According to Deadline, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies pulled in $15.2 million on Friday, pushing its weekend estimate to $40.4 million. By the end of Sunday its domestic total could be $167.5 million. That's 19% better than The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug's first 12 days at the domestic box office, but a smidge less than "the $168.1M generated by 2012’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey over the same frame."

As for the newcomers: Angelina Jolie's Unbroken will finish in second place with $33.3 million for the 3-day weekend, Disney's Into The Woods will pull in $32.6 million for a strong third place finish and Mark Wahlberg's The Gambler will have to settle with $8.4 million, finishing in seventh place.

Also of note, Lionsgate's The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 became only the second film in 2014 to push past the $300 million domestic barrier. Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy ($332.7M) is the only other film to do so.

Some,body please tell me if The Hobbit part 3 is actually worth seeing in theaters. If not, I'm gonna stream it online. I fell asleep in the theater both times for the first two installments.

Wow! Is there anything "story wise" that comes after The Lord of the Rings Trilogy?

@bas the hobbit is a cinema movie. You need to see it in theatres to really appreciate the spectacle. Its is extremely fast paced and action packed. A fitting finale to the series

@TheRationalNerd

There is The Children of Húrin and The Silmarillion. I don't know the timeline on them.

Good, Into The Woods and The Gambler looked dreadful while Unbroken was obvious Oscar bait that failed.

Go you filthy Hobbitses!

@TronVin

Children of the Hurin is before Hobbit and Lord of the Rings in the timeline. I am probably wrong but I believe it takes place in the first age back when Elves were the more dominate power in Middle Earth and humans were mostly smaller kingdoms of course it has been years since I read that book. The Simarillion is a collection of stories most of which predate the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings I have never read that book.

Hobbit 3 was ok, certainly better than DOS. Saw Big Eyes recently, that was great, especially the performances. Hope to see Imitation Game before New Years

Saw it yesterday, the theater was completely packed. It was a good movie but I thought that the end battle was overly long, which was weird for me because I'm the kind of guy who usually enjoys a lot of action. It could have used less time with the battle and more time with Gandalf and Dol Guldur.

Finally got to see it yesterday. The HFR really takes away much of the magic for me...enjoyed it, though. I'll likely see it #OneLastTime but in 2D.

This was a terrible movie. They only had enough material for a film 1/4th the length, but stretched it to 2 1/2 hours anyway. Peter Jackson simply refused to end scenes in an appropriate amount of time. It becomes unbearable.

It's OK at best, nothing special.

@Bucky cap I know right the movie was based on 50 pages at max from the book. They had so much leg room to make a good movie and they totally dropped the ball on this. What about the woodland elves absolutely pathetic.
