There is no script yet but it should turn out like its Year One in comic book form we all really hope, this is the quick plot and storyline to the series.
“Green Arrow: Year One” tells the origin of Oliver Queen, the spoiled millionaire who became a superhero of social conscience, who would defend his home of Star City as the modern-day Robin Hood known as Green Arrow. As fans of the character know, Queen became a master archer when he was forced to hunt for food to survive after falling off his yacht and becoming stranded on a deserted island. He later discovers there were smugglers on the island, and after defeating them, he returned to the mainland where he became a superhero.
“Year One” expands on that story, turning it into an action movie involving not only the smugglers but innocent hostages and personal betrayals that make Ollie’s involvement in this story a little less accidental and gives his involvement a little more personal drive.
The story remains true to its roots while avoiding being a simple retelling.
“Green Arrow: Year One” is a fantastic story, seeing a modern take on a comic book character without worrying about the decades of history they may have. Yes it would work very well in movie form and easily translate to the big screen!
Right on to the casting, as i picked Jon Hamm for Green Arrow in Super Max i have picked another actor for the role of the green archer in Year One for this one, i give you...
Josh Holloway as Oliver Queen (Green Arrow)
Dressed like Robin Hood and taking on crime, Green Arrow is an archer, who invents trick arrows with various special functions, such as a glue arrow, a net arrow, explosive arrow, time bomb arrow, grappling arrow, fire extinguishing arrow, flash arrow, tear gas arrow, cryonic arrow, a boxing-glove arrow, and even a kryptonite arrow.
Well what can i say, Josh Holloway is a favorite and i reckon he could easily lose his southern accent as he's a actor an all and be the perfect Green Arrow for Year One. Anyone who has ever watch Lost would know what a top quality actor he really is, that's why he's picked for this movie version of Green Arrow!
Audra McDonald as China White
China White was the leader of a drug cartel that dominated the South Pacific. She supplied heroin imports for the West Coast United States, Australia, Japan and the entire Pacific rim. Her base of operations was a volcanic island in Fiji. Many years ago, millionaire playboy Oliver Queen found himself manipulated into financing several of China White's operations, though he was unaware that he was secretly investing in a drug cartel. When Ollie's presence threatened to expose China White, she ordered the mercenary henchman Hackett to kill him. Hackett beat Oliver up, and tossed him over the side of his boat, the Pacific Queen. Ollie survived however and managed to make his way to the island. He discovered China White's poppy fields and learned that she had been using local villagers as slave labor to sow the fields. When she discovered that Hackette had failed to kill Oliver Queen, she ordered him to finish the job or else he would spend his last days being slowly eaten away in a rat-infested cage.
I've picked McDonald as she has that strong leadership presence about her and could easily play the role of China White! As for her acting, check out Private Practice, very good actress.
Jude Law as Hackett
A former pilot for the Royal Air Force, Hackett eventually came into the employ of a heroin manufacturer named China White. China conducted her business from an island volcano in Fiji, and communicated her orders to Hackett from there. Over a decade ago, Hackett insinuated his way into the lifestyle of millionaire playboy Oliver Queen. He convinced Queen to invest in several illegal offshore accounts, though Queen was unaware that the money was being used for drug trafficking. Hackett arranged to meet with China White, but Oliver insisted on coming along and they both embarked upon the Pacific Queen. Queen's presence threatened to expose China White's operations, and she ordered Hackett to kill him. As he considered himself Oliver's friend, Hackett couldn't bring himself to murder him in cold blood, so he tossed him over the side of the ship instead. Ollie survived however, and encountered Hackett again on Fiji where he learned that he was actually working for China White. The two fought one another, but Ollie managed to get away. When Hackett reported back to China White, she was furious at him for not shooting him in the head as originally instructed.
Well not only does he look a spitting image of him but Law is a great British actor and would bring such class to the needed character, just check out his movies like Road To Perdition to see how Jude takes a role and owns it.
Nicky Whelan as Black Canary
Daughter of JSA Crime fighter original Black Canary Dinah Drake Lance.
Following the retroactive continuity change in 1983, Black Canary became two distinct characters, mother and daughter, named Dinah Drake Lance and Dinah Laurel Lance. Dinah Lance would become the current Black Canary. Some references, notably those in James Robinson's Starman series, would attempt to distinguish the two Canaries further by referring to the first as 'Diana', but more recent accounts have confirmed 'Dinah' as the elder Canary's given name.
Black Canary possesses a "Canary Cry" – a high-pitched, sonic scream which she can deploy to shatter objects and incapacitate her opponents. Analyzing her capabilities, Doctor Mid-Nite found that she can reach ultrasonic frequencies outside the audible spectrum which render human beings unconscious. However, the cry has been shown to be completely useless when Dinah's mouth is covered with a gag, piece of tape, or any other means of forcing her mouth closed, but still she's a good fighter!
Nicky Whelan is perfect for the role of Black Canary, plus ive seen her in action, she can fight and act!
As this is a Year One story there is really no other main stars so i thought id put some more Nicky Whelan Black Canary pictures up for you guys, yeah ain't i sweet lol!
