Nolan Master Of Illusions: Is Bane Really In TDKR?

Is Tom Hardy really Hugo Strange?

When it was announced some months ago that Tom Hardy would be Bane it came as a truly unexpected surprise. After rumors and speculation of every other villain in The Dark Knight's rouge gallery, Bane would be the "official" villain that WB and Chris Nolan would confirm. However, something just hit me after putting a few more pieces of a possibly unnoticed puzzle together.

Besides the obvious stuff like Tom Hardy's size and ethnicity, what also hit me were the extreme measures that Nolan and WB have taken to make sure that the script for the film is not seen. Then came the report regarding the plot for TDKR that involves the villain that everybody already had Tom Hardy signed up for, Hugo Strange. So could Tom actually be playing Dr. Hugo Strange? A part of me thinks so, and I'm pretty sure that moviegoers won't know what's going on until sometime this summer or when the movie releases.

Now while I don't know this for sure, all the signs do somewhat point in that direction. Hardy definitely looks like Strange and Nolan did say once he would not use Bane. Then you have Gary Oldman's comments regarding an "old" villain being featured in the film. I think that Nolan, in an attempt to keep the element of surprise, is giving all of us a bunch of false info. Just a quick thought I wanted to share, I guess we will all find out July 2012.

I think he's Bane. Hardy said he's Bane. He said he's hitting the gym. I don't remember Nolan ever saying he wouldn't use Bane. He said he never use Freeze.

Yeah I doubt he is. That wouldn't fit, especially from the supposed plot of TDKR we got a while ago saying Bane would lead the League.

The old villain is probably Catwoman, she did appear in Batman #1 after all. Hardy is Bane. Bane isn't the mindless thug half the people think he is thanks to Batman & Robin.

when is the last time a movie studio released official confirmations about a project and it turned out to be false? never. It would hurt the believability of the studio. They wouldn't do that. This wasn't some rumor, it was an official confirmation. Once a studio does that, you can take it to the bank.

This is basically you're gut feeling with no proof. bno offense, but i'll take a studios official announcement over that any day.

He's Bane. if Hugo Strange is in there, Hardy's not playing him.

I remember Joker saying hes not a planner but like a dog chasing cars, and yet his character seemed very similar to the Riddler especially how he played Harvey. I'm guessing it will be the same case for Bane, and his character will seem similar to Strange which is cool.

I was thinking that there's a small possibility that Bane and Hugo Strange would be the same person, but that's unlikely.

BTW I've read plenty of comics with Bane. Vengeance of Bane is still one of my fav comics. IF you need some help let me just say. No one knows what Banes purpose is in the film or his affiliation with the league. Nolan hasn't stated how he will introduce the character or Venom. So this film could go many different ways. Im not saying Banes gonna be a [frick]ing DR, but a genius,,which he clearly is, will prob be a definite.

this theory is TOO far reaching for personal wish fulfillment. sorry, but Hardy is Bane, Anne is Selina...

i, however, can totally see the (long-time rumored) Robin Williams to FINALLY tackle a batman villain role, in the form of HUGO STRANGE. but, if the plot makes Strange wanting to take over batman's role, then Robin would look ridiculous in the role.

hmmm...how about Nicolas Cage, a self-proclaimed comic book nut movie star?? he'd be a cool casting choice for the role.

yeah I gotta say, like EarOne said, this article is based purely on wish fulfillment, the rest is you connecting the dots when they've already been done for you.
1) I doubt very much that, not only Chris Nolan, but WB, a very respectable movie studio, would LIE to fans.
2)Tom's been working out for a very long time now, and since it's Nolan it's highly unlikely that Bane will use Venom and become the hulking monster he is in the comics, he'll just be incredibly ripped, which Tom wasn't far off before working out. As for ethnicity, Hardy has played different ethnicities before, he's wearing a mask, as long as he can do the accent, ethnicity doesnt matter. And Nolan might not even keep Bane's ethnicity, it might change.
3) Nolan ALWAYS takes extreme measures to make sure his scripts arent seen, but when he announced Heath as Joker and Aaron as Harvey back in 2007, he didnt do it to protect his script, he did it because he was announcing their roles.
4) It was never official that Tom signed up to play Hugo, it was all rumors, and sites like IGN would post rumors incase there is any truth in them.
5) "Hardy definitely looks like Strange". Bane wears a mask.
6) Catwoman appeared in Batman #1 (1940) so that would be the old villain Oldman was referring to.
