DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Concept Art Reveals Captain Carter's Original, Much Bigger Role DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Concept Art Reveals Captain Carter's Original, Much Bigger Role

Like most Marvel Studios movies, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness went through some big changes from page to screen, including Captain Carter's role being reduced considerably. Check it out!

It's become pretty commonplace for Marvel Studios to make sweeping changes to its movies, whether that's during production or with reshoots. This approach to storytelling is one that's worked well for them, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is another MCU movie that looked much different on the page than it did in theaters.

For example, the movie originally opened with Mordo being beheaded by the Scarlet Witch (a sequence which was actually shot), while The Illuminati lineup seemingly changed multiple times.

That group has received something of a mixed response from fans, primarily due to how quickly they were all killed. In Captain Carter's case (she wasn't the Captain Carter we met in What If...? but another Variant), she had a short battle with Wanda Maximoff before being sliced in half by her own shield.

Now, some newly surfaced storyboards from artist Soren Bendt reveal a version of the Doctor Strange sequel which saw Cap given quite a bit more to do.

As you can see below, Peggy looked set to help Doctor Strange and his allies escape from the rampaging Scarlet Witch, making a heroic sacrifice to buy them the time needed. This would have been a much better use of the hero, though we're guessing the sequence was cut either for timing reasons or restrictions caused by the pandemic.

Captain Carter's live-action debut actually disappointed many fans due to her being portrayed, like other members of The Illuminati, in a somewhat villainous light.

Whether Marvel Studios has future plans for her is tough to say, though Avengers: Secret Wars will likely be the best possible opportunity to give Hayley Atwell another shot at the role.

What do you guys think?

Personally, I liked Captain Carter in both MOM and What If? and Haley Atwell's charisma made her character that much more enjoyable.

Kinda wish this happened, would have made the Illuminati less of douchebags (I'm looking at you Mordo, Black Bolt, and Maria Rambeau).

@FilmGuy7878 -

LOVED her in What If? It's what made me more interested to see a live-action Captain Carter because they did that short story so well...but she was completely useless in MoM.

Question: Does she always throw her shield around a room before she enters to meet a visitor? Weird way to introduce yourself.

A lot of MoM just didn't make sense and I regretted buying two tickets for it.

@Humperdink - I guess the shield is to assert dominance idk lol.

MoM was a confusing movie for sure and it was kinda slow in a few parts but they did Wanda's villain arc very well. It was very rushed but Olsen's performance made it work imo. America Chavez was also a lot more entertaining than I expected her to be.

As for Captain Carter, I NEED a Special Presentation about her set in the 50s. We could even get characters like Union Jack, Spitfire, and Baron Blood involved.

@Humperdink - If she’s trying to demand the person’s attention then I’m sure she does. But mostly film is a visual medium and a dramatic entrance to reveal a character makes sense.

I like how they were all being dispatched immediately. It emphasized how ridiculously powerful and unstoppable Wanda was

@WhatIfRickJames - The Illuminati, more like The Expendables.

@WhatIfRickJames - I can see that, but I would've preferred a good ole' Avengers vs Thanos level of battle before the defeat. In the end, the peak scene of this movie felt like "oh, nevermind".

That scene was cheap. Just. Cheap. MoM is a realm of infinite possibilities that turned out idiotic nonsense in the end. I hope Ant-Man picks 💩 up, but at this point- I expect more meh than wow.

Hayley looks so fine in this film. Clearly fitter, probably for her role in MI.

The Illuminati had to come off circumstantially as pompous dopes, so it would have been a little odd. Better to have just Xavier only to at least show some hope for Doctor Strange, cause we've been with him for all those X-Men films and that's his best feature.

Of course she was going to have a bigger role. The incredibly powerful Dr. Strange needs to be rescued or bested by women the entire movie….in the MSheU.

I really enjoy her as captain Carter. I'm sure she'll return in Secret Wars

@TyrantBossMedia - I think this is further projecting things.

@dagenspear - How is it projecting when I am not writing a movie nor am I in favor of minimizing male characters over forced pandering toward female characters?

You know that's what they're doing. You see it as clearly as we do. You just don't want to admit it.
