“HAPPY HOLLIDAYS!!!”
Casting My Own LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN
Movie, More-Loyal-To-The-Graphic Novel,
Instead Of Like That Horrid “LXG” That FOX Just
Puked-Out!

“HAPPY HOLLIDAYS EVERYBODY!”

This festive time of year brings out thoughts of DICKEN'S, “A
CHRISTMAS CAROL” with “TINY TIM and SCROOGE.

Thus I thought since we are thinking of the classics at this time
that I would put together a “MORE-LOYAL-TO-THE-GRAPHIC-
NOVEL”, “THE LEAGUE OF EXTRORDINARY GENTLEMEN”
movie fancast. This is my early CHRISTMAS present to you all!
ENJOY!

I don't hate much in this life actually but I truly HATE FOX! I hate
FOX for all the horrible CBM'S they have just puked-out! What the
heck is wrong with that movie studio? It used to be a class act, now
it's just a “CRASS” ACT!

They completely and utterly ruined ALAN MOORE'S wonderful
LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN! I don't think anyone else
will ever touch that entirely fine property again!

All it was is a big jumbled up, inaccurate, live-action kiddie cartoon!
The special effects were awful (Man, that Hyde rubber monster-body-
suit was horrid, it was just plain silly, LAUGHABLE!)

Photobucket

But if I was a wealthy producer/screenwriter I wouldn't hesitate to tackle
ALAN'S beautifully written graphic novel idea! And what a NOVEL idea
it is! Taking fictional classic horror/literary characters and wonderfully
weaving them together into an intriguing and entertaining yarn!

The First Issue, Volume One, of “THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY
GENTLEMEN” was issued, MARCH, 1999. Published by ALAN
MOORE'S own brand under DC COMICS, “AMERICA'S BEST
COMIC'S”, it was written by ALAN MOORE and illustrated by
the wonderfully stylized artist, KEVIN O'NEILL!

ALAN MOORE

This property just screams to be made the right way, according to the
writings of ALAN MOORE, within his grand graphic novel's pages!
I'd make this movie to honor ALAN MOORE'S eccentric genius, not
partially-parody it like the FOX movie did! I would have it more
VICTORIAN ENGLAND & SHERLOCK HOLMES-LIKE than a big
boomy cartoonish Superhero movie, like FOX'S!

Photobucket

I would keep Mina Harker as the leader of the group like in the graphic
novel, that immortal somewhat vampiric school-teacher who is the former
wife of DR. HARKER, from the pages of BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA,
Harker's wife who was bitten by COUNT DRACUL but saved from
total vampirism in the end. I would write her more powerful than she is
in the graphic novel, sort of vampiric, but not as exaggerated as she was
in FOX'S crappy version! But I would make her very strong, durable,
able to come out in the sunlight and immortal & forever young.

I would add the rest of the main characters, the elder ALAN
QUARTERMAIN, Part-Sihk Indian/part British CAPTAIN NEMO,
JACK SKINNER, the professional-thief INVISIBLE MAN who borrowed
CAWLEY GRIFFIN'S formula, and DR. HENRY JECKYLL and his
monstrous vile alter-ego, EDWARD HYDE!

I also would add Frenchman and retired private investigator C. AUGUSTE
DUPIN (POE'S “THE MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE”), who comes out of
retirement to help the League in the graphic novel. I would make him
an actual member, here.

But no TOM SAWYER like in FOX'S LXG! I didn't think he fit at all!

CAMPION BOND, JAMES BOND'S ancestor, is their contact at
SECTION 5 and their overall director under the leadership of the
mysterious “M”.

Mina is the field leader. (MINA thinks MYCROFT HOLMES is
CAMPION'S mysterious boss, “M”, but “M” turns out to be none other
than the dastardly archenemy of SHERLOCK HOLMES, PROFESSOR
MORIARTY!

The basic story I would go with would be the case ALAN used in the
first volume. A mysterious Chinese character known as THE DEVIL
DOCTOR has stolen samples of DOCTOR SELWYN CAVOR'S
CAVORITE (H.G. WELL'S “THE FIRST MEN ON THE MOON”),
an artificial substance he invented that blocks earth's gravity and
imbues anti-gravity, causing flight. THE DEVIL DOCTOR wants to
create flying machines to aerially attack LONDON with.

The LEAGUE was formed to stop THE DOCTOR who was actually the
Chinese crime lord FU MANCHU. For this movie I would not reveal
his true name and just hint that it's FU MANCHU, just keep him the
insidious mysterious DEVIL DOCTOR.

They recover the CAVORITE and give it to “M”, who, unbeknownst to
them all, except for CAMPION, is actually the dreaded PROFESSOR MORIARTY! In the end the CAVORITE ends up being THE PROFESSOR'S death!

MY “MORE-LOYAL-TO-THE-SOURCE-MATERIAL” MOVIE FANCAST OF...

“THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN”:

Photobucket

EMILY looks a lot like the MINA of the GRAPHIC NOVEL.

MINA HARKER (WILHELMINA MURRAY): EMILY BLUNT

Photobucket

RICHARD CHAMBERLAIN played ALAN QUARTERMAIN in a
couple of entertaining movies (At least I liked them as a kid!) so I
figured since he is in his 70's now he is perfect for the part!

ALAN QUARTERMAIN: SIR RICHARD CHAMBERLAIN

Photobucket

MARK has already played an ARAB fellow in “BODY OF LIES” so I
believe he is a VERY fitting candidate for the part-British/part-Indian
Punjabi role of this particular NEMO.

CAPTAIN NEMO (DAKKAR): MARK STRONG

Photobucket

I always thought Joseph would be perfect to play the tortured DR.
JECKYLL.

DR. HENRY JEKYLL: JOSEPH FIENNES

Photobucket

I don't like the over-use of CGI so I would use the real actor, ROBERT
MAILLOT with prosthetics & some CGI. He's 7' tall so it doesn't take
much to make him monstrous, heck he already looks a lot like HYDE!
As I've already stated, the rubber suit was stupid in the FOX movie.

EDWARD HYDE: ROBERT MAILLOT + CGI, MAKE-UP

Photobucket

DOMINIC is great at playing irascible characters and I think he is ideal
for this role. MOORE used CAWLEY GRIFFIN, the original H.G.
WELLS INVISIBLE MAN but I kind of like the scalawag thief angle
from the FOX movie. In the CLAUDE RAINES original INVISIBLE
MAN movie they mentioned that THE INVISIBLE MAN'S first name
might be JACK but no one really knew for sure. I thought I'd give it to
SKINNER here to differentiate it from the FOX movie.

JACK SKINNER (INVISIBLE MAN): DOMINIC MONAGHAN

Photobucket

PATRICK STEWART looks just like the illustration and would be
wonderful as the elder Parisian Private Investigator AUGUSTE DUPIN!

C. AUGUSTE DUPIN: SIR PATRICK STEWART

Photobucket

Well, you all know exactly why I chose this actor for this part...PERFECT!

CAMPION BOND: TIMOTHY DALTON

Photobucket

MYCROFT HOLMES: JIM BROADBENT

Photobucket

VILLAINS:

Now I didn't go into this striving to make this an all Fiennes cast but
dammit RALPH is extremely “FINE” for MORIARTY, he just is!
(Sorry about the PUN!) LOL

“M” (PROFESSOR JAMES MORIARTY): RALPH FIENNES

Photobucket

Some castings are just...DU-U-UH...and I ain't “FU—LIN'”!

THE DEVIL DOCTOR (FU MANCHU): CHOW YUN FAT

Photobucket

“MERRY, MIRTHFUL, HAPPY HOLLIDAYS!!!”

never red this graphic novel but the actors match with the character

this is fine cast DDD great as usual, the only good thing in the fox made movies was sean connery the guy was class, i have two little problems with your cast, i think it would be better if an actual indian was cast as captain nemo but mark strong is fricking amazing so it dosent really matter, and personally i would have gone with a actor in his 60's for quatermain but nonethe less your picks are great, your mina harker is spot on, what you got planned next dude, and ALAN MOORE'S a genius

very well done

Superb casting DDD! Very well laid out. I like it and would put money down to see this!

Thumbs Up!

DDD @ I actually didn't mind the movie lol, but yeah [frick] Fox, I still haven't read the comic book series, so I'll probably start hating it if I do lol! : P

I like Connery in it but hot damn man, your cast is awesome, dude all I can say is =

Too!
FrankGarret
FrankGarret - 12/8/2010, 7:39 AM
Pretty damn good, DDD. Can't believe I never thought of Blunt as Mina. Strong would make a great Nemo, too.

I got to say, though, I disagree on your Jekyll and your Griffin.

Hope you don't mind me pimping my own LeagueofExtraordinaryGentlemen fancast :P.

yankeemanf - 12/8/2010, 8:26 AM
i think that ken watanabe should play fu manchu other than that a great cast

DDD - 12/8/2010, 8:37 AM
Hey TANK@ Thanks!

I recommend these graphic novels wholeheartedly!
I don't think you'll be disappointed reading them!
Check 'em out and see!
DDD
DDD - 12/8/2010, 8:53 AM
IBZ@ THANX!

Yeah, Sean was awesome as QUARTEMAIN but when
isn't he! LOL

But the movie was just an inaccurate train wreck
and I think it did a great disservice to ALAN
MOORE'S finely written story! It wasn't in the
spirit of Moore's original at all!

QUARTERMAIN is older than his 60's in the graphic
novel and Chamberlain is barely in his 70's.
He looks much younger than his age.

I thought some people would dislike my not casting
an Indian as Nemo but Nemo is part British part
Indian, he just disavowed his English side! I
thought Strong would be the 'strongest' actor for
the part, emotionally-wise. The guy in the FOX movie
hardly showed any emotion at all! His performance
was wooden and he is a good actor too boot!

Of course the whole movie was just off and the
JEKYLL/HYDE portion was just stupid and overblown!

What I got planned next is a surprise!
LOL
Ibz
Ibz - 12/8/2010, 8:55 AM
@DDD i dont have a problem with mark strong as nemo he would be great but i would just prefer some one else
DDD
DDD - 12/8/2010, 8:55 AM
Thank you very kindly LC@!

I tried very, very hard to match them up
looks-wise and acting-wise! LOL
DDD
DDD - 12/8/2010, 8:58 AM
Thanks ROMACK, I very seriously would love to do
the adaptation script for this and produce it if
I only ever had the chance!
LOL
DDD
DDD - 12/8/2010, 9:04 AM
Hey, Leee@ the movie actually entertained me a
little too but the only real thing I loved
about the movie was CONNERY'S wonderful amazing
turn as QUARTEMAIN! But this movie really pissed
Sean off when he saw the final copy!

Lee@...
If you had read the graphic novel before seeing
the movie like I did I guarantee you wouldn't
have enjoyed the movie as much!

Thanx bud!
LEEE777
LEEE777 - 12/8/2010, 9:09 AM
DDD @ No worries and thank you dude! ; )

Yeah I dunno if I dare read the comic now lol... I have LXG on Blu-Ray and It sounds to me reading the book will taint it big time haha!

Damn, I will get the graphic Novel tho, I remember wanting to buy it for a long time, then the movie came out and I didn't bother...

Yeah I will, thanks bud!
DDD
DDD - 12/8/2010, 9:15 AM
Thanks FRANK@!

No, I don't mind you pimping your fancast...it's
a fine one indeed! You cast everybody from all
the volumes! Holy Toledo, Man! Fantastic huge job!
I commented on it favorably at the time!

The only one I didn't quite agree with in your
fancast was DR. JEKYLL! I don't think EDDLESTON
fit JEKYLL all that well!

I've always thought Joseph Fiennes would be a
great JEKYLL in a JEKYLL & HYDE movie!

Yeah, I actually didn't like GRIFFIN'S story
in the graphic novel, I didn't like how Moore
painted him so unfavorably and brutal! He was
more like Kervin Bacon's INVISIBLE MAN than
Griffin's. So I switched him out for Skinner,
the irascible thief.
DDD
DDD - 12/8/2010, 9:23 AM
I didn't do this fancast to ruin your fond memories
of the movie LEEE@! Sorry 'bout that! LOL

But I would just love to see a movie more truer to
the source material! Moore hated it because it was not
true to his story at all! I can see where he's coming
from!
DDD
DDD - 12/8/2010, 9:29 AM
Thanks EARZMUNDO@!

Is that you Anil@ My Friend?
LOL

Yup, I didn't have any problem with Sean's
performance! It was wonderful!

I still enjoyed the movie a bit.

My brother isn't a comic book fan
and he liked the movie! But he never
read the GN like me!
DDD
DDD - 12/8/2010, 9:29 AM
OK, IBZ@!
Frogman
Frogman - 12/8/2010, 12:03 PM
I've not read the graphic novel and i quite enjoyed the film, like LEEE if i do read it that is probably likely to change :P They don't appear to be doing anything with the property anyway so REBOOT ;) This is a solid cast that I think would work well together.
BLADE4040
BLADE4040 - 12/8/2010, 12:14 PM
DDD: The LEAGUE of GENTS let's face it it was
basically a major disappointment. The storyline
was all over the place so if you were not famaliar
with the characters this movie didnt help much.
QUARTEMAINE and Cpt.NEMO could've saved this movie
along with handling Mr.HYDE correctly HYDE looked
terrible!! The reason Im stating all this is to address
your fancast so with out anymore boring chatter from me
here's my take on things....

I cant image SIR CHAMBERLAIN doing a better job in
this role than SIR CONNERY but I do like the pick.

Mark Strong is a good actor I just think that maybe
Anil Kapoor would make a better Prince DAKKAR:CPT.NEMO
he is after all the son of a INDIAN RAJA.

MAILLET was born to play MR.HYDE and you wouldnt need
much to get him to looking the part!

FAT is MANCHU nuff said!!

Steward like Connery is always good he'd own DUPIN.

Once again BIG GUY GREAT CAST on a poorly done movie.
This would be a major improvement based off your ideas
and casting for such a movie!!
LEEE777
LEEE777 - 12/8/2010, 12:21 PM
DDD @ Heh heh cool! ; P
DDD
DDD - 12/8/2010, 12:38 PM
Thanks Yankeeman@!

Yeah, I considered Watanbe but he's JAPANESE
and I thought CHOW YUN-FAT would be more accurate.
AlexDeLarge87
AlexDeLarge87 - 12/8/2010, 12:39 PM
GREAT CAST! Thou i would choose someone with more bony face as Fu Manchu!... Maybe Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa!
Michael Fassbender would be my choice as Dr. Jekyll!
Love your Moriarty choice!:D
LEEE777
LEEE777 - 12/8/2010, 12:47 PM
DDD @ I don't pimp in fan-fics but dude check this out =

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/UltimateWolverine/news/?a=26147

I feel for the guy coz no ones gone in it and its done rather well!
DDD
DDD - 12/8/2010, 12:47 PM
FROGMAN@ Thanks!

Yeah, the movie definitely was way off from Moore's
story and spirit!
But a lot of people didn't know that at the theater!

But the critics at the time realized what an
inaccurate mess it was! They panned the movie!
I read the graphic novel beforehand so it was
a huge disappointment to me, personally!

I thought it was gonna be great with Sean and all
but Connery was the only bright spot in the
movie! It was just so cartoonish it ruined it for
me!
DDD
DDD - 12/8/2010, 12:58 PM
Thanks ALEX@ but yet again Cary Tagawa is Japanese
and I wanted a Chinese guy for Fu Manchu. I'm
sticking by Chow, I think he would be great as FU!

Fassbender would be OK as Jekyll but I still like
Joseph as Jekyll, myself. But Flemyng hammed it up
something terrible in FOX'S LXG! I really hated his
cartoonish performance and that gosh-awful rubber
suit!
secretasianboy
secretasianboy - 12/8/2010, 2:30 PM
love it
it would be so much better than the bullshit movie
my one complaint is that nemo should be played by an indian
AlexDeLarge87
AlexDeLarge87 - 12/8/2010, 4:11 PM
DDD@ Chow would be great as Fu definitely. Just trowing ideas in the air. Same with Joseph.
And yeah Flemyng definitely failed miserably, but i think the script and the directing takes part of the blame.
DDD
DDD - 12/8/2010, 6:38 PM
Secretasian@ yeah, I was afraid I might get
some flack about Strong not being Indian
but I think he's the best for the part, in my
honest, humble opinion!

He played an ARAB in "BODY OF LIES" and he's not
ARAB either!
DDD
DDD - 12/8/2010, 6:44 PM
Alex@ I get ya and I wouldn't be totally adverse
to Cary Tagawa as FU! He's a damm good actor!

Yeah, the script mainly was awful for FOX'S LXG!

Some of the acting was terrible too, not just Flemyng!
I wouldn't mind them rebooting this and still keep
SEAN as ALAN but Connery said never again!

I don't blame him! He acted his guts out and the
rest of the movie was just plain overblown and
childish!
DDD
DDD - 12/8/2010, 6:47 PM
Oh, thank goodness EARZMUNDO!
That new name has quite a ring to it!
But it's still the tasteful YOU! LOL

Fantastico!
DDD
DDD - 12/8/2010, 6:48 PM
I'll check it out Leee@!
AlexDeLarge87
AlexDeLarge87 - 12/9/2010, 4:43 AM
DDD@ Yeah poor Connery! He is probably still pissed off about that flick (Like we are)?!xD... Thats why he havent acted in movies for years!
