Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Sails Past $800 Million Worldwide!

The latest film in the multi-billion franchise has shattered yet another international box office record, close to being the highest grossing of the series, but probably won't do as well domestically...

Even further proving that it will be one of the highest grossing films of the year, the latest POTC film, On Stranger Tides, has officially crossed the $800 million mark worldwide. It's right behind Dead Man's Chest in the list of the highest grossing of the franchise right now, but that could change any day now.

The Hollywood Reporter has the following to say about the feat...

The Johnny Depp tentpole, with total grosses of $807 million, is the biggest movie of the year, by far, and is on track to become the franchise’s most successful film internationally.

In only three weeks, On Stranger Tides has racked up foreign grosses of $614.9 million. By the end of this weekend, it should surpass the $654 million earned by threequel Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End at the international box office.

Unfortunately, predictions aren't very high on its final domestic gross (despite its being close to being the highest grossing 2011 flick domestically).

While On Stranger Tides is a runaway hit overseas, it’s likely to be the lowest grossing Pirates movie domestically, where it has earned $192.1 million to date. Box office observers believe the film will ultimately gross $230 million or $250 million, whereas the previous three titles all cumed north of $300 million.

another movie that points out that reviews don't effect box office numbers or the general audiences view. May be they do in some cases but it doesn't happen that often.

I think they will continue making these movies until Johnny Depp dies in the set filming a scene or something :P
