It’s hard to find anyone that can debate as eloquently and passionately as a comic book fan. Here we have the perfect forum for just such a deliberation. Now's the time to put that otherwise useless wealth of knowledge to work! Our fourth match-up:
Powers and Abilities:
Silver Surfer (Norrin Radd) He wields the Power Cosmic, granting him superhuman strength, stamina, durability, and the ability to absorb and manipulate the universe's ambient energy for a variety of effects. The Surfer can navigate through interstellar space, dimensional barriers, and hyperspace, which he can enter to exceed the speed of light when flying on his board, and has even proven capable of time travel on several occasions.
He sustains himself by converting matter into energy; does not require food, water, air, or sleep; and can survive within nearly any known natural environment, including deep space, hyperspace, and even within black holes and stars. He can analyze and manipulate matter and energy, and molecularly restructure or animate matter at will, even transmuting elements or creating objects. He can also project energy in various forms for offensive and defensive use, including the erection of force shields, and bolts of cosmic force powerful enough to destroy entire planets and planetoids. He can utilize the Power Cosmic to augment his superhuman strength to indeterminate levels. He can heal living organisms, though he cannot raise the dead, and he has proven capable of revitalizing and evolving organic life on a planet-wide scale. He can alter the size of himself or of other matter, cast illusions, and phase through solid matter.
His senses enable him to detect objects and concentrations of energy light years away and to perceive matter and energy in subatomic detail, including life energies of living beings. He can even see through time, and with concentration he can achieve limited perception of past and future events in his general vicinity. He has demonstrated telepathic ability, including mind-reading on occasion, and has proven to be able to influence human emotion and sensation.
The Surfer's board is composed of a nearly impervious, cosmically powered silvery material that is similar to his own skin. The board is mentally linked to him and moves in response to his mental commands even when he is not in physical contact with it. The board is not indestructible, but on those rare occasions when it is damaged or destroyed, he is able to repair or even recreate it with little effort. He can attack opponents remotely by directing the board against them, and the board is capable of absorbing and imprisoning other beings, at least temporarily.
Sentry (Robert Reynolds) – His powers derive from a serum that moves his molecules an instant ahead of the current timeline. Even though most of his powers and their limits are unknown, he displays several abilities including vast superhuman strength, speed, stamina, durability and senses, the power of flight, and energy projection.
He has been shown to be able to easily lift tremendous weights, but generally greatly restrains his full power. He has been able to effortlessly defeat, and break the axe of Terrax,[32] a herald of Galactus shown as powerful enough to slice planets in two, easily break through the shields of Doctor Doom, and his unrestrained power even overloaded the Absorbing Man. He possesses super-human speed, making him easily able to evade or catch bullets, and through flight he can travel to the sun and back in a matter of minutes. Nick Fury has stated that S.H.I.E.L.D. has not yet found a way to kill the Sentry, and Iron Man's scanners have found no physical weaknesses in his body. His durability exceeds that of Thor and Hercules. By unleashing his full potential he managed to fight an extremely enraged Hulk for a prolonged time until both fighters reverted to their human forms and the Sentry collapses at Bruce Banner's feet. He also has superhuman senses as he once tells an opponent that he can see his nerve centers and claimed to be able to "hear a butterfly sneeze in Central Africa" from New York City. He can project energy fields and control light, and he uses his mental powers in his daily life, although they are primarily used for holding his physical form together. He was once able to implant his memories inside another person's mind. He appears to be able to bring the dead back to life under extreme emotional distress. After Ultron murdered his wife, Sentry was able to resuscitate her by simply touching her. He can also emit a radiation that pacifies the Hulk, severely limiting the latter's rage-fueled power. His main weakness may be that he's been shown as susceptible to mental manipulation.
He possesses tremendous energy projection, capable of harming even the Hulk, who has withstood the equivalent of solar flares unharmed. The serum he drank was stated as being a hundred thousand times stronger than the original used on Captain America, and was modified by Weapon X.
