My "Land of the Giants" Fan-cast remake

My "Land of the Giants" Fan-cast remake

I've always liked the old sci-fi series, and i think that "Land of The Giants" is one of the coolest. So i was thinking how a remake could work. And here is my idea.

Premise: In a not-so-distant future, sub-orbital space flights had become the most common way to travel. The Low capacity spaceship SOS-Spindrift is en route from Los Angeles to London when, beyond Earth's boundary with space, encounters a strange space phenomenon, that forces the Spindrift to make an Emergency landing.
Now transported to a mysterious planet where everything, even the inhabitants, is twelve times larger than its counterpart on Earth, the crew
and passangers of the Spindrift, have to s urvive and find a way to repair the spaceship to return home. Everything, while, hunted by The Giants.

I think the coolest story to tell, is a mix between the plot of tree episodes of the original series: The Crash - The Weird World - Target: Earth
From The Crash, we'll have all the background of the history and the initial shock of the crew finding that they're lost in a different planet. From The Weird Wolrd and Target:Earth, we'll have the surprise of finding that they're not the firsts to crash in that planet, how they deal with a crazed astronaut human survivor, and the hope in the possibility of returning home, represented by a mix betwen the plot of the astronaut's spaceship captured by a giant research center, and the giant scientist, working on a guidance system that could get a spacecraft to Earth (in this case the guidance system is based on the tecnology of the astronaut's spaceship).

- Cast

Michael Fassbender - Capt. Steve Burton

Steve Burton is a pilot for a charter airline that runs sub-orbital flights. He was an honors graduate from the academy, and quickly rises in the company's ranks to the rank of captain. Burton shows a strong sense of leadership, loyalty, responsability and is a very inteligent and rational man, that takes for himself the responsability of protecting the lifes of the others.
Fassbender is a great actor and i think he can play the lidership role very well, because he have this strong posture needed
for a captain. Besides, he is very charismatic, a quality needed in a protagonist.

Ewan McGregor - Mark Wilson

Mark Wilson is an engineering genius and a Multi-Millionarie businessman, owning 17 different companies. His ideas would often result in conflict with Burton and the two would sometimes come into blows with each other, in other hand they share a mutual respect that eventually becomes a frienship.
McGregor is another cool actor, and i think he can bring alot to this role. He has this smart-cult guy look, and already has experience on sci-fi/fantastic productions (Star Wars). Could be very interesting seeing he and Fassbender bumping heads for the leadership on a weird planet.

Chiwetel Ejiofor - Dan Erickson

Dan Erickson was one of America's best decathaletes, Unfortunately, while competing he suffered a broken leg and as a result he had to have a pin inserted in his leg to set it. Enrolled into an academy for flight training, he becomes Steve's best friend a his co-pilot. He is fiercely loyal to Steve, very brave and a good friend.
Chiwetel Ejiofor. Number one: Great actor. Number two: charisma. Number three: Fits like a glove in Dan role.

Candice Accola - Betty Hamilton

A rookie stewardess Betty Hamilton is pretty much cool under pressure and is not the typical damsel in distress. She is the female counterpart to Steve and Dan due to her training, can act as nurse when is needed and is a grounding influence on the rest of the party.
Candice Accola is more know by her role in The Vampire Diaries, in which she does a good job. She's very Beautiful, young and had played alot of supporting roles on television. I think is a fresh, fit choice for the role.

Emily Blunt - Valerie Scott

Valerie Scott is a jet set heiress in the classic sense. She does things for the sheer enjoyment of it all. She even welcomes the attention of the paparazzi all over the world at every turn. Has a big sense of curiosity, displays a feisty attitude when cornered, and can be a bit selfish sometimes.
Without doubt, Emily can play the sexy-type-character, selfish and fun, at the same time of beeing the typical damsel in distress. I think it's a perfect match for the role of Valerie.

Chandler Canterbury - Barry Lockridge

Barry Lockridge is a young orphan boy son of a Marine Lieutenant Colonel, with a big heart, and touching innocence. He have a pet dog called Chipper. Develops a strong friendship with Fitzhugh.
Chandler Canterbury is one of the most Promising child Actors out there. He will be a great choice for the role of an innocent, good-hearted orphan boy.

Oliver Platt - Alexander B. Fitzhugh

Alexander Fitzhugh was a noted con artist who at various times has posed as a geologist, psycholgist and other various disguises. When he stole over $1 million in cash. He decided to go on the lam disguised as a naval commander who was on a special mission as a courrier.
He can be a coniving coward who would do anything to make an advantage for himself. However he developes an almost fatherly affection for Barry.
Oliver Platt borned to play this role. He fisically resemble the character, and can play this funny, selfish, coward, yet good-hearted type of character.

Marton Csokas - Major Kagen
Major Kegan, is a crazed human astronaut who crash landed on the planet. His crew, have died under mysterious circunstances, in an attempt to retrieve the spaceship captured by the giants. He is paranoid, and his experiences on the planet had teached him some valuable information about the giants.

David Thewlis - Dr. Franzen
Dr. Franzen is a giant scientist who is working on a guidance system that could get a spacecraft to Earth. Unfortunately, his project is flawed and has failed a critical test. Now he is under pressure by his superiors and have to complete his work or the project will be canceled.

Carrie-Anne Moss - Altha Franzen
Altha Franzen is the wife and assistent of Dr. Franzen. She's very protective about her husband work, and will do anything to make sure that he receives all the prizes for the success of the project.

Alfred Molina - Logar
Logar is the superior of Dr. Franzen, and the chief of the giant space program. He is very ambitious and dishonest. If Franzen failed in his project again, Logar will assure that the cientist never work in any project again.

I haven't heard of this series, but nice cast!

BTW, a lot of people will give you shot for casting Michael Fassbender. That's because a lot of people are opposed to casting Fassbender in any cast of any sort. But I think he can nail Captain Burton.

Wow, now this is a first. Did Land of the Giants have a tie-in comic or something?

When you have a minute, check out my latest fancast: "Danger Girl: The Animated Movie" Reprise.

@FlixMentallo21 If i'm not wrong, there's some books and comics that kind reboot the history, including new characters, an changing some aspects of the timeline.

True, BUT upon a quick Google search, it turns out Gold Key did a tie-in comic book back when the show was on. It was first published in 1968. It lasted only five issues, and was collected into a hardback collection by Hermes Press.

Pretty nice little LAND OF THE GIANTS Casting!

The actors are very, very well chosen!

I'd watch this!

I'd like to see a new TV series!

BTW, CBM.COM also covers sci-fi and horror so a fancast doesn't
have to be TOTALLY comics-based.
