During this year's film festival Butt-Numb-a-Thon 14, some new footage was shown for some upcoming films. Among the new footage shown was some from Paramount Pictures' anticipated sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which was pushed from its prior June 29th release to a March 2013 debut to be converted to 3D. The recently announced 3D trailer, which will be released online on Wednesday, followed the much talked about mountain battle sequence in which Snake Eyes and Jinx jump off of a mountain and take on a bunch of ninjas. Below is Film.com's description of the footage shown, in which they praise the 3D conversion(!) and the trailer. You can click the source link to see what they had to say about other films debuting new footage, such as World War Z and Evil Dead.

It began in a hallway, with Storm Shadow throwing ninja stars at Snake Eyes. It looks pretty fabulous in 3-D (even post-converted 3-D) but not as fabulous as Snake Eyes shooting down the ninja stars with a machine gun.

The two fight in a hallway, then crash through a window. They are on a mountain top, at some sort of temple. Snake Eyes is joined by Jinx (I think that’s Jinx – who’s the one in the tight yellow suit? I’m not 13 years old anymore) and suddenly they are confronted by a bunch of baddies. They do what anyone would do: they jump off the mountain.

The killer moment is when they zip across cables up in the mountains, but not down them – they basically hook and jump like Spider-Man, pretty much how you played with your G.I. Joes as a kid. Then everybody swings around on the side of the mountain throwing swords at each other.

The trailer afterwards was terrific, too. The best is when Bruce Willis says to the Rock “I have something your size” and they cut to giant tank. Yay explosions.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation stars Dwayne Johnson, Channing Tatum, Bruce Willis, Adrianne Palicki, D.J. Cotrona, Ray Park, Byung-hun Lee and Ray Stevenson. The film is set to hit theaters March 29th, 2013.

Read about the Evil Dead footage screened at BNAT14....

They aen't playing around with the reboot, the scene was apparently seriously hardcore...

As for GI Joe 2...

I have reservations...

The first cut was good, it just needed a new ending. I really hope that they did not screw with the main storyline to add more Taters. I don't do 3d, so I really doubt that it will be worth the wait.

PLUSES=

-SNAKE EYES LOOKS BETTER AND NOT LIKE A HUGE RUBBER ACTION FIGURE, DID WE EVEN FIND OUT WHY A NINJA WOULD WEAR A CLAUSTROPHOBIC ALL RUBBER MUSCLED SUIT?

-COBRA COMMANDER HAS A BETTER MASK, I DON'T KNOW WTF THEY WERE THINKING WITH THAT SQUIDDY SEE THROUGH CRAPTASTIC MESS OF A MASK.

-INTRODUCING MORE FAMILIAR CHARACTERS WITHOUT CHANGING ETHNIC BACKGROUNDS: WAYANS...I REALLY DONT GET THAT CHOICE...AFTER IN LIVING COLOR AND ALL THE COMEDIES, I CAN'T FOR THE LIFE OF ME TAKE THAT DUDE SERIOUSLY. I KEEP SEEING HIM IN MY HEAD AS SOME WEED SMOKING GOOFBALL IN SCARY MOVIE SAYING, "WASSSAAAAAAAAP."

Jinx had a red suit...

What pisses me off about the whole Channing Tatum thing is that his inclusion/role rehash into this film is one of the reasons it got pushed back (we all know this), and now he's all saying he's not going to act for a year so he can try directing?

ugh...I just feel bad for the merchandise which has already been pushed onto the b-team aisle at the toystores.

Looks a lot better than the original. It actually looks like a G.I. Joe movie ought to.

Though, we don't want studios to get into bad habits, so I say go see the 2D version just to spite them.
