In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we watched as Wanda Maximoff became increasingly corrupted by the Darkhold's influence. Determined to get her children back after losing them in the WandaVision finale, the Scarlet Witch headed down a dark path and even killed Earth-838's Illuminati in cold blood.
When all was said and done, Wanda saw the error of her ways and destroyed every copy of the Darkhold across the entire Multiverse. She also buried herself beneath Mount Wundagore, presumably bringing a permanent end to her story.
We're expecting the Avenger to return, however, especially as a flash of red could be seen which many fans believe was a sign the hero-turned-villain-turned-hero-again transported herself to safety before she was crushed. Now, a redemption arc awaits and only time will tell when and where that plays out.
In the meantime, new concept art from the Doctor Strange sequel has started doing the rounds on social media, showcasing a monstrous version of the Scarlet Witch whose crown has become fused with her skin.
We caught a glimpse of this twisted Wanda when she killed Professor X, but it seems Sam Raimi once intended to head down an even darker route, turning this hero into a nightmare-inducing creature that had been fully corrupted by the Darkhold's influence. It's cool, but we're eager to see Wanda live to fight another day.
