So after the underwhelming Justice League movie, i have decided to go back in time and alter the dceu movies. As i believe they should have been. Starting with of course, Man of Steel.
Now before we get going, i would like you to know a few things.
1: i'm a Marvel guy, and by that i mean they're comics. The MCU movies second.
2: i don't pretend to be a dc know it all as i lean to marvel. So if i make some decsions that some of you who are dc know it all types don't like. Well, quite frankly i don't give a shit.
3: I've been around these here CBM.com parts for a while now, and if you don't already know, i don't like the character of Superman. Also i hate Wonder Woman, not the movie, just her character. I admit, even as a "hater" the WW movie was good.
4: I will be changing casting choices, if i can think of or find a suitable replacement. Amy Adams is out as lois lane. I like her but always thought she was miscast as Lane. Otherwise just use your imagination.
5: This won't be a long winded redue of the DCEU movies, but more of a quick rehashing. Making them better in a what if reality.
So with that said lets begin....
Man of Steel --- released 2013
So here where it all began, neck snaps and all. Well, honestly this movie isn't all that bad. There's some stuff to work with here. So were keeping Cavill as Superman, and Costner and Keaton return as the Kents as well. Russel Crowe will also return as Zor-El.
In the begining when Jor-el and Lara-el send young Kal off the dieing Kryton,we see a second, nearly identical escape ship behind Kal in the distance. It's caught in the planet explosin a little, but enters Hyperspace/wormhole to Earth. But, it dosn't get there with Kal's ship. But more on that later, also we see that some of Kryton has been pulled through the wormholes with the ships. Creating a meteor shower over parts of the northern hemisphere. Kal's ship lands, and he taken in by the Kent's. We all know that part, but some kryptonite lands with him. So Supes grows up knowing that shit is his weakness. Zod and the gang there are sent to the phantom zone before Krypton dies, and Jor-el is killed by Zod. When Supes is 7 years old, his folks are watching tv as he plays with the dog as we see breaking news. "folks we have some tragic news to report from Gotham City tonight. We are saddened to inform you that the worlds richest couple, beloved worldwide for their generosity and commitment to help those in need, Thomas and Martha Wayne have been murdered! There killer was shot and killed by police a short time later. Their young son and only child 6 year old Bruce Wayne, who witnessed the heinous crime first hand, survived uninjured."
I’m changing Pa Kent's speech about letting people die, instead of using his powers to save them. That was bullshit, total bullshit. He's taught to use his powers for good, but be cautious and try to protect his secret "kent" idenity so he can still live his life, out of the cape. We now flash forward maybe with some montage of young Supes helping people with his powers in Smallville. Which includes saving that school bus. But here's an idea, because his dad said try and protect his identity his wears a ski mask. Also he wasn't on it. He was picked up early by Martha for a fake doctors appointment. Which is a way they make people think he is normal. We would then jump forward to a junior in high school Supes who is arguing with his dad about playing football. His dad lays down the law and no is no. Supes says something stupid as he walks away though Johnathan Grabs his chest and drops, Supes tries to save him but can't. A hard lesson, but he now understands that even with all his powers, you can't save everyone. Which is reinforced by Martha that it shouldn't stop him from trying. There, now Supes won't be a brooding jackass. Instead of the big blue boy scout.
After the funeral we see Supes watching the interactive "Jor-el" program on the ship that brought him to Earth. Telling him to keep testing his limits. Flash forward to a now adult 23 year old Supes in the Arctic where he has built the proto-version of the fortress of solitude. Including a phantom zone projector. He has his ship there and everything. He hears something in the distance then fly’s off to Metropolis. He saves Lois Lane and Jimmy Olson who are in the crossfire between Intergang and the police. In the process he helps a homeless wino. Supes notices that his heart beat is perfectly calm despite whats going on around him. At the same time we see Supes shake his head, he feels a little off. We notice this as the viewers, So does the wino. We learn his name is Bob, Supes tells him to try and be a little more carefull and where there's a homeless shelter. Bob the bum though wreeks of vodka, so supes leaves him on the sidewalk. Bob watches intently as Supes flys away, he looks at the necklace he is wearing. It has a small green emerald like stone on it. He then throws out the bottle of vodka and walks into an allyway.
( In this scene we meet Captain Dan Turpin, Head of Metropolis special crimes division. gangs and drugs etc. He is not a fan of Supes.)
After saving them Supes quickly disappears and we see Clark Kent appear on scene as the reporter we know him as. Lois refers to him as "Smallville" and telling him he's late to the party as always. The three of them then head to the Daily Planet. Later that day across town, and were at a tech expo. Which is co-sponsored by LexCorp & Wayne Industries. Here we meet Lex Luther and Bruce Wayne, not played by Eisenberg and Affleck. Lex is watching a tv with coverage of Superman’s latest heroics, as he’s been active for about a year. Lex clearly hates him, Telling Bruce something along the lines of “ look at him Bruce, first it was the Meta-humans, now him. At least they’re human, he’s an alien from another world. Who’s come here and hoards all that power and knowledge. Casting out the verdicts of his so called justice, like some damned god from atop mount Olympus.” Yes, meta-humans do exist in this world, and are known. Lex clearly hates Superman, but we see that Bruce just plays along with Lex. In Bruce’s eyes we see not hatred or jealousy, but distrust.
( Here we also have Lex mention to Bruce that he has his own vigilante in Gotham, Batman. Lex has NO idea Bruce is Batman, no one does. At least not yet, and Batman is more of an urban myth.)
Later that night we see Lex in one of his facilities, as one of his scientists is speaking with him. One of Lexcorp's long range satellites has spotted a space ship which is in orbit around Mars. We qucikly go to Supes in his fortress. He is working on the ship that brought him to Earth, he activates one of the controls. We watch and realize it's a tracking beacon. Supes isn't surprised, as he speaks, " This thing must be damaged, There is nothing where this thing is telling me to look." Back over to Lex as his satellite shows the spaceship quickly leave Mars orbit. Lex speaks, " Where is it heading now? His scientist responds, Earth sir, and fast."
Now where back at the Kent farm, with Supes and his mom. They are eating dinner talking about his exploits as Superman. She is warning him that he needs to find a happy medium when it comes to helping people. He understands he can't save everyone, but he is interfering a lot of times more than helping the Metropolis PD. Martha wants him to work more with the police. "Less scare tactics, like that lunatic in Gotham". She says. At This moment the events of Man of Steel start unfolding.
Zod wants the codex to restart a new Krypton.
He was brought from Mars to Earth by the signal when Supes was messing with his ship. There is no scout ship on Earth. He had an idea of where in the universe to look for Supes because of when he killed Jor-El. He got a brief look at the space cordinates. He knew which galaxy, but a galaxy is gigantic.
Zod hacks the planet's TV and Radio signals annoucing that he will destroy the Earth with his advanced weapons if Supes dosen't surrender to him. He says Supes is a fugitive from Kryptonian justice.
Supes turns himself in to the military just like in man of steel, and is picked up by Faora. Played by the same actress.
Supes tries to reason with Zod after realizing that he intends to terra-form the Earth into New Krypton. Here we get a line from Supes that would have made sense in the original MoS. Supes tells Zod to terra-form Mars. It's a blank slate to start over. But Zod responds " That world was destroyed by an ancient war, long forgotten". Which opens the door to Martian Manhunter.
From here Supes escapes Zod's ship to protect his mother from Faora.
Zod finds out the codex is in Supes DNA, and will just kill him if he
has to.
The military starts fighting Faora and Nam-Ek. Here we get that great line between Faora and Christopher Meloni's Colonel Nathan Hardy. " A good death is it's own reward".
Supes gives his ship to the military scientist Dr. Emil Hamilton. With a copy of the holo-recording of Jor-El explaing how retro fit the ships engine into a phantom zone projector.
Colonel Hardy flys the cargo plane into Zod's ship. A good death is it's own reward to Faora, who is too late to stop him. They are pulled into the Phantom zone. It's just Zod and Supes left. Some of Metropolis is destroyed, but not half the city like in MoS.
Supes lures Zod away from populated areas as best he can. Their fight goes into space and they destroy the Waynetech satellite. They plummet back to Earth and end up in Denver, Colorado. Here we get an Easter egg. More on that in a minute.
Supes eventually gets Zod to the fortress of solitude.
Here Supes flashes back to a time he was speaking with Zor-el's hologram recording. Zor-el tells him that he needs to keep testing his limits. Also explains that the Phantom zone projecter he sent with baby Kal was part of his plan to save some Kryptonians. Placing them into the phantom zone and restoring them when the time was right. However this never happened as the consul of Krypton wouldn't allow it.
This phantom zone projector is damaged though and it will open a small event horizen (black hole to the phantom zone) pulling everything and everyone around it in. Until the almost drained power core runs out.
Supes activates the projector and it starts pulling him and Zod in. They fight as the fortress around them gets sucked into the phantom zone. Finally,Supes manages to knock Zod into the event horizon. The projector runs out of power and it's over.
The movie begins to wind down,
We see Supes rebuilding the Kent farm house and talking with his mom. There's tv footage covering everything that happened. The world is watching this basicly. We see Lex watching, we see Batman, with Alfred watching over his shoulder. Back with Lex, he presses a call button on his desk. Mercy Graves walks in and he tells her to "Make the call, price is of no concern." We cut to a military facility, where everyone is dead, including Dr Emil Hamilton. The screen goes out of focus, then back and we see a limo with a figure approching it. The camera focuses in and it's Deathstroke. He broke into the military facility and stole the Jor-El hologram recording, and is giving it to Lex. Lex pays him via wire transfer and the two part ways. Lex looks at the hologram device, and wonders aloud. "What secrets will you reveal".
End Movie.
Mid credits scene - Amada Waller is meeting with military personal secretly. Like in the Suicide Squad movie. It's been 3 months since the events of this MoS movie. They're discussing possible contingency plans for Meta-human/ Superman like problems. Belle reve prison is mentioned to be nearly finished. Waller wants to fight fire with fire and have a goverenment team of meta-humans. She has computer files on certain individuals. On some of the files we see the names,
Zatara&Zatanna
Colorado Shapeshifter?
Central City speedster?
Ra's Al Ghul
Dr. Barbara Minerva
Vandal Savage
John Constantine
Deathstroke - played by Joe Manganiello
Volcana
Aquaman?
Diana Prince
Dr Victor Fries
Solomon Grundy/Captured
Dr Alec Holland
Scott (Mister Miracle) & Barda Free
Jason Blood
*Note* Waller has no idea Scott (Mister Miracle) & Barda Free are New Gods or anything like that. Just that they have abilities.
(Think Stryker's computer in X-2, there are something like 50 names. These are just the ones we can see. There are NO superhero/Villian logos here. That was very stupid on Snyder's part.)
This scene ends with with one of the Generals asking Waller about that "Clown guy" and "Man-Bat in Gotham."
Waller says that the Joker as he calls himself was locked up in Arkham Asylum last night. Thanks in large part to Batman, not man-bat. She goes on to say that Batman is very real, though no one in Gotham will officially acknowledge it. That he's real, and VERY dangourous. For know at least, best left at arm's length.
After Credits scene: We are in Detroit, Michigan,as a man is closing up a bar. Two gangbangers walk in and pull pistols demanding the nights take. The old man tries to talk them down, but one of the scumbags shoots him. The old man is wounded, but not dead. As the gangbangers fumble around trying to get the register and safe open, a man comes out of the bathroom behind them. He sneaks up and attacks them, taking them down. One of the gangbangers gets a shot off which grazes the mans arm. He ignores the gun shot and knocks out the would be robber. Then ties both of them up and sees to the bartender. Police and medics arrive to aid the bartender. As he is being put into the ambulance he mentions to the other man, "John, i don't know how to thank you. They should never have kicked you out of the Seals. But, tonight,i'm glad they did. John nods as he refuses aid from paramedics.
We cut to John walking in his apartment, and we see framed paperwork on the wall of his graduation from B.U.D.S. The Navy Seal training program. This paperwork has his full name on it, John Stewert. John sits down in a chair by the window. It's a snow storm outside, as he takes a swig of whiskey, and stitches his arm up. After treating his wound, John is staring out the window at the falling snow. He notices a green dot in the distance, which we see coming closer, quickly. Almost before he can react, this green light bursts through his window, and hovers right in front of John's face. He is alarmed, but intrigued, as we see it's a green lantern ring. It's seems to be almost reaching out to John. He can't help himself and puts the ring on. As soon as he does, John's eyes glow green, and we see that John is in some kind of hypnotic trance.
We hear a very faint "do you accept this responsibility, John Stewert of Earth." Then John speaks his first and only word of this end credits scene, "Yes". With that he is enveloped in green light and shoots into space. As he leaves Earth's atmosphere we see him from the perspective of two astronuats. They are repairing a damaged satellite from the battle between Superman and Zod. They watch as the green blur we know is John, dissappears into deep space. As one speaks, "Did you see that? Yeah, really wish i hadn't."
End Scene.
*Note* We would learn in this universe that John Stewert was dishonorably discharged from the Navy Seals. The result of refusing to call in an airstrike on a village full of innocent civilians. His comander attempts to do it anyway, but John broke his jaw. He is later court-martled, and kicked out of the service. He returned home to Detroit.
Movie Easter Eggs -
1) - When Supes and Zod land in Denver, Colorado they end up in the parking lot of a Police station. There is a parking space sign that says Reserved for Detective John Jones.
2) - When Clark, Lois and Jimmy return to the Daily Planet after Supes first heroics we see a statue. It's of three men. The man in the center is standing wearing a suit, with a press tag in the band of his fedora hat. With a pencil and note pad in his hands. The man to his left is sitting using a typewriter. the man to the right is sitting at a drawing board. The three men as we see the statue more clearly are starting in the center, Christopher Reeves. At his left Jerry Siegel, and to the right of Reeves is Joe Shuster. There's a plaque type sign at the base of the statue which reads, "The legends who came before us, and made it all possible".
Next up, my Batman movie. Stay tuned.
