HARRY POTTER Author Defends Trans Community Comments In THE WITCH TRIALS OF J.K. ROWLING Podcast

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has been a figure of controversy ever since she espoused views that were deemed to be transphobic over three years ago, and the backlash has only increased, with many accusing the writer of "ruining" the franchise she played such an integral part in creating with her comments.

Several Harry Potter cast members have denounced Rowling's views (though some have also come to her defence), but in an upcoming podcast, The Witch Trials of J.K. Rowling, host Megan Phelps-Roper will give Rowling the opportunity to respond to her critics and (potentially) set the record straight.

"What has interested me over the last 10 years, certainly in the last two, three years, particularly on social media [people have said], 'You've ruined your legacy.' 'Oh, you could've been beloved forever, but you chose to say this,'" Rowling says in the trailer. "And I think you could not have misunderstood me more profoundly."

"I never set out to upset anyone," she adds. " [But] I was not uncomfortable with getting off my pedestal."

Clearly not!

Whether you happen to feel Rowling has been unjustly targeted or not, there's no denying that her refusal to move on from the subject has led to an increase in anti-trans sentiment on social media, so it will be interesting to hear how she responds.

Check out the audio trailer for yourselves here.

The Witch Trials of J.K. Rowling will be available to stream starting Feb. 21.

@micvalpro - Lately it feels like tabloids, and anything that they know is going to rile up THAT part of their community now. It hasn’t been so fun being on here as of late, or being a place to just genuinely talk about the things we all claim to be fans of.

"Her refusal to move on from the subject"

Gee, I wonder why she won't move on from the subject. Could it have anything to do with people continuously slandering her name and calling for boycotts on anything associated with Harry Potter (including a game she had nothing to do with creatively)?

@Origame - i think its because people wont stop asking her and journalists are instigating. its stupid to boycott or burn her books when she no matter what makes money off of anything bought from this ip. Its stupid for her to apologize if she doesnt mean it and she shouldnt have to.

Didnt steve ditko and jack kirby agree with communist ideals too during their time? Doesnt mean anymore characters or stories they were involved in were any worst.

@mastakilla39 - Ditko used his beliefs in Objectivism to create characters like The Question and Mr. A but Objectivism is far from a communist ideal, it may have been developed by a Russian-American phliosopher but it wasn't related to communism.

According to Ayn Rand, the description is, "the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute".

It's actually a popular belief among many American liberal and even conservatives.

@FilmGuy7878 - Objectivism is far closer to libertarianism or anarchism than it is to communism.

@mountainman - That's what I'm saying, man.

@FilmGuy7878 - Although, as someone who’s interested in the ideas of anarchism, some of the 1800’s Russian anarchists were also communists. Wild.
