THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY Blu-Ray Details Confirmed

While we saw the cover art for the Blu-Ray release of Peter Jackson's first Hobbit movie last week, we now have the release date and bonus features for the home release. Hit the jump for all the detail.

Despite receiving mixed reviews upon release (gaining a 65% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with 260 reviews), Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was still a big success. The first in a new Middle-earth trilogy from Warner Bros. has currently earned nearly $950M at the worldwide box office, and is expected to cross the $1 billion mark soon. Now, with The Desolation Of Smaug set for December 13th, 2013 and There And Back Again for July 18th, 2014, the studio has confirmed the Blu-Ray and DVD specs for An Unexpected Journey. I'll rent it when it comes out to watch it again (maybe a couple times) then wait for the inevitable Extended Edition.

@marvel72 no it wasn't. Movie stalled so many times to appease the fanboys. Didn't need the council scene, the wizard who was high the entire time didn't need to be in it and Practical > CGI sets. Gandalf saving everyone all the time got tiring too.

read the book, Gandalf saves them all the time in that too. Also, Radagast and the council scenes are building up for Gandalf's story in the next films.

Here's a spoiler for you though, The Grey Wizard won't be making any last minutes saves in the next film when it comes to the Dwarves.

@SoulAllFlush thank god. The film just felt bloated. And the villain was pretty meh and I understand he was just created for the film? Wish he was human under tons of makeup instead of being a CGI villain.

No, the 65% rating is about right. Way too CGI-heavy, too bloated and rambling, too over-the-top and ridiculously silly, too different from the book. This will be the first LOTR movie that I don't buy the extended edition. Not worth it.

Azog is in the book but in the appendix section of the LOTR, he did take over moria but died in the war officially.

Azog was killed by Dain in the Battle of Azanulbizar during the War of the Dwarves and Orcs. This happens prior to the The Hobbit (book version). His son, Bolg, leads the Orcs and Wargs in the Battle of the Five Armies which doesn't occur until the very end of the book. The movie was great despite the inconsistencies because i'm not such a lame fanboy that I can distinguish between the movies and films

Will definitely be getting this. I thought it was really good and an excellent addition to the LotR movies and I can't wait for the final two!

Wow. Those are some terrible extras. Remind me not to buy this and wait for the inevitiable trilogy set or whatever.

Does anyone know if we're actually getting extended versions though? I know everyone just assumes it because of LOTR, but I thought that we were basically already getting the extended versions since they're stuffing so much extra stuff back in that we're getting an entire extra movie.
