Background: Gilgamesh or The Forgotten One comes from an ancient race of super-beings known as the Eternals who possessed superhuman strength, speed and near immortality. Seeking adventure and often helping mortals during dark times, Gilgamesh was frowned upon and eventually exiled from his home by the Eternals for his “meddling”.

Gilgamesh adventured for millennia, often being mistaken for ancient heroes of lore such as Hercules and Beowulf. Gilgamesh was eventually brought back into the fold when the Eternals needed him to aid them in battle against their sworn enemies, the Deviants (Eternals vol. 1 #13, 1977).

When the Avengers ranks were depleted after staggering events, Gilgamesh joined the team and battled the Growing Man, the U-Foes and the Lava Men, who managed to seriously injure him (Avengers vol. 1 #306- 308, 1989).

Gilgamesh then returned to his home world to recover from the injuries he sustained and occasionally returned to Earth to help thwart cosmic threats. He was recently “killed” by Neut, a teammate to the time-travelling villain Immortus.

Analysis: Gilgamesh didn’t work with the Avengers for any major period of time, but did help to rebuild the team during one of its lowest points. His amazing power levels were a great benefit to the team.

Good work. Did they ever explain how an Eternal died? I own the books wherein he helped rebuild the Avengers. He doesn't bring much to the table as a character. Sadly, they still misused him to boot.

I believe he was simply blasted by one of Kang's minions. It did turn out however, that he wasn't dead after all.
