Conan 2 Gets a Green Light

Conan 2 Gets a Green Light

Conan the Barbarian producer, Avi Lerner, has stated that Conan 2 is already in development.

He also mentions that the upcoming movie Red Sonja will be filmed in between Conan and Conan 2.

“We didn’t want to start it until we’d finished Conan,” he tells us, but with confidence in Marcus Nispel’s revivified warrior growing, and a sequel already in development, Lerner reveals that “We will definitely shoot Red Sonja in between Conan and Conan 2.”

That is going off the fact if the first Conan remake does very well in the box office, but nonetheless it would appear the sequel has been green lit for the time being. Then again, Dragonball 2 was green lit before that movie released as well, and look how good that turned out.

The trailer for Conan the Barbarian is expected to release sometime in April.

I think people are confused about what greenlit and a greenlight means.

Being "Greenlit" isn't the same thing as developing, or writing, or talking about doing a movie.

A "Greenlight" is the point at which a potential film's budget has been approved, and the OK is given for preproduction (the stage at which most of the hiring and designing and set-building is for a film is done) and into production (the point at which a movie actually starts filming.)

In this instance, the film doesn't actually sound "greenlit", it's just being discussed as a possibility.

they're talking about a possible sequel before the first one is already out? way too much confidence eh? one thing I agree though, we need a red sonja movie that we've been promised a few years back.

They have some pretty big balls talking about sequels. Jason Momoa is a bad joke as Conan. It will flop hard as a gold fish on a hot sidewalk. Only sequel will be straight to DVD.

@NeoBaggins Yeah man...he's got big shoes to fill that's for sure. Arny is a dickhead nowadays, but he OWNED Conan. That's like remaking "The Road Warrior" or "The Good the Bad and the Ugly". If he was a more important actor, ie Jeff Bridges in "True Grit", he might have a chance, but otherwise...good luck with that one Momoa.

superpooper, it just shows you how disrespectful they are when it comes to these films. But really, it's the "fans". They don't care how the films are handled and will applaud ANYTHING. That's why they keep making shitty movies. They can toss out garbage and people will pay to see it.

The funny thing is...

I'm looking forward to this a billion times more than X-MEN: FIST A$$...

Never thought I'd say that as wasn't looking forward to this but I hope it makes tons of money, more than X-men and has many sequels!

Still think RED SONJA should be in it tho!

As for X-MEN, up aboves is fantastic, obviously with a younger cast of course! : P

(Bar ANGEL, just different actor)

Awesome work @ THEWITNESS! ; )

Conan rules.

However I must say there should not be articles about Rose McGowan taking 6 hours to put on make-up but rather articles on her taking 6 seconds to take off her clothes.

Hope she contributes to the T&A in this movie.

No one who knows anything about Conan and/or saw the original film is going to see this crap. The casting is unbelievable. I thought Chris Evans as Cap was bad, or Ryan get-these-pants-off-and-fly-some-planes Reynolds was bad. But this is ridiculous. The skinny dude from stargate, Conan? With dreads? Get the [frick] outta here.

NeoBaggins, would you rather just the movie try to emulate Arnold's Conan? So you can compare it to how much Conan doesn't act like Arnold, or as big as Arnold, why would you want a remake?

Re-imagining is the best bet for this movie, also, this Conan obviously does not have dreads, he's smaller than Arnold, but this guy has the right build for the original creation of Conan. When Conan was first created Howard never gave an exact description on his appearance (height or weight) but did compare him to another of his characters making Conan about 6'1 200+lbs, this guy is 6'4 and more than 200lbs. He's a keeper, and I'm looking forward to a well acted Conan movie.

Mind you I love the original movies as well.

NeoBaggins@ It appears you know nothing about Conan as well. Arnold was a terrible Conan if you know how Howard penned the character. Conan wasn't a big sluggish oaf. The original film was nothing like Howard's world. This film is based on Howard's world and we will finally see a Conan who is lithe, agile and muscular like he was written to be. Skinny? Funny... Most guys would give their left nut to be built like Momoa. Yes, he doesn't have the large bulk that Arnold had, but his is still very muscular and his speed, agility and sword skills are going to make Arnold look like a slow-motion powder puff. I won't say that Momoa is a great actor, but he can act circles around Arnold and I certainly haven't seen any images of dreads in any of the images released.

Yeah Arnold was so good that they had so little dialogue for him because his acting was horrendous, casting him because of his size was the thing to do in the 80's. Don't get me wrong I loved the movie but I can stand for something with a little more substance than an 80's action flick.

@ felixxx -- The term is Medieval, not midevil, and it refers to a specific period in time in recorded history, from the 5th century to the 15th (so basically it ended just over 500 years ago). Conan takes place in a mythical time, 10,000 years ago (that's 100 centuries), BEFORE recorded history.

And there won't be a good Conan movie until they actually adapt a Robert E Howard story and depict the character he created, instead of just making genering revenge movies in order to give the character an "arc".

I hope Mamoa Does good. Honestly a Mid Point between Arnold and Mamoa would make the perfect Conan. I still hope this movie is great!

Intruder@ Momoa looks a helluva a lot more like Howards' Conan than Arnold with his fake wig did. I suggest you check out the internal illustrations in his books and you will see Momoa-like features much more than Arnold-like features. I do agree with Messenger in as much of having a build between Momoa and Arnold, but Momoa looks more the part overall and I would rather go with a somewhat leaner Conan who has incredible fighting skills over a larger Conan who can hardly move.

Stumblin, why would I want a remake? I don't remember saying I wanted a remake or that I wanted the actor to copy Arnold. Weird that you assumed so much from that. Anyway, yes, re-imagining the character from a fresh point of view is good. However, a re-imagining doesn't automatically make it good because it's drastically different. *cough* Spider-man reboot *cough*. The guy doesn't embody any quality of Conan- at all. When I first heard about the casting I could only conclude that it wasn't a serious production. Usually when a sitcom and TV series actors is cast as a lead in a film, it's usually pretty low budget and C-LIST all around. And no, he doesn't have dreads for this. I saw a picture of him as Conan recently. He looks ridiculous, but no dreads to compound the debacle. That's my take on it. I know that having a different opinion around here is forbidden, but that's how I feel about it. After this, I think Conan will never have a shot at a decent comeback to film.

Smells like low budget versions of the following.
Scorpion King
Prince of Persia
The Mummy 3
Clash of the Titans

NeoBaggins@ I'm not sure what you are basing your comment "The guy doesn't embody any quality of Conan-at all" on. Based on the images we have seen from the movie, he looks like the Conan that is illustrated in Howard's books and the only thing he may be lacking in is a little extra mass, but that is not an issue to me as a Howard fan as the important attributes of agility, sword-handling skills and being a ferocious fighter are all more important than looking like the Conan that Arnold was. Different strokes for different folks but having grown up reading all of Howard's books years ago, I am ecstatic about the direction they are taking with Momoa and this film. To each their own.

What's weird that I assumed you wanted a remake? Your previous comment "...who knows anything about Conan and/or saw the original film is going to see this crap." when really the older movies had even less to do with the actual stories about Conan and his appearance, he's supposed to be agile, much like a Panther as well as powerful.

I first heard about this guy being Conan, yeah I wasn't a fan at first, but seeing more it definitely grew on me!
NeoBaggins
NeoBaggins - 2/25/2011, 7:23 PM
Ranger14 To each his own should go without saying and should be practice as well as preached. After all, I didn't make an opinion on someones opinion. I made my opinion on the film and had my opinion challenged (the norm here). If you are "ecstatic" about where the film is going, good for you.

stumblin You weren't a fan of Momosa being Conan at first but it grew on you. I don't know if you thought about this but, some people who didn't think he was good for that part... get ready... still don't think he's good for the part. The part where it grows on me has yet to happen.

But I can sincerely say that I can't wait for this. Eventually people will stop going to see cheap thrown together garbage and companies will have to start producing quality films.
