"X-Men: The Dark Phoenix Saga"--The Animated Movie

A reprise for my vision of an animated take on the classic story.

When I put up my first take on a Dark Phoenix Saga animated film, I took into account some of the minor problems some people had with it (I also felt it was a little...not-to-well-written). So, it is because of that, and after much thinking, I present to you a reprise for my fancast of the Dark Phoenix Saga. Some cast members have been changed, and I've hunted down more pics of characters in the story drawn by John Byrne.

(My previous version: http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fan_fic/news/?a=36461.)

Once again, though most of the animated TV shows alter plot elements, this is my fancast for a story-and-character-accurate animated film of one of, if not the, greatest X-Men stories ever written, originally by Chris Claremont with art by John Byrne and Terry Austin.

Like my previous version of this fancast, it would be a Marvel Animation film with a (somewhat) big-name voice cast, along with the following:
1. It would be a period piece, taking place in the exact timeframe the story was published (1979-80).
2. It would be straight-on accurate to the original story.
3. It would be done in the signature art style of (drum roll please).....the DC Animated Universe!!!

I stand by #3 because I would love to see the same magic that made so many DC characters work on the small screen do the same to Marvel characters.

And now, my *slightly* revised voice cast

X-Men and allies
Terry O'Quinn as the voice of Professor X

I've been getting into the new Hawaii Five-O lately, and a lot of people here have used O'Quinn in their X-Men fancasts, but I guess I'm the first to use him as a voice actor. I feel O'Quinn would work nicely as Charlie X.

Noah Wylie as the voice of Cyclops

I chose him mainly because of his role in the "Librarian" films, but yeah, I'll take Falling Skies into account as well.

Mira Sorvino as the voice of Jean Grey/Phoenix

As mentioned in my previous version of this fancast, her role as Daisy Buchanan in that TV movie version of The Great Gatsby is what inspired this choice, as she really could bring so much of that tragic figure to, well, the tragic star of the story.

Jackie Earle Haley as the voice of Wolverine

I've said it twice, and I stick by this: Haley would be an excellent voice for Logan. See my fancast for "Marvel Team-Up Presents: Wolverine" for more.

Gina Torres as the voice of Storm

Torres did a great Vixen on Justice League Unlimited, and really made Superwoman in Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. She hasn't done any Marvel stuff yet, and I immediately thought "the voice of Storm".

Liam O'Brien as the voice of Nightcrawler

He voiced him in "Wolverine and the X-Men", and I thought he did the best voice for Kurt out of the rest who came before.

Travis Willingham as the voice of Colossus

I think Willingham would be capable of doing a better Colossus than my initial choice, Michael Adamthwaite. He's good at doing gruff and deep voices, and he played a tall metal guy already--the younger of the two brothers in Fullmetal Alchemist.

Justin Hartley as the voice of Angel/Warren Worthington III

Hartley's already got the experience of playing a comic book rich guy with a double life, so I think he could easily portray Angel.

David Hyde Pierce as the voice of Beast

I picked Pierce as a nod to his Fraiser co-star Kelsey Grammer playing Beast in X3. Pierce also lent his voice to Abe Sapien in the Hellboy movies. I could easily see him voicing Beast.

Miranda Cosgrove as the voice of Kitty Pryde

She really knows how to play feisty, upbeat, and clever characters, and she hasn't done any comic book-related stuff yet--hence choosing her to voice the inspiration for Buffy Summers.

Mandy Moore as the voice of Dazzler

A singing actress is the best bet for voicing Dazzler. Also, in light of the recent passing of Donna Summer, in the scene where Dazzler makes her appearance on stage, the song she's singing is Summer's "Last Dance" (1978). And besides, Moore's starring in an animated TV series anyway...

The Hellfire Club
Lauren Cohan as the voice of Emma Frost/The White Queen

Her recurring role on the dearly-departed Chuck inspired this pick, I loved her accent...and according to RoadDogXXIV, she was Bela on Supernatural.

Timothy Hutton as the voice of Sebastian Shaw

Hutton's role on Leverage inspired this recast--he'd voice a great Shaw. He does come from a long line of acting...

Christopher Lloyd as the voice of Harry Leland

I was inspired by his role as Judge Doom in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988), and he has a really distinct voice, so 'elder statesman'. He would be great for the Black Bishop.

Tim Curry as the voice of Donald Pierce

Like I stated in my prior version, do not intend to typecast, but Curry's turn as G. Gordon Godfrey on Young Justice reaffirmed my decision to cast him as the cyborg White Bishop.

Tim Roth as the voice of Mastermind/Jason Wyngarde

As previously stated, his role on Lie to Me inspired this casting--he is a great choice for voicing Mastermind.

The Shi'ar and other Aliens
Jeri Ryan as the voice of Lilandra

I've seen a few episodes of Star Trek: Voyager, and only watched a couple minutes of that one Two and a Half Men episode where she guest-starred--but those aside, I feel she's got the right voice for the Shi'ar's majestrix.

Kevin Sorbo as the voice of Gladiator

I picked Sorbo, as stated prior, not because of his Hercules days...he just has the right voice for the leader of the Imperial Guard.

John Stephenson as the voice of Uatu the Watcher

Stephenson is one of our most veteran voice actors still alive, and he's provided the voices of more superhero cartoons than you can remember: Super Friends, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, Pryde of the X-Men...anyway, for casting him as the Watcher, I was inspired by when he voiced Ganthet in the Duck Dodgers episode "The Green Loontern".

And my additional voices are the same:
And to close, the additional voices:
-Richard Doyle as Senator Robert Kelley, Supreme Intelligence, and Lilandra's advisor
-Corey Burton as Dr. John Grey, Smasher, and the Recorder
-Pat Musick as Elaine Grey and Hussar
-Diedrich Bader as Hellfire Club Guard and Skrull Representative
-Carlos Alazraqui as Banshee and HC Guard
-Tara Platt as HC maid and Manta
-Quinton Flynn as Havok, Silver Surfer, and Starbolt
-Grey DeLisle as Polaris, the Skrull Empress, and Oracle
-Susan Blakeslee as Moira McTaggert
-Dee Bradley Baker as Multiple Man, Kree Representative and Earthquake
-Josh Keaton as Spider-Man
-Beau Weaver as Mr. Fantastic
-Gregg Berger as the Thing
-Tom Kane as Dr. Strange and Mentor

Hope this reprise sits better with you guys!

Sweet cast. John Locke as Professor X is pretty inspired. Anyway, can you check out my Fantastic Four cast?

Can I also suggest you do a Guardians of the Galaxy animated movie cast (and by that, I mean the 2008 team).

Very cool voice casting!
They all seem to fit very well!

My only complaint would be the fact you put "See previous cast" for most of them....I think you should still give reasoning, just in case. Other than that, wonderful work!

Hey, I put the link to said previous fancast, didn't I?

To all who may notice this, simply open that link in another tab so that you may see the reasons why.

@MrBlueSky
Saw your work, nice picks, though I haven't heard of a few of the actors chosen (namely the guy you picked for the Thing).

@FlixMentallo21...I was just telling you, so others wouldn't bitch at you...Some members can be really harsh, and I just didn't want to see someone with great talent like yourself get bitched at.

@FlixMentallo21...Yes it is!
Like I said, wonderful work. I was not trying to be a dick in any way, just trying to look out for those who actually put effort into their work, like yourself.
