Why we should give Fantastic Four a chance

Fantastic Four a forgotten movie that is going to hit theaters very soon, I'll share my thoughts on why we should hold our judgement.

Fantastic Four will be released 7th of August this year, and frankly nobody seems to care about this movie. And that got me thinking, why wouldn't anyone be pumped about one of the most Iconic Super-hero teams in CBM history brought to screen?

When Fox announced that they were rebooting Fanstic Four there was a lot of mixed reactions, many people were against it due to not belonging in the MCU but instead with the X-men.
Even more people were dropping their enthusiasm when the leading cast members were announced.

I am the first one to admit that an african-american actor for the role of Johhny Storm was wrong. Not because I he is a black person but because Johnny Storm is an Iconic super-hero, loved by many fans, and if we're honest the only good thing from the original 2 movies.
I think Fox should have created another character for the Human-Torch if they had to use Michael B. Jordan for that role, in that way more people would be cool with it I think, but then you would get angry people saying that you can't have Fantastic Four without Johnny, so there is never pleasing everyone.
Don't get me wrong, I like Michael B. Jordan, he is a fine actor and a cool dude but he just isn't a good casting choice for Johnny Storm.

No I finally get to the point where I explain why I think this movie will be good.

The Director, Josh Trank:
He is a relatively unknown director and had some movies that were good and some that were awful.
That being said, I do think he is a good choice to direct this movie, he has a  good manner of telling a story through a movie and I think this will come in very handy in a CBM like this.
The movie is written by Simon Kinberg, I would call him the David Goyer of Fox, that means that he has some amazing story's and some that were very bad, I think that this with the direction of Trank will become a good draft.

My final thing to conclude my article is in this way:

Yep, Miles Teller
When they casted him as the leader of the Fantastic Four I reacted like most of you guys:

But then I saw him in Whiplash, and I was completly sold.
I had a moment of  realisation and gain my faith in this project again.
He is fit to lead this team, he is a quality actor he can go into depths with scenes like very few actors can.
I beleave that Reed will steal the show in this movie.

So to conclude my article:
I do think this movie will be a successful CBM, it will not break box-office records, but still I think it could gross 700 million world-wide.
That's not bad at all actually, but Box-Office results don't necessarily mean quality (Iron Man 3, Furious 7 ugh).
If I may specualate a number I think it will score a 7,5-8 at IMDB.

PS:
This is my first article.
If you have any advice for me please comment.

What do you mean give it a chance? It has a chance.
It's coming out in the summer and people will see it. It'll make money and it'll guarantee a sequel.

Even if it looks like crap to some people right now, if it gets good word of mouth those people will see it too.

Just don't expect skeptics to watch it if the consensus when it comes out is that it sucks.

If we're honest you'd point out one of the best things "from the first two movies" was the Silver Surfer.

This will be a true test for Teller

Whiplash was awesome because of J. K. Simmons, Teller was good in it but he has played drums all of his life so his role in Whiplash wasn't much of a stretch

@VictorMancha How dare you not refer to this movie by its actual title?! It's FANT4STIC!!!
Kidding... Seriously, though, good editorial. I'm trying to go into this movie cautiously optimistic. I like how little we've seen of it, and I really hope it turns out good. When spoilers started getting leaked from it, I figured it would be taking its cues from Ultimate Fantastic Four, which I began reading, and actually really like! Now, I hope like crazy they'll take their cues from Ultimate.

Uhhh...he's been credited for having directed one and only one film, Chronicle.
Which is why I'm excited since that's all I have to go off of - one really good flick.
As a director you're responsible for framing the narrative and getting the right performance out of your actors....I'm oversimplifying here. That is precisely what Trank did with Chronicle and I can't wait!

Anyways, good first try on an editorial.

The mere existence of this article isn't a good sign for the movie. I'm optimistic about this movie. It may well be surprisingly good. I just don't believe it can recover from a year of negative press. It has become the pariah of the CBM community. It will cover it's expenses and word of mouth may give it decent DVD/BluRay sales. I don't believe it will perform well enough to get a sequel.

I am excited and eager to see this film. I have accepted Marvel will not get the rights back, Doom will never be his Comic counterpart, and it's a new FF.

I like Trank's work, and I love his approach to this FF.

I love that they are explorers, they were basically explorers with super powers in the comics, and he is taking that angle. I also love the Fly influence, that has me excited.

I am also excited to see Toby Keith as Doom.

I have been supportive of this film since Trank was announced to be directing the film.

I know I should give this movie a chance and avoid judging it prematurely.

However, I am confident in the fact that this movie doesn't deserve it's title. Even if it turns out to be the best cbm of the year, I would never think of it as a Fantastic Four movie,

It's the same with the X-Movies. Most of them are brilliant movies, but they are X-Men in name only.

They try to add so much new and "edgy" stuff, but they ALWAYS neglect the stuff that made the original comics and their successors so darn amazing and popular. When the "new" stuff outweighs the charm and appeal of the comics, we get shitty CBM's. This is EXACTLY why movies like X3, MoS, and ASM are less than good, while films like Spider-Man 2 and The Dark Knight are still viewed as CBM classics today.

Of course, we also have the outliers, who are exceptions to this rule. Green Lantern is just about the most faithful DC movie (apart from Donner's Superman), and it still sucked. I think most of the recent MCU movies (everything after Avengers) occupy a sort of middle-ground, since they add plenty of fresh material whilst keeping the core of the characters intact. The results of this approach range from successful (TWS and GOTG) to OK (Age of Ultron) to outright stupid (IM3).

This is why my favorite MCU movies are the origin stories or "number ones". Marvel Studios were too worried about making faithful, modern, and appealing adaptations of former B-list and C-list characters to add weird new "spins" on everything. It makes me think that their recent blunders with the sequels come from their own arrogance.

Nevertheless, the MCU heroes remain awesome and well-defined for this generation.

Would you want kids all over the world thinking of this movie by Fox, when they hear the name "Fantastic Four"?

@dethpillow

I second that "schizo" reaction, that's a good way to put it

and I second that the FF is perfect for the MCU, I think there's a chance the rights can still come home or at least be shared. Hopefully Sony/Marvel standalone Spidey movie performs really well, I think that could send a message to Fox too, and maybe push them to share the rights

This film will be incredible. Teller was flawless in Whiplash and The Spectacular Now. Jordan was robbed of an Oscar nomination for his fantastic performance in Fruitvale Station, while Mara and Bell are both dope talents.

Say what you will about Trank, but after Days Of Future Past, I have an incredible amount of faith in Fox and their cinematic universe.

@EVERYONE ON THIS ARTICLE
IM fine with the casting of MBJ he was mindblowingly good in Fruitvale, but at first I was like why not make Sue black too? but whatever anyway, seeing as this wil be released in August; and seeing that August of last year was shitty besides GOTG this can go 1 or 2 ways
1 have a low imdb/rotten tomatoes score but gross between 300-400 million and do just enough to warrant a sequel for Fox
2 be a surprisingly good movie and gross between 500-600 million and have pretty good or rave reviews
You choose...

There is a small part of me that wants the movie to succeed and Jordan do well just to irritate fanboys. But, so far the only good thing I have seen in the trailers is Kate Mara as Sue. Trank changing Sue and Johnny into adopted brother and sister just because he felt like it is wrong, and arrogant as well. I don't really care much about "respecting" source material, as long as they keep the basic fundamentals of major characters. And yes, that includes ethnic background. Especially when it also includes a sister. (And yes, I think there is a difference between changing Perry White's ethnicity and Johnny Storm's.) Giving the X-Men black costumes instead of their ugly (yes, I said "ugly") comic uniforms is fine. So is having Tony Stark create Ultron instead of Pym in the MCU. Changing Johnny Storm's ethnicity or having Steve Rogers be from New Jersey instead of Brooklyn (just to give another example) is very wrong. So, frankly, my hope is that the movie bombs, so other writers/directors will know that some stuff just shouldn't be messed with.

Changing Johnny Storm's skin color to black is a big deal though. For one, Johnny Storm isn't black. I would have thought that was obvious. Although, strangely enough, it doesn't bother me when less important side characters have their race changed. I'm not sure why that is. Maybe because they aren't as important? I don't know.

But even when people say that skin color shouldn't matter for a lot characters, i can't really disagree because it is a valid argument. However, there are also a lot of characters where skin color absolutely matters. Black Panther. Luke Cage. Red Skull. Johnny Storm. Those guys just to name a few......WAIT A MINUTE! Did I just say Johnny Storm? Yes I did.

You see, Johnny Storm and Sue Storm are siblings by birth. Changing hisrace to black means that they are now either step-siblings, or adopted siblings. Now we're screwing with the F4's whole point of being a family, as well screwing with Sue Storm's history. I know its possible to still love an adopted family member or step sibling as much as any other family member. But i still feel like its losing something by not having them be blood related.

Unless Momma Storm gave birth to both kids from 2 different fathers. Has there been confirmation on that?

I don't know. Either way, it just bothers me when a characrer's race is changed for no real reason. It goes both ways too. I don't want any black actors playing white characters either. Their race should stay intact. Especially when the race change forces more changes onto the character, like their background.
