THE LION KING - First Social Media Reactions For Disney's Latest Live-Action Remake Have Been Revealed

The Lion King screened for critics last night, and the first reactions for Disney's live-action movie have now been revealed. The question is, does Jon Favreau's remake do the animated classic justice?

The Lion King arrives in theaters next week, and following the first screening of the movie last night, reactions shared on social media have begun to find their way online.

Director Jon Favreau has assembled an amazing cast and we know from The Jungle Book that the filmmaker should be able to do the animated classic justice. Well, while the "live-action" versions of characters like Pumbaa and Scar have generated a lot of discussion online, it definitely sounds like this take on The Lion King will make fans very, very happy.

In fact, aside from how strange it is to see photorealistic versions of these animals bursting into song, it sounds like this might just be Disney's best remake to date.

These first reactions are always so effing dramatic. Hard to take them seriously. But it does sound like we will get a visually pleasing faithful recreation of the original, with a few standout performances

I'm still trying to understand where a fully CGI movie is now considered "Live Action".

I never had much attachment to the originals of these live-action remakes. But The Lion King was MY CHILDHOOD. If you mess this one up, Disney, so help me god....

So what I gather is that it's visually immaculate (except for some facial movements from the animals), the voice acting was surprisingly good, the music was stellar but overall the movie coasts somewhere between fine and great?

More or less what I was expecting.

@DnA - The facial animation looks so [frick]ing awkward:

I understand this is going to be hugely popular and I'll see it at some point too, but my give-a-[frick] meter barely registers with these remakes, especially since they have all been pretty boring for the most part so far.

Also, remember the days when people used to complain about the Hobbit being featured on a comic book movie website? Well now we're covering the fukcing Lion King!

Why has it taken James Cameron just over 10 years to create not only one but three sequels when the CGI in those films look more dated than a one off reinventing story of Lion King in live action, that only too roughly over a year to complete?

@Se4M4NSt4ine - Far be it from to defend blue Dances With Wolves, but the animation aged incredibly well. I'd say Avatar looks better than Endgame and it'll probably look better than The Lion King, too. Whatever Cameron is doing, it'll probably stick better.

Glad to see good reviews.

I'll be frank, most of the people hating om this film here are biased, either because this is a remake of a childhood favorite, or because it's from Disney. It's a shame, imo.

Fortunately, the general audience seemingly has no bias.
