Just how much time will Marvel's Doctor Strange spend on Strange's training with the Ancient One and the other Masters of the Mystic Arts at Kamar-Taj?

We've seen shots of Strange in alternate dimensions, Kamar-Taj ,NYC and in the  Sanctum Sanctorum in previously released trailers and TV spots but it's hard to get a sense of where the majority of the film takes place.

In an new article with Entertainment Weekly, director Scott Derrickson avoids revealing any spoilers but does say that this won't be the typcial Marvel superhero action movie full of explosions.   "The ambition was to use cutting-edge visual effects to do things that are fresh and new — to not just blow things up... All I will say is that the movie deals heavily with other dimensions."

UPDATE: EW has now officially released their new Doctor Strange images.

It's weird for me to be most interested in the effects. Usually it's the characters that I want to see, but this really does feel like it's going to be sort of mindbending.

Hoping for the best.

@Spock0Clock - Really? I'm the opposite the characters are interesting not the effects. I don't get the hype around the effects it looks like a lot of other effects we've had in movies since the Matrix.

I mean it's just a double split image of New York city I'm pretty sure any novice in special effects can make the same if not better effects than this movie has.
People on YouTube have done the same effects and more.

@Jokester - I'm assuming they haven't shown us all the money shots yet.

Could be wrong, though.

The visual in this film are juts as ambitious if not more, than Inception.

Part of a city folds on itself

Multiple boroughs/and or versions of NYC converge, fold in and flip on another

There's a a scene they showed at SDCC where Strange was above the earth enveloped in the wonders of space and then came back down.

This movie is going to be more trippy and out there than Inception. Inception's visuals were great but very urbane and pedestrian. Very modernist. Bland expanses of glass and steel ironize the deep opacity of civic landscapes.

Also, NOBODY DREAMS THE WAY FOLKS DREAM IN INCEPTION lol

@ComicsBornAndBred - Inception is way overrated and like all Nolan films is riddled with plot holes. Also, the city folding was a one minute scene. The rest of the movie was all guns and floating, hardly imaginative.

As pointed out, Nolan's dreams are boring. Who just dreams about guns and bombs? No flying, powers, or sex? Terrible depiction of a dream state.

The movie was well directed but poorly conceived.

@ComicsBornAndBred

Inception won an oscar for best cinematography. Strange will not.

@Magus

Yep, undermine Nolan a bit more. If he didn't make Inception you wouldn't be getting the insane inspiration from Dr. Strange and probably Batman Begins. Do you really dream about having God like powers while flying and having sex? What a terrible depiction indeed.
