Batman Reboot Fancast

Batman Reboot Fancast

In anticipation of Christopher Nolan's final Batman film, i decided to cast those who i thought could take over their respective roles when Warner Bros. decides to reboot the Dark Knight franchise! Click the link to see cardiakid's take on the Caped Crusader!

I'll start off by saying that i'm a huge fan of Nolan's Batman films and am really excited to see The Dark Knight Rises. I've actually never got tickets for a movie as early as i did for TDKR.

That being said, apparently Warner Brothers is planning to reboot the Batman franchise once Nolan's tenure is over. Speculation is so that it can fit into a rumoured Justice League universe, but should they actually reboot a franchise that soon after it ends?! (I know they did it with Spider-Man, but seriously?!)

Especially for average movie-goers, will they even realize they're watching a rebooted Batman? Or will they just think it's continuing on after The Dark Knight Rises? (I guess it depends on how the story goes in the film)

Ok, since WB is going to reboot Batman, i figured i'd give my picks for who could give good performances in the roles. I also decided not to re-cast the villains from Nolan's films, (Excepted Two-Face) as i figured the chances they use them in the rebooted series are small.

I also didn't put a story together for the films like i usually do, mainly because i had a lot of trouble coming up with something original. I guess i should get to it though!

Director: David Fincher (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Se7en, Social Network, Fight Club)

Fincher is a GREAT director, and has created some Great films that all have dark tones. He is hands down the best choice to replace Nolan, if they decide to do a Dark Batman, like Nolan's films.

Writer: John Logan (Gladiator, The Aviator, Sweeney Todd, Hugo)

Logan has written some great films, and adapted alot of them too. Both those reasons helped me pick him as the man i'd want penning a rebooted Batman franchise.

Onto the fancast...!

Joel Edgerton as Bruce Wayne aka Batman

Edgerton has proven himself to be a very great actor, with his great performance in Warrior, and i think he'd be great to replace Christian Bale and step into the role.

John Hurt as Alfred Pennyworth

Unfortunately, someone will have to replace Michael Caine in the role, and when that happens, i can't think of anyone better than John Hurt.

Jeff Bridges as Commisioner Gordon - (Credit to @SuperDude001)

I have give credit to CBM user @SuperDude001 for this choice. Bridges is an Academy Award winning actor, and could bring a great performance to the film is he were actually playing the part. (I do think Cranston is a good choice for the role, but i decided not to use him as the choice is extremely over used)

Thomas Gibson and Meredith Monroe as Thomas and Martha Wayne

Gibson and Monroe already played husband and wife in Criminal Minds and they would be just as good as Bruce's deceased parents, in my opinion.

Autumn Reeser as Vicki Vale

Seeing as Vale didn't appear in any of Nolan's films, she'll probably appear in a reboot, and Reeser not only looks the part, but she is a pretty decent actress!

Danny Glover as Lucius Fox

This was a pretty tough choice. Who could replace the man who played God himself? Well, i ended up deciding Danny Glover would be great as Bruce's technology supplier.

Mackenzie Crook as Joe Chill

Crook has the creepy look nailed, and was probably the easiest choice in the entire cast for me.

Rose McGowan as Pamela Isley aka Poison Ivy

Although McGowan may be a little old for the role now, (especially if they decide to do a younger Batman) she is still a pretty good actress and could do good in the role!

Liev Schreiber as Harvey Dent

Although not all that original, Schreiber resembles Dent in a way, and would definitely give Aaron Eckhart a run for his money for the best Dent performance.

Mark Strong as Roman Sionis aka Black Mask

I realize Strong is already playing a villain in a DC Film, and if that Green Lantern is used as part of a DCU, then he couldn't play Black Mask, but there's no denying that he's GREAT at playing villains, (Kick Ass, Green Lantern and much more) and would definitely own as Black Mask.

Mickey Rourke as Basil Karlo aka Clayface

I really tried to stay away from this choice, seeing as it is pretty unoriginal. But when it came down to it, there's really no one better for the Basil Karlo version of Clayface, (washed up actor) and i thought Rourke could kind of relate to the role, seeing as it wasn't to long ago when he was having struggles, before he had his big comeback role in The Wrestler.

Stanley Tucci as Victor Fries aka Mister Freeze

Tucci has a wide diversity when it comes to acting, and he has already shown he can play villain roles in The Lovely Bones (For which he was Oscar nominated) and he would be great in this role. Plus, anything would be better than Arnold. (Facepalm)

Jude Law as Edward Nygma aka The Riddler

I tried to find a lesser known actor for the role, but Law is so great for it in so many ways i just kept coming back to the choice. Eventually i decided I'd just keep it once and for all.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin

I was going to change this choice, as i thought i had a little bit too much of big names alreaedy, but i then decided; it's a fancast, who really cares? Well, ok, other than that, Hoffman, a tremendously great actor, who i'd love to see take on a comic book movie role.

Christoph Waltz as Hugo Strange

Academy Award Winner Christoph Waltz had his breakthrough role as a villain in Inglourious Basterds and seeing as Strange has had a spike in popularity recently mostly due to the Arkham City games, and he has yet to be in a Batman film, i'm assuming there's a good chance he'll be in a Batman reboot, and who better to play him than Christoph Waltz?

Aaron Paul as Floyd Lawton aka Deadshot

Paul, mostly known for his role in the hit series Breaking Bad could be great in the role of Deadshot.

Sweet cast, dude!! We have the same picks for Alfred and Dent. I'm working on a Batman cast as well. It'll feature two picks for Batman, one younger and one older (Alex O'Loughin for younger, Jim Caviezel for older). It'll probably be up this Saturday. Anyway, I hope to see more from you. And I'll have a Dark Avengers cast up later tonight. And I also want to know, who's your pick for Catwoman (I prefer Eliza Dushku or Lena Headey for the role).

And can you check out my cast for Guardians of the Galaxy?

@PowerProphet - Thanks! I'll make sure to check out your fancast if i see it!

@brokentoejoe - Thanks man!

@MrBlueSky - Thanks! Alex O'Loughlin actually crossed my mind some time when i was making this. (I've been working on it FOREVER) Yeah, i haven't posted much lately because i've been busy, plus i was at a dead end with writing a fanfic trilogy with this (Like i did with Spider-Man and Green Lantern) so i just decided to post it as a fancast without a story. I'll check out your Dark Avengers fancast! For Catwoman, i'm not sure exactly, i think Anne Hathaway will do good in TDKR, i'd have to think about it, but i think your choice of Lena Headey is really good.

Pretty cool cast, I'v never seen your Batman pick act so I can't really comment on that choice, but I like the rest, Alfred's pick is the best.

I like Edgerton. He is a real up and coming talent. Nice original pick for Batman.

That's a solid cast, man.

Joel Edgarton has been my pick for Batman ever since I watched him in warrior.

John Hurt is a very good pick for Alfred

Bridges for Gordon is awesome.

Autumn Reeser could do Vicki Vale excellently!

Glover does look just like Fox... so yeah.

Crook does send a "Chill down my spine... if you know what I mean... great choice.

Rose McGowan I'm not too sure about. She too short for the role. And too weird. But that could just be me. How about Rachel Lefevrey?

Can't really fee; Scheiber as Two-face for some reason. He could work very well... but I just can't see it yet.

Mark Strong has way too many roles, man. Cast someone else, please!!!

Rourke as Clayface is nice.

All the other villains are great too... Hoffman has been my pick for Penguin since MI3!

I see another MI alum Jean Reno as Dr. Hugo Strange.

Also, won't Aaron Paul look a bit less intimidating, physique-wise, at least?

Overall, Great cast!

Reeser and Crook for Vale and Chill are both amazing picks! Bridges would knock Gordon out of the park! Paul and Law seem right for their parts as well! Schreiber as Two-Face doesn't click with me... everything else is alright!

Great Cast!
I would add the following:
-Tom Hardy as Harvey Bullock
-Matthew Fox as Hush

@SAT - Thanks!

@LoudNoises - Thanks!

@aNarcHy2day - Thanks! Yeah, i know he's fancast in a lot of roles, but i haven't seen him as Black Mask that much. I realized Aaron Paul isn't that intimidating physique wise, but he could beef up for the part (Like Tom Hardy did for Bane)

@Kakarot - Thanks!

@TheLoveDoc - Thanks man! I wouldn't put Hardy as Bullock, mainly because he's already in Nolan's trilogy, and i think there are better CBM roles for him if he ever does one again. Fox for Hush is nice, though. I was going to put Hush in my cast, but couldn't come up with an original pick. (I had Eric Bana)

Pretty nice casting!

Joel Edgerton is a brilliant actor but
at 5'11" I personally think he's too short
for BATMAN.
But I want to see a taller BATMAN & SUPERMAN.
6'2" to 6'3" BATMAN and 6'4" to 6'5" SUPERMAN.
Oh, well!

Your HARVEY DENT is 6'3" and your BRUCE WAYNE
is 5'11".

All in all this is a very cool casting!
cardiakid
cardiakid - 7/16/2012, 4:36 PM
@DDD - Thanks! But i have to be honest, unless it's a character like Wolverine, who is really small, or a really tall character, i usually don't look into height. I mean, would you rather have a bad actor who is the height of the character or a great actor who is a few inches off? I see where you're coming from though!!
DDD
DDD - 7/17/2012, 2:14 AM
Not trying to be an asshole just a bit nitpicky!
lol

I have cast 5'11 1/2" MATTHEW BOMER as BATMAN
but that was to go with the shorter HENRY CAVILL
in a JLA CAST.

But JOEL EDGERTON is no slouch in the acting
department so I'm positive he could pull it off!

He would be more like the regular BATMAN, more in
charge than NOLAN'S DARK KNIGHT, with human
weaknesses!

I want to see the super-detective BATMAN again
and JOEL EDGERTON would nail that role to the wall!
KEATON was shorter but he nailed the REAL BATMAN'S
personality down! So would EDGERTON!

But in all actuality I think this is a baddass and cool casting!

And FINCHER would knock this outta the park!
DDD
DDD - 7/17/2012, 2:21 AM
I want to see a BATMAN in the reboot that is
like KEATON'S in the BRUCE WAYNE/BATMAN persona
department but with the more realism of NOLAN'S
DARK KNIGHT.

That is the "REAL" BATMAN, the feel that MICHAEL
KEATON gave off.

I know that DAVID FINCH could mix those two together
and come up with a BATMAN that fits the mainstream
comic books!
I know he can do it and like KEATON, EDGERTON
would capture "THAT" BATMAN-LIGHTNING in a bottle!
DDD
DDD - 7/17/2012, 2:27 AM
But I still ideally want to see a taller BATMAN,
not SUPERMAN tall but 6'2 to 6'3".
Ya know LIEV SCHREIBER is just about the right
height for my preference and he actually would
make a pretty good BATMAN!
lol
aNarcHy2day
aNarcHy2day - 7/17/2012, 5:33 AM
Well, just comparing, DDD,Edgarton would do a great job for the present 6'2" Superman, wouldn't he? I mean I'm not too concerned with 5'11" or 6'0" or 6'1". They're pretty close by and don't really matter on screen. Though someone like Shazam needs to be genuinely big, I think! Yes, Schreiber would be tremendous as Batman, no doubting that either.
cardiakid
cardiakid - 7/17/2012, 4:11 PM
@DDD – I agree with you, Schreiber would be a good Batman. I actually almost cast him in the role in this before I thought of Edgerton. Plus, I wasn’t too sure about how the CBM community would like it, I thought there would be more bad than good reviews of the pick. Oh well, in my opinion, I don’t even know why Warner Brothers wants to reboot it so soon after Chris Nolan’s trilogy finishes. Well, ok, obviously it’s for money and to fit into a DC Universe, but, I think they should just give the Batman movies a break for a while and wait until it’s fresh.

@DaRaginScotsman - Sweet! I actually got the Bridges pick from @SuperDude001. I can't lie, Bridges would do great in the role!

@DravinClaw - Hmm...i'm not sure about that. Stewart playing a villain is hard for me to imagine.
