me, and that's coming from someone who's favorite story of all time is Peter Pan.
As a matter of fact, all the spin-offs and prequels do (as cool as a Captain Hook origin could be, as long as Pan isn't the villain, I hate that trope).
The remakes though are all intriguing, especially if they pull more from the original books and fairy tales instead of strictly the cartoons.

@kRAVENklaw - I'm afraid of the same thing… can't even watch the trailer without shedding a tear of joy. I may have to wait for the DVD to preserve my macho image :-) or just use that good old "sand in the eye" line

@kRAVENklaw - Yeah, Disney is just adapting all their old properties into live-action format now that that technology exists to do it. All these crazy stories feature magic and talking animals, and now all of that is possible with the CGI technology available.

It's great content that has proven to sell well, as almost all these stories are considered "classics" in terms of animation (some, not all). It's definitely something Disney know they can make money on.

Plus, who isn't willing to work with Disney - did you see some of those random names attached to those projects? lol

I think the best combination is to have both Netflix and Disney services. The rest are quite far behind. I'll just have to watch Handmaid's Tale and American Gods in some streaming site and it's sorted.

I'm not looking forward to this streaming service war that were headed for with all these companys trying to make their own Netflix service.

Ehmmmmmmm...I don't know.

Although, out of everything announced for this flick, I do like the choice of Justin Theroux as Tramp. He can unlikable and rebellious but also charming and romantic when need be really well.
