"Oz The Great and Powerful" imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

Yeah, I also recognized Elfman's being the composer as immediately as I regretted not seeing the movie in 3D, even since the opening credits sequence began. I'm not a big fan of 3D myself, but this one seems to be meant for the format, and I believe that it would look a lot more brilliant in it.

Huh, I thought I read that Danny Elfman refused to work with Sam Raimi again after Spider-Man 2....

Well I'm glad they both grew up enough to work together again.

Sam forced Danny to do the same rote themes from the first score with no new twists.

I hope Sam realized his folly.

^ Not really. Elfman collaborated with composer Chris Young, mainly to incorporate themes and motifs from the first 2, but refused to work with Raimni for any amount.

Was an enjoyable movie. my only gripes.

Franco is pretty 1 dimensional acting wise.... and it sort of showed here.
as hot as mila kunis is...and her acting isnt horrible... i found myself saying "Shut up Meg" in the theatre...

I really enjoyed this movie. Definitely see it, if you haven't already. I think the only misstep was casting Mila Kunis as one of the wicked withces (and if you think that's a spoiler, you HAVE been under a rock). She actually wasn't terrible, but hearing that voice try to be evil doesn't quite work for me. I don't know why.

The opneing was really cool. But I have to wonder, how much more money did they spend on doing that in CG as opposed to old school style (or would old school style have been more expensive)? And I agree with others here, all you have to hear is the first few notes of the score and you immediately know it's Elfman. He did a good job on this though.

I didn't like this film, the trailer made the visuals look better than they were, Francos over acting wasn't good, Kunis was cast badly and it was pretty predictible, I liked Michelle Williams as Glinda and I liked sourpuss that was about it. I like all the actors/actresses that were in the film I just think on the most part they were cast horribly.
