Check Out The Official Title Card For Toho’s GODZILLA Reboot Now Entitled, “Godzilla Resurgence”

After the release of Legendary’s Godzilla, Toho decided to create another Godzilla film, seemingly to show that their version of Godzilla was the “true” incarnation. Thanks to a recent report, we now have the film’s official English title, and its title card that’s sure to cause controversy...

“The time has come to make a film that will not bow down to the Hollywood film.”
–Toho after announcing their reboot film.

After the release and the success of Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla, it was announced that Toho was developing their first Godzilla film in over a decade! The film was given the title “Shin Godzilla,” which translates to ‘new Godzilla’ and/or ‘true Godzilla’. About a month later, Hideaki Anno was hired to direct and the film was set for a 2016 release date.

Here’s where it gets good. The official English title for the film has been revealed to be “Godzilla Resurgence”. Pretty cool, right? However, if you take a look at the promo poster to the right – which reveals the official title card - you’d notice that it’s labeled with the text, “The 29th Godzilla Film.”

If I counted correctly, I’m pretty sure there has been 31 Godzilla films made since the release of the first film in 1954. And based on the things that have taken place so far, it seems as if Toho is blatantly ignoring the creations of the 1998 Godzilla film (which received lots of hate from the critics), and Gareth Edwards’ action-packed 2014 Godzilla film that received a great reception from the critics and the fans.

With that said, this leads us to wonder if Toho is presenting a challenge to the Godzilla films made in Hollywood, or are they just representing Toho-produced films and no other! While the latter of the two is most likely the case, it’ll still be interesting to see how Toho’s reboot film does compared to Legendary’s Godzilla 2, which is slated to hit theaters in 2018.

What do you think about the official title and its title card? Do you think that competition between the two studios will start in the near future? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!

Not only dissing Roland Emmerich's Godzilla film by not counting it (fair enough) but also blatantly stealing the subtitle of Emmerich's Independence Day sequel?

Dick move, Toho, dick move. lol.

Of course Japanese are pissed they take everything from every where and try to make it better than what it was they pride themselves on it.

So yeah Gareth ticked them off by actually making a good movie unlike the 98 version. They probably thought it was going to stink.

But good for them for taking it serious the fans win either way and nothing is wrong with some good competition; they probably enjoy that too.

Bring it on!

They should add Gusto in the mix as well to make it interesting.

Why would they represent films that they have nothing to do with?
