Director: Gore Verbenski
Gore brought a really good blend of action and fun to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. I think that’s what a film like this needs and he would fit well into this. Alternative: Andrew Stanton.
Plot Outline:
•10, 000 years ago: Zordon, Ambassador of Eltar, comes to Earth to destroy a monster called The Obelisk
•Accompanying him are Alpha Five, five Eltarian Rangers, Governess Rita Repulsa, and her escort Goldar
•The governess and her bodyguard sabotage the voyage with alien, mud monsters
•Goldar is locked in one of the ship’s life support pods and Rita is imprisoned by Zordon in an advanced prison cube, which is launched out of the ship and lands on the moon
•The ship crash-lands on Earth, killing the Rangers and mortally wounding Zordon
•Alpha quickly teleports himself and Zordon out before full impact
•Flash forward to the present
•Jason Scott and Billy Cranston present their research that shows strange cave paintings of dinosaurs in the early time of man, which should be impossible
•Funding for further research is denied by their university (Angel Grove)
•A man at the presentation, Arthur Fine, shows interest and agrees to fund an expedition
•The three of them fly to Egypt where they meet the rest of their team: Kimberly Hart, Zach Taylor, Trini Kwan, Farkas "Bulk" Bulkmeier, and Eugene "Skull" Skullovitch
•Entering ancient ruins (which turn out to be the crashed ship) the team find five large “statues” resembling a Tyrannosaurus, a Triceratops, a Pterodactyl, a Mastodon, and a Saber-Tooth Tiger
•Jason ventures away from the group
•Arthur shows that the large animals are not statues, opening one of them to reveal them as vehicles of some sort
•Jason cuts himself on a sharp edge of the control panel of a life support pod
•This unlocks the pod and the blood hitting the floor moistens the dirt
•The dirt begins to shift and will eventually transform into the mud creatures
•As Jason reunites with the group, they are attacked by the creatures
•Arthur flees as the other try to fight off the creatures
•Arthur comes back with a case which he opens and hands out devices from inside
•One device is left behind
•Showing the team how to open and operate the machines, they all escape inside of the animalistic vehicles
•Goldar emerges from his pod and recollects the mud creatures into a jar
•Using one of the ships functioning computers, he locates the position of Rita, discovering that she is imprisoned on the moon
•After discovering the remaining device he flies a turtle-like ship out of the ruins and into space
•Arthur takes the team to what he calls “the fortress” and reveals to them that he is actually the android Alpha Five
•The team is introduced to Zordon, who is now sealed in a life-preserving tube
•Zordon explains everything to them and asks them to help in the final destruction of The Obelisk
•The Rangers are shown how to use their devices, Nano-Morphers, and are one their way
•Goldar lands on the moon and frees Rita
•Returning to the ruins, the team retrieves Bulk and Skull and goes off in search of the sleeping Obelisk
•Rita and Goldar return to Earth and attack the new Rangers with the mud creature
•The Rangers activate their Nano-Morphers and become fully armored to fight the creatures and Godar
•Rita searches the ruins (different ruins) in which they fight to find the key to freeing The Obelisk
•Rita gets what she came for and puts a quick stop to the fighting, teleporting out with the key
•Rita sends out her creatures to attack the city of Tokyo, distracting the Rangers while she opens the prison of The Obelisk
•After destroying the mud creatures and defeating Goldar (who is wounded and must retreat), the Rangers go off to stop Rita
•Coming to The Obelisk’s prison too late, the monster is freed by Rita
•The Rangers must then use the Monoliths (the animalist machines) to fight the gigantic monster
•Finding the monster too strong, the Rangers bring the Monoliths together to form the Megalith
•After a grueling battle between the Megalith and The Obelisk, the Rangers track down Rita and also defeat her
•Rita is imprisoned inside the cube once again
•Credits roll
•Goldar comes out of healing a meditation and takes the sixth Nano-Morpher in his hand
Characters:
Jason Scott- Jason is a handsome, suave, Indiana Jones-like professor. He teaches Anthropology at Angel Grove University. He is shown to be athletic, intelligent, and kind. Though he isn’t the most combat-oriented, his character places him in a leadership role for the new Rangers.
Casting: Henry Cavill
Billy Cranston- Billy is more of the geeky, lanky type. He is Jason’s best friend and he works with him at Angel Grove teaching Zoology.
Casting: Andrew Garfield
Kimberly Hart- Kimberly is an ambitious journalist who takes the job reporting on Jason and Billy’s work. She is also an old flame of Jason’s from their youth, but as time goes on their relationship becomes more and more strictly platonic.
Casting: Amber Heard
Zack Taylor- Zack is a soldier in the United States Army. It is only through Arthur Fine’s government connections that he is allowed to join Jason and Billy’s expedition.
Casting: Lee Thompson Young
Trini Kwan- Trini is also a soldier in the United States Army who is assigned with Zack, Bulk, and Skull to go on the expedition.
Casting: Jun Ji-hyun
Bulk and Skull- These two are the comic relief of the film. They are two soldiers in the United States Army that were hired along with Zack and Trini. Their incompetence allows them to serve only as truck drivers for the expedition team.
Casting: Tyler Labine and Jay Baruchel
Alpha Five (Arthur Fine)- Searching for many year to relocate the abandoned ship wreckage, Alpha disguises himself as Arthur Fine when Jason and Billy’s research presents an opportunity to find what has been lost.
Casting: Paul Bettany
Zordon- Zordon is an ambassador of the planet Eltar. One of his trips to Earth in his own days as an Eltarian Ranger faced him with The Obelisk. Having imprisoned the monster, Zordon returns to Earth to destroy it. Suffering mortal wounds before escaping the ship’s wreck, Zordon was confined to a life support vessel, resembling him to a gigantic head in a tube.
Casting: Laurence Fishburne
Rita Repulsa- Rita is a governess of the Eltarian Council. Her own agenda is to overthrow the Eltarian democracy and reestablish government as an empire. To do this she accompanies Zordon to Earth, hoping to bring back The Obelisk as her grand destructor.
Casting: Helena Bonham Carter
Goldar- Goldar is Rita’s bodyguard. He accompanies her to Earth and he is the keeper of the mud creatures that Rita uses as her enforcers.
Casting: Kevin Grevioux
*This is more along the lines of how Goldar would appear.
Other:
Nano-Morphers/Suits- The Eltarian Ranger is issued a black, full-body suit. This suit contains a port on the waist where the Nano-Morpher can be installed. Once installed the suit begins pumping energy into the Ranger. Once the Nano-Morpher is actually activated it releases millions of nanobots which cover the Ranger’s body and lock together to form a thin, but strong armor and helmet.
Monoliths/Megalith- These are the Zords and the Megazord. Essentially, this concept works the same way as it always has, but the design will be more contemporary.
Mud Creatures- These represent the Putties. The idea remains intact, but they will be something more animalistic, somewhat resembling Xenomorphs (Aliens).
The Obelisk- This is a gigantic monster resembling a gargoyle. It was imprisoned by Zordon long ago, but Rita releases its hell back on Earth.
