"She’s slightly reckless and totally ruthless and doesn’t hesitate to kill," Evangeline Lilly said of her role as elf warrior Tauriel in this December's The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. "Tauriel is the head of the Elven Guard. She’s a Sylvan Elf, which means she’s of a much lower order than the elves we all became acquainted with in The Lord of the Rings. She doesn’t hold the same kind of status that Arwen or Galadriel or Elrond or Legolas do — she’s much more lowly. She sort of goes against the social order of the elves a little bit." For those of you racking your brains or flicking through your copies of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, Tauriel is in fact a brand new creation for the movie. However, we will get to see her relationship with an already established character - Orlando Bloom's Legolas - explored. "Tauriel’s relationship with Legolas is significant. They’ve known each other since they were children, and Legolas’ dad, [Elven king] Thrandruil, has a soft spot for Tauriel and sees something very special in her." For more on her love story in the movie and to hear what Lilly thinks about playing a newly created character in the big screen adaptation of the beloved novel, be sure to click on the link at the bottom of the page.

I must say i really liked first "Hobbit" movie ...
despite all it's flaws. It's definitely better than part 3, for sure.

some really cool scenes. Dwarf's Kingdom, Gollum's Riddles.
Saruman was one hell of a liar :)

She looks great, but what about her size ? aren't elfs supposed to be tall ? Cause' she really isn't in real life.

@blackagar94

If they can make people acting as Hobbits and Dwarfs look 2 ft tall, I'm sure they can make her appear much taller than they.

Think about it..

Even though she's not a 'true' character I ain't bothered,I still have the books and I'm used to PJ mixing it up(took some getting used to though for this Rings fan of 30+ years.
I'm sure she will be fine....looks a peach too.

God, for a guy that supposedly loves the books, Peter Jackson sure does like to [frick] with the source material. So now we have a new possible love interest for Legolas who isn't even in the [frick]ing book. Nice. I really enjoyed the first 3 movies, but The Hobbit wasn't The Hobbit that i grew up reading and loving, it's nothing but a money grab at this point.

Personally i like the movies more than the books and that never happens. F#@k the books and the source material in this case and make three kickass movies.

Yeah...she does look like Link.

Hey,I was watching tv late at night..that's all. Insomnia.

@valeriesghost...dude, these movies are all about the money now, I lost all hope in this "threequel" when Jackson decided to make more than two Hobbit movies.
That being said, I do love Evangeline Lilly, but yeah, nobody gives a shit about Legolas' love life...which is non-existant.

All schwings aside though, I really hope they don't try to make her a major character and love interest for Legolas. I don't mind them adding characters to flesh certain parts out, or to add more tension to certain parts (eg Haldir in LOTR), but hopefully she doesn't play a huge part in the narrative.

But who am I kidding, we all know she's going to be a love interest and then die in the Battle of Five Armies.

Really didn't like the 1st Hobbit movie. The flaws outweigh any good parts like the Riddles in the Dark scene (which could've been much better). I'd prefer Jackson to stay faithful to the book, but I'm not such a purist that I'm against bringing in new characters such as Tauriel. I was completely against Azog being such a big character when he's already dead in the book, but I can appreciate what they're doing with Tauriel. Should've left Evangeline Lilly as a brunette though.

i'm with jackson on this one. the hobbit was barely a novella and written so early in his world-building process that it leaves all KINDS of room for embellishment. jackson's camped it up a little to make it more fabley like the book was, but if he wants to make any pretense of it belonging to the same world as his LOTR it HAS to be fleshed out with more characters. he hadn't created legolas yet when he wrote it, but if elves are essentially immortal it would be idiotic to leave him out of the hobbit. what is he, on vacation? in the loo? stupid. he HAS to appear, and there need to be other new characters as well. if he only used characters from the original text ME would be mighty empty.

Moaners can suck it, characters have to be made up to dramatize the collection of stories from the book into a decent film. The Hobbit is written from only Bilbo's perspective and his journey. You may play video games that way but you can't tell an entire movie like that.

@Ceejay, How mature of you. Plenty of movies are written and told in the first person and you can tell a good story that way. The problem with this is that this character is not needed. There is plenty of story to tell and by adding her it will come at the coast of fleshing out a character who is actually in the book. So for the first movie he followed the book very closely, (yes there were a few changes like adding some appendices and expanding Radaghast) but adding a character just to have a "female warrior" sounds a bit desperate. Very weak reason. There were no "strong female characters" in the first one and my wife loved it and she is a non-geek.
