During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return. Based on a best-selling novel, and helmed by master director Ridley Scott, THE MARTIAN features a star studded cast that includes Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Donald Glover.

The marketing for this movie is amazing. Makes it feel real.

I admit that 40% of the books I read have either been announced as movie adaptations, or are already wrapped and soon to be released.

I figure if it's good enough to adapt, it's good enough to read the original source material.

I only read THE MARTIAN a couple of weeks ago, and I found myself smiling, laughing, gasping, and cheering for the hero as I would for a good movie.

Only thing I dislike and don't understand about this movie is the fact that for some reason they cast a Norwegian for the role of the German scientist. Why not, idk, cast a German actor?

Aside from that this movie looks good, and satisfyingly close to the book! :)

It looks like a good move but it has nothing to do with comic books.

@California Neither does Jurassic World, Star Trek, Ghostbusters, Mission Impossible, Fast and Furious, the Bourne movies, Transformers, The Hunger Games, Doctor Who, or Game of Thrones...but all of those have been covered extensively by this site. Hell, the last two aren't even MOVIES, let alone comic book movies.

My point? Just because the name of the site is ComicBookMovie.com, doesn't mean it only covers comic book movies, or comic book related stuff.

Though in this case, I believe having so many actors/actresses who have portrayed characters in CBMs is part of the reason why The Martian is being covered here. But again, the main focus of the site might be CBMs, but that's never stopped them from covering whatever they've wanted to. As it should be.

REVIEW:
"The Martian does Interstellar better than Interstellar did Interstellar!"

"...we tend to cover as much as we can as per the guidelines we are given. Think it's only beneficial to the site to cover as much as we can."

@KingPatel And that makes perfect sense! Heck, I didn't even have to read the "About Us" page to come to that conclusion. It's quite obvious. But yeah, those types of "Why are you covering this movie!" comments are definitely a pet peeve of mine too...and I don't even write for this site haha. I can only imagine how annoying that is for you editors.

book was so good. i was surprised at how funny it was. i literally cry-laughed several times. it's really tech-heavy, though. so, if that's not your thing, it may not be a book for you. they get VERY specific at times. but i enjoy that kind of stuff. fantastic read. if you haven't checked it out, do yourself a favor and read it. excellent book, and a pretty fast read. i finished it in a day, and had a hard time putting it down to do menial tasks like eating XD the movie has an outstanding cast, and looks to be very faithful to the novel. very much looking forward to this.
