While an official release date was recently revealed, The Hollywood Reporter, has revealed official details on the story of Columbia's upcoming sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, as well as two new cast members joining the star Nicolas Cage.

THR says..."The story sees Johnny Blaze, aka Ghost Rider, hiding out in remote Eastern Europe and struggling to repress his curse. Blaze is recruited by a sect to take on the devil, who wants to take over his mortal son’s body on the boy’s birthday."

Irish actor Ciaran Hinds is in negotiations to join as the "devil" mentioned in the story details, while Italian actress-singer Violante Placido is also in talks to play the boy's mother.

Columbia will release the film in North America, and Hyde Park Entertainment has international distribution rights. And with a 3D release set for February 17, 2012, duo-directors Mark Neveldine & Brian Taylor are leaning toward a late-November start, with shooting scheduled for Romania and Turkey.

Nic Cage is not necessarily too old for the part. Johnny Blaze covers a wide range of ages.
Nicolas Cage however is, in my opinion, horribly miscast for the role regardless of what age he and the character he portrays is.

The original film was flawed enough as it was though. I just have serious doubts as to even the possibility of it being improved upon sufficiently with Cage in the title role.

Note that I actually like Cage, he is a fine actor in the right roles. I just don't feel that this is one of them, not for him.

Ciaran is an awesome actor who has some cool credentials. we can all check him out in the final part in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows as none other as Aberforth Dumbledore!!!!

Hinds is good choice as devil definitely! Im pretty sure that Placido is going to play vampire queen Lilith!

Only problem in this movie right now is Cage! They should have rebooted this movie! Josh Holloway as Blaze and maybe Henry Cavill as Ketch

ghost rider spirit of vengence-i'm not to sure what these actors are like.

as for the villian wouldn't it be better if it was one of these mephisto,blackheart,scarecrow,mr hyde,blackout or deathwatch like how they look in the comics.

morbius,blade or even the punisher could appear.

marvel get the rights back for this as well.

nic cage is a terrible choice for Blaze. just awful. and the first Ghost Rider movie was probably the worst modern CBM yet with the exception of Batman and Robin.

I'd gladly watch X3 and Spidey 3 over that flaming pile any day. what a mockery.

hopefully this one is better.

I really enjoyed the first one but am disappointed with the synopsis of this one. The whole "son" thing sounds stupid. There are other things to do with the character than have the devil and a son of his.

Uh... but isn't Mephisto the "devil"??? Why would they even call him "The Devil"??? Like he ain't got no name and shit. And i thought Black Heart was Mephisto's only son and actually died in the first film? Mind you i haven't read comics in a good long while... Or is this just another "devil" with another son??? That would... suck major ass actually. Oh and Fonda was HORRIBLE in the first film! Anyone can replace him. But i am dissapointed because Rutger Hauer would have been so much better of a replacement. Not saying Hinds sucks though.

I totally agree with CDB on the first film, i honestly can't decide which is worse between Ghost Rider and Elektra.

Back in the 70's Marvel frequently used "The Devil" or "Satan" but this has mostly been retconned into Mephesto or Zarathos, or whoever.

So now Danny Ketch is the son of Satan? Damien Hellstrom is going to be pissed.

Even if these two are good actors (not terribly familiar with them) the first movie had Peter Fonda and Sam Eliot, and it STILL SUCKED, so those crazy Crank guys had still better get a killer script and direct the hell out of it...or...into it!

I think the first movie screwed up by using a young Johnny Blaze that would have been perfect for the whole film, and then switch to Nic Cage.

And it is sad but true that right now he is the best part of this movie. And you're right I don't like the dude, because he can't act. You have your opinion, I have mine.

@AlexDeLarge666 - yeah, he could totally be Zarathos, but they might not care enough about comic book continuity to establish that.

Also, Rutger Hauer, Lance Henriksen, and Ian McShane would all be great candidates for Mephisto or another demon. I can' remember who suggested Henriksen originally.
