According to a new report, Disney has approached Academy Award-winning actress Brie Larson to take on the role of Snow White in the upcoming live-action spinoff Red Rose. Rather than retelling the classic tale, the movie will pick up shortly after Snow White bites the poisonous apple and falls into her "Sleeping Death." It's then her sister Rose teams up with the dwarves to find a way to break the curse.
It's an interesting approach to the property and one which should help keep things fresh as opposed to going over a story which has been told on the big screen countless times. It also gives the movie a strong female lead and means Snow White's fate is no longer down to the Handsome Prince.
No director is attached but the script was penned by Justin Merz (The Boxcar Children) before Evan Daugherty (Tomb Raider) shook things up by making it a "companion piece" to the original movie.
There's nothing to say Larson will sign on to star in Red Rose but she's obviously been working with Disney for a while now after landing the lead role in Captain Marvel. We'll just have to wait and see how things pan out but be sure to let us know your thoughts on this casting news in the usual place.
