THE AVENGERS Looks Set To Break ANOTHER Record After IMAX Theatres Run Out Of Seats

Following the news that the Joss Whedon helmed Marvel Studios movie is on track for the highest opening weekend ever with a whopping $200.3 million, it has now been revealed that IMAX theatres across North America ended up running out of seats due to high demand!

IMAX grossed more than $21.1M this weekend, bringing the total for Marvel's The Avengers screenings in that format to approximately $31.2M worldwide. $6.1M of that was from international locations (an extremely impressive figure considering the fact that the film is now in its second week of release overseas) and $1.1M of that was from China alone. However, there was a slight problem (well, for moviegoers that is) in North America this weekend as IMAX ended up running out of seats to sell! The superhero ensemble grossed $15M from 275 domestic screens and this puts it at either the same or perhaps slightly more than the figure made by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 last year. So, there's ANOTHER record for Marvel to brag about! Many thanks to Deadline for the figures above. In addition, listed below are some more of the records broken by The Avengers this weekend.

International figures for The Avengers so far in key territories are: UK $48.1M, Mexico $40.2M, Australia $32.2M, Korea $31.3M, Brazil $31.0M, France $26.4M, Italy $18.8M, Germany $18.3M, Russia $17.9M, China $17.4M, Spain $14.4M, Taiwan $14.3M, Philippines $11.5M.

STARRING:

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America
Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man
Chris Hemsworth as Thor
Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye
Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Ramanoff/Black Widow
Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson
Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill
Tom Hiddleston as Loki

RELEASE DATE: Out Now!

@alucard I don't think they are too worried, TDKR will make money, I am sure Supes will too, so it isn't like the Avengers makes money their movies won't. However do I believe they have seen this success and it has them thinking, of course. It will be just figuring out their formula, taking what worked and what didn't from the Marvel system. One thing to learn is how Marvrl rebooted TIH from Hulk I think that is the way to go with GL, but I don't know call the sequel Emrald Knights: Sinestro War part 1 - You know to distant it away from its first outing.

@iLoveMarvelAndDC @clogan

Disney should buy the rights to F4. It be extremely worth it. F4 has immense potential for animation, merchandise, and for feature films for Disney. It's Marvel's First Family after all.

I remember reading about Disney doing big things with F4 if they ever got it back. It was the franchise they were most interested in. F4 would have the largest Disney influence, creatively. And that's perfect for F4.

Nice. I think TDKR will shatter the IMAX record for ticket sales simply because it has over an hour of REAL IMAX footage.

What I hope know though is Marvel's solo films are now exactly that. Yeah keep the after credits scene, build up the Thanos character, but from IM2 onwards I felt like I was watching commercials for the Avengers rather than Thor or TFA. Keep Thor on Asgard for sequel Marvel had the potential for a Lord of the Rings style epic with Thor, but what we got reminded me too much of the He-Man movie.
