WWPRJD: The Uncanny X-Men!
What Would PunkRockJesus Do if he could cast an X-Men Reboot?
Friends, Romans and Gusto! Gather around and witness the spectacle that is the first in many WWPRJD Fancasts!
Firstly, The Uncanny X-Men: a fan's dream of a pure and sacred X-Men reboot rooted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
This first installment would be the classic telling of Professor X and his original 5 X-Men versus the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, led by the enigmatic Magneto, the master of magnetism. The X-Men must stop the Brotherhood's attempt to assassinate Senator Robert Kelly. Along the way, they stumble across that crazy canuck, Wolverine, an amnesiac with one hell of a temper, who assists them in their heroic mission! Of course, there would be other shit going on so this could be a 2 hour flick, of course!
Anywho, the cast:
Bryan Cranston as Charles Xavier/Professor X
(As seen in Breaking Bad/Godzilla/Malcolm in the Middle)
Age: 58/Height: 5' 11" (That's right, age and height will be listed for all you die hard fanboys out there)
Now, this may seem like a lazy/obvious/whateverthehellelse choice to some people, but our dear Professor has to be someone that is just crazy talented and likeable to fill Sir Patrick Stewarts HUGE shoes. Cranston has shown incredible talent in both comedic and dramatic roles and would most certainly portray Xavier as the tortured, yet stoic character he is.
Jared Padalecki as Scott Summers/Cyclops
(As seen in Supernatural/House of Wax)
Age: 31/Height: 6' 4"
I'm not a huge fan of Supernatural, the earlier seasons were very enjoyable but I feel it's become the show that is just beating a dead horse, personally. But Padalecki (and Ackles, of course) have both shown their acting chops, both playing believable and relatable heroes. He also has the right look, in my humble opinion, and that killer height to tower over our other players.
Alexandra Daddario as Jean Grey/Marvel Girl
(As seen in True Detective/Texas Chainsaw 3D/Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief)
Age: 28/Height: 5' 8"
Firstly: Gughghghgghghg she is so hot. Now that that's out of the way, she has shown she can be the lead heroine in Texas Chainsaw (as big of a poop troop movie that was). My personal favorite role of hers was her guest appearance in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Oh, and did I mention gugghghgghghghgh
Sam Witwer as Hank McCoy/Beast
(As seen in Being Human/Star Wars: The Force Unleashed/The Mist)
Age: 36/Height: 6' 1"
Witwer was another person I first saw in an episode of Sunny, portraying some beefcake the gang invited to their veiny penis party, but he really sold himself to me, personally, as an actor in Being Human. He plays the two hundred year old vampire, Aidan, and he was phenomenal. The show is unfortunately being cancelled, if you haven't watched it, do so. It's a little CW Drama-ey at moments, but for the most part it's really good. I think if you slapped some glasses on his mug and gave him big, confusing words to say he would make a great Hank.
Emile Hirsch as Bobby Drake/Iceman
(As seen in The Girl Next Door/Lone Survivor/Into the Wild/Lords of Dogtown)
Age: 29/Height: 5' 7"
I love this guy. Especially in Lords of Dogtown. He is a great actor and I have tons of respect for him. He can also pull of the comedy that Bobby brings to the team as seen co-starring with Paul Rudd in the film Prince Avalanche.
Tom Felton as Warren Worthington III/Angel
(As seen in Rise of the Planet of the Apes/The Harry Potter films)
Age: 26/Height: 5' 9"
This, honestly, was the hardest role for me to cast. Too many pretty boys with shit acting chops kept coming to mind, but finally I settled on Felton. I really like him as an actor, his portrayal of Draco Malfoy is his most well known role and I think he could pull off the proper, somewhat uptightness that Warren brought to the team.
Tom Hardy as Logan/Wolverine
(As seen in Inception/Bronson/Warrior/The Dark Knight Rises)
Age: 36/Height: 5' 9"
Hardy is one of my favorite actors. If you haven't seen Bronson, go watch it on Netflix, it's the film that made me love him as an actor. This has been a popular choice around here for a potential replacement to fill Hugh Jackman's shoes if he were to step down from the role of Wolverine, and I've been all for it from the get go. Hardy's performance in Warrior (not to mention physique) is perfect for the character of Logan.
Russell Crowe as Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto
(As seen in Gladiator/A Beautiful Mind/The Man of Steel)
Age: 50/Height: 5' 11"
Not much can be said that hasn't already about the incredible actor Russell Crowe. I think he would be a perfect Magneto, one who has a commanding presence both physically and emotionally. It would be great to see him in the role of the X-Men's archnemesis throughout a new series.
Joel Edgerton as Victor Creed/Sabretooth
(As seen in The Great Gatsby/Warrior/The Thing/Zero Dark Thirty)
Age: 39/Height: 5' 11"
Another favorite actor of mine, the first role I remember seeing him in was Hugo in Smokin' Aces which was not too memorable but over time he has showed immense talent. If you have ever seen King Arthur the one with Clive Owen, you should remember him as Gawain. Imagine that look for Sabretooth, eh? Eh?
Emilia Clarke as Raven Darkholme/Mystique
(As seen in Game of Thrones/The upcoming Terminator:Genesis)
Age: 27/Height: 5' 2"
Mystique has become somewhat of an insanely X-Men character and I think Jennifer Lawrence has done a great job portraying her. It would take someone easily as likeable and popular to be able to convince audiences. Now I've only admittedly seen Clarke in Game of Thrones but she has been an amazing Daenerys, playing a convincing role of a girl growing into a strong woman. I think she would do a great job at bringing a fresh take of Mystique.
There you have it! I didn't cast the role of Senator Kelly because I honestly don't give a shit who plays him and also I'm tired as hell (and a little tipsy. Shhh) and I didn't have the patience to cast the other two Brotherhood members Toad and the Blob, as well as maybe Mastermind but if ya'll have any suggestions, say so in the normal place!
Comments and feedback are greatly appreciated! Let me know what you think! (But if all you're gonna do is post your picks for the parts, please for the love of God, just make your own damn fancast)
