My Opinion On Marvels Direction With Spider-Man

My Two Cents On Where Marvel Has Been Taking Spider-Man

With the announcment today that marvel and dan slott will be taking spider-man into a much darker direction ive decided to write about my problems with marvel and there direction with spider-man over the last few years

Ever since marvel decided to retcon peter parkers marriage to mary jane in the worst spider-man story ever told one more day the amazing spider-man has been a very average to mediocre title. After one more day marvel decided to have a rotating number of writers and artists and made the amazing spider-man a 3 times a month book and bring it back to the 70's status quo marvel seems to love effectivly destorying all character growth for peter parker since the late 80's. Alot of the stories where either hit or miss mostly miss. After a few years marvel decide to make the amazing spider-man a bi-weekly title and give the full writing duties to dan slott starting with the story arc big time.

When dan slott started the big time story arc the amazing spider-man looked to be on the rise again after years of mediocrity however after a few issues it started to go downhill really fast with poor motivations and bad charactersations for example: phil urich aka the new hobgoblin his motivations for being the hobgoblin is that he wants to impress norah winters. Really? because im not sure killing people in brutal and horrible ways will impress a girl unless she's absolutely psychotic. But the biggest insult of slotts run is peter parker/spider-man himself. Dan slott does not get the character at all he writes him like an incompetent idiot who reacts on impulse and doesnt think case in point ends of the earth and no turning back.

With the annoucment today that after amazing spider-man #700 is cancelled and when the superior spider-man is released spider-man will undergo a massive tone and character shift from light-hearted to darkness which is making me seriously consider to not even bother picking up the main spider-man title. Ive come to the conclusion that marvel do not know what to do with spider-man. i am i massive spider-man fan and i dont want spider-man to be a dark character this happend before in the 90's just before the terrible clone saga. With ultimate spider-man being leaps and bounds above amazing spider-man in the last few years i think marvel needs to really get there priorities in order in terms of getting the amazing spider-man back to quality. I think marvel should give the writing chores to jonathan hickman who i think has a fantastic voice for the character having previously wrote him in ff.

I know this is a long article but i had to get my point across. Let me know what you guys think

I refuse to read another Spidey comic till they retcon OMD. Till then, I'll stick to rereading my old Spidey comics with the decades of continuity and character development intact.

I don't really understand the Dan Slott hate. I've really, REALLY, enjoyed his run. Hobgoblin has been a really fun villain, Spider Island was a great story, I thought him getting a grown up job was real evolution for the character.

Superior Spiderman will be a new facelift, just like all the other dozens of facelifts he's gotten over the years. If its good, it'll stick. If its not, it won't. Just try and enjoy it, and maybe read #700 before you judge?

I'm really excited for Marvel Now and the new books/creative teams. And comments on this site realllly bring me down, cus pretty much every comment is knee-jerk negative.

I wish there was a place on this site for people who, you know, actually LIKE reading Marvel stuff instead of crapping on it.

And I'm actually really loving marvel at the moment I'm actually picking up all of the marvel now titles that remender Hickman waid Aaron fraction bendis and Gillen are writing I just don't like what they are doing to spider-man

It laughable and pathetic to see how ignorant a vast majority of the people on this site are. So quick we are to judge when we know absolutely few details about a majority of the Marvel Now! books. It makes me wonder if people are satisfied with the characters they love being in a state of perpetual continuance. Superior Spider-man is nothing more than character development for Peter Parker. And to top it all off; thus making this article invalid, lmao, Dan Slot announced today at NYCC that the Spider-man in Superior Spider-man is NOT Peter Parker. And that Mary Jane will become romantically involved with who is under the mask. If only people actually read the comic books instead of basing their opinions on the blind.
Heres the link from Dan Slott: http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/10/11/dan-slott-talks-superior-spider-man-at-nycc/

The people on this site would rather have the same old stories with the same old villains. Instead of something new and fresh. Why don;t you people go cry about him not being married to MJ and that Cyclops should be the boyscott baby instead of growing into the leader of the mutant race that he was destined to be. Or that Captain America should be crying over Bucky's death; that Tony Stark is a alcoholic; that Magneto should be a bad guy!

@iglesiadecomics you've literally took the words out my mouth. I am on the exact same page as you when they broke the marriage up instead of his character development going forward it went backwards to the 70's/early80's status quo
