PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS: New Trailer Unites Three Demigods For An Epic Adventure

As we first reported on SFFGazette.com earlier today, Disney+ has just released the official trailer for the upcoming original series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

In the week leading up to the trailer's debut, fans were teased with Easter Eggs across the show's official social media handles, all to increase excitement and speculation across the fandom. In this latest sneak peek, Percy (Walker Scobell), Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) and Grover (Aryan Simhadri) are put to the test on their adventure to restore order at Mount Olympus and save the world.

Everything shown here suggests we'll see a far more faithful adaptation of the books than the divisive movies starring Logan Lerman. There's also heaps of action and even a first look at the scene where Percy is given his mission by Camp Halfblood's Mr. Brunner, a.k.a. Chiron.

"Percy Jackson, your father needs your help," he tells the teenage demigod. "The master bolt has been stolen. If you don’t return the bolt, there will be war. That is your quest. I know it sounds daunting, but you won’t be alone. A quest is always undertaken by three."

Enter his newfound pals, Annabeth and Grover!

Author Rick Riordan - whose Percy Jackson books have sold more than 100 million copies worldwide - worked closely with the creative team and showrunners Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz to bring his books to life and deliver a series that stays true to his vision for these heroic characters that millions of book fans know and love.

The first two episodes of Percy Jackson and the Olympians were written by Riordan and Steinberg and directed by James Bobin. You can watch the new trailer in the players below.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians tells the fantastical story of a 12-year-old modern demigod, Percy Jackson, who's just coming to terms with his newfound divine powers when the sky god, Zeus, accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. With help from his friends Grover and Annabeth, Percy must embark on an adventure of a lifetime to find it and restore order to Olympus.

The series stars Walker Scobell (Percy Jackson), Leah Sava Jeffries (Annabeth Chase), Aryan Simhadri (Grover Underwood).

Notable guest stars include Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hermes), Megan Mullally (Alecto aka Mrs. Dodds), Toby Stephens (Poseidon), Virginia Kull (Sally Jackson), Jason Mantzoukas (Dionysus aka Mr. D), Jay Duplass (Hades), Glynn Turman (Chiron aka Mr. Brunner).

We'll also see the late Lance Reddick (Zeus), Adam Copeland (Ares), Charlie Bushnell (Luke Castellan), Dior Goodjohn (Clarisse La Rue),  Jessica Parker Kennedy (Medusa), Olivea Morton (Nancy Bobofit), Suzanne Cryer (Echidna), Timm Sharp (Gabe Ugliano), and Timothy Omundson (Hephaestus).

Percy Jackson and the Olympians hits Disney+ on December 20 with a two-episode premiere.

The movies were garbage, but this looks so good. I am cautiously optimistic.

@tBHzHomer - I dunno. I thought the movie's (more the 1st one) was entertaining enough. I know it's the same story but it really doesn't look like its treading any new ground here either.

I will say though i was pleasantly suprised by the Willow series (RIP) on D+ so may check it.

Off topic, His Dark Materials was a pretty good series possibly aimed at the same target audience. If it can match that, then I'm on board, though i understand the works are different.

@tBHzHomer - Yeah, but no Daddario running no dice. I'm...mostly kidding

@The1st - I'm not, No Daddario or another of her "type" and I'm out. I never read the books but I like fantasy so gave the 1st one a chance and really enjoyed it. I like the 2nd too. I'm not claiming they are good movies though. I don't see anything about this new show that has sold me on it. It looks like a Disney channel show for little kids.

Wonder what happened to Netflix rebooting Narnia

The His Dark Materials show redeemed that franchise after a bad adaption that was attempting to ride harry potter and lord of the ring's coat tales

Will this do the same for this series (didn't watch the movies or read the books), probably wont watch the show unless im around when someone else is watching it, if that happens and I like what I see then id probably give it a shot

One failed early 2000's book adaption I think would be nice to see rebooted is The City Of Ember

@dracula - Narnia is still happening. Greta Gerwig is attached. Not sure what to think of that.

@Drace24 - If Netflix screws up there is always the BBC versions of the first four books to fall back on which (for TV) were decent (great for their time even) but be nice to have them all adapted well in one long run with the benefit of current tech to realy bring it to life fully (80's British budget restraints show in those old Beeb series')

@Apophis71 - I love the first two Disney movies so much. Total must watch every year around christmas.

@Drace24 - Yup, first two films were solid even if not entirely direct adaptions of the books, know they changed/left out a lot but they were good films regardless of that.

@Apophis71 - Never actually read the books. I need to do that at some point. I just know, on its own, the first movie is the best Christmas movie ever! And Caspian is a worthy successor. Holy shit those battle sequences! And the frickin music!

@Drace24 - Too long ago when I read them to be specific but the most noticeable changes with the second Disney film on was sticking with all the same Kids even in books some/all of them were never in but as I say can't be more specific than that. A bit like some of the other Oz films still having Dororthy in them kind of affair (when I think she was only in one of the books, tho tbf only read two of those).

YA isn’t really my thing, but I like ancient mythologies. My wife has a soft spot for the books so I imagine I’ll end up watching this with her.

I am gonna give it a shot.

Greek Gods character-wise that I'm looking forward are Poseidon since he's played by Toby Stephens (Black Sails and Netflix's Lost in Space), Medusa by Jessica Parker Kennedy (The Flash) and Edge as Ares.

Also the late Lance Reddick.
