"Peter, secrects have a cost."

The Amazing Spider-Man is the underdog of the summer and the lowest grossing Spider-Man movie yet, but does that mean the movie is bad? Unessecary reboot? Find out here

Acting: Not bashing other movies this summer but, I feel this film has the strongest performances in a movie as a whole. I did not know, even after watching Social Network, how he would do as Peter because having not seen him in any other movie. After seeing this film, I have never been so sure in my life. Andrew is Peter Parker/Spider-Man and needs to play him in the sequels, but no Avengers crossover. He was the strongest of the actors, the last two times I was convinced an actor in a comicbook movie was that character was Robert Downey jr as Tony Stark/Iron Man and the late Heath Ledger as The Joker. Emma Stone, I had seen her in a couple other movie before so I had nothing but high expectations for her in this movie and she did not disappoint. Rhys Ifans, I first saw him in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1 when he played Xenophilius Lovegood. To be honest, I thought from that he was a weird cast choice for Dr.Curt Connors.
I was more protective of that portrayal than Spider-Mans but Rhys is on level with Andrew's Peter, Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin and Alfred Molina's Otto Octavius but in a different way because I feel as a villain, he is more sympathetic than the other villains in the films and I think you care for him more than the rest. Sally Field and Martin Sheen as Ben and May Parker, I thought these two couldn't have been more perfectly cast (not to put down Rosemary Harris and Cliff Robertson, R.I.P) especially Sally Field. Even though she wasn't given much to do, she was convincing as Aunt May. I had never seen Denis Leary in anything live action before, but judging from this film as Captain George Stacy I thought he did a really great job as both a convincing police captain and as a father. Irrfan Kahn, is the weakest link in this film. He was dry and you couldn't understand anything this man said.

Direction: For Marc Webb's second feature film, he did an amazing job (no pun intended). Marc Webb knows how to direct romance, we all knew he is excellent in finding actors with great chemistry. The big worry though, at least for me was could he direct action. To my surprise, he had the best action scenes out of all comicbook movies. Namely, the high school fight.

Score: I've never paid much attention to scores in the past but I was actually humming the theme after the movie ended. I actually think that James Horner did a better job in composing a Spider-Man film more than Danny Elfman. I really don't know how to describe it other than that the main theme and the romantic tunes in this movie suit the character perfectly.

Visuals: This is where the movie starts falling a little bit, the visuals overall were great. But, there are a couple bad shots where The Lizard looks bad and not in the good way.

The Lizard: Yes, I gave the villain his own catagory because I feel I need to touch upon this. The Lizard was portrayed as we was in the comics but in this case, without Martha and Billy. He was portrayed perfectly, his motives were just like the comics as well as the classic look. The coat was in a couple scenes and looked good on him there but I'm glad they didn't have him wear pants. Some looks of certain characters just don't work on film and The Lizard wearing clothes for the whole movie is one of them.

Editing: Alot of people have a problem with the movie's pacing, I just don't see why. I thought the film went along real smoothly. The editing was well done, it kept the movie going and nothing got confusing as far as the action goes.

Overall: The most under-rated comicbook movie (in my opinion, despite what the boxoffice says). The Amazing Spider-Man is the best Spider-Man film yet. Strong performances, great score, characters you care about, sympathetic villain and a director who did a damn good job for his first action film and his second feature film. Despite plots being dropped and plot holes here and there and a couple bad visuals, this is a well done film and should be given a view. Whether it's a reboot or not. It was still too early for a reboot of a film that came out only 10 years ago but this was worth the cash. I can't tell you about 3-D because there were no 3-D showings because the theater took it out. I'm giving The Amazing Spider-Man a 9/10 and I can't wait for the sequel.

Also, if anyone can tell me whether Aunt May in the film knows Peter is Spider-Man or not, put it in a comment below because that was confusing.

@Spidey23: I just feel as a whole, Spider-Man shouldn't be in a crossover with The Avengers. Their Spider-Man and Marvel's Avengers have completely different tones and looks to them. It wouldn't fit.

Great review. It'd get a 7/10 from me mainly because of some of the wasted characters and the script being a bit unreal at times.

I don't get why people think this wasn't the untold story, I didn't really notice anything from the 1st film being used in this.
