More Bad News For The Green Hornet

It looks like the 3D conversion process is a cover for much bigger issues.

Last week it was reported that The Green Hornet was getting pushed back to January, 2011 release in order to convert to 3D. By converting to 3D, the studio needed to avoid losing out on limited space of 3D theaters to Tron: Legacy and Yogi Bear (By the way, you did read that last movie title correctly). Sony has already had to defend the movie from comments made by studio insiders saying the movie was unreleasable.

Well, Hollywood Elsewhere (whose writer has worked for Entertainment Weekly and People, just to name a few) has more to add to the story from his inside source:

"Sony is not merely converting The Green Hornet into 3-D, but rewriting and reshooting sizable chunks of the movie. The action sequences don't cut together and [are saddled with comprehension issues]. This isn't a conversion -- it's an overhaul using 3-D as a smokescreen."

Studios have also referred to the movie as way too campy and Seth Rogen being horribly miscast for the role. It remains to be seen if this movie will ever see the big screen at this point.

Sad news to be sure, I was kind of looking forward to this; campy or otherwise.

yogi bear!? WTF! th'll make ANYTHING into a movie now-a-days..yogi bear..marmaduke,,where will it end?

as to the green hornet..I thought it was suppose to be "campy"..it will probably be a direct to DVD..I still want to see it though. I like ROGAN as a comedic actor, I really had high hopes for this one but, hey what can you do!

Well, here we go again. Studios casting main roles to actors who shouldn't get the part and because of it, ruining the entire film. I thought that Seth Rogen was always a BAD choice for from the beginning. Now we won't see The Hornet on the big screen because of it.

As soon as I heard he was Green Hornet I thought it was going to be a 100% comedy just like Macgruber or whatever the hell it's called. If they're actually trying to be serious in any way with this movie than it's 100% doomed for failure... I'm not always right, but I am never wrong. Write that down

I think this whole thing was more of Seth wanting to play GH and pushing the project, even though he's clearly not the best choice for the part.

You can't just cast someone based on their enthusiasm, and the fact that they want to play the part.

it's gonna flop...other than fanboys who's gonna watch it?...
NERO
NERO - 4/28/2010, 2:29 AM
I don't think even that many fanboys are going to see this, just due to the perceived lack of respect and super campiness we've been hearing the character has been treated with. I sense mega flop, and since this is really a Rogan vanity project it could really hurt his career.

I always assummed that this was gonna be an out-and-out comedy in a similar style to Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson being Starsky and Hutch.

Surely Sony must have thought the same as well. I am not sure how much I believe this 'insider' info. For Sony to turn around and say it is too campy doesn't seem very believable.

Plus the source material is all pulp fiction craziness anyway - it was never gonna be The Dark Knight!

SERIOUSLY, how hard is it to do a good GREEN HORNET movie???

[frick]ing HOLLYWOOD lol!

Hey, come and look at maybe a brand new pick (JEAN LUC-BILODEAU) that could possibly be a good PETER PARKER for playing in the new SPIDEY proposed reboot!

Can he hold up with the CBM.com favorites??

Mini POLL there too, in FEATURES >>>>>

Sony just needs to lock it in the vault never to be seen. Then we can all watch it when it is a bootleg in a few years.

You know what i think? The more bad news we get from this film, the more i think it will suck soooooo bad that it will actually become good LOL Kinda like the Toxic Avenger! :))

This is gonna become a must own straight to DVD spoof cbm comedy! Here's hoping it does cause otherwise, it's really not lifting my skirt at all.

Don't particularly care for Rogen's performances, as well, but this is all rumor. The director is Michel Gondry. Even if it isn't a blockbuster or fails outright, it'll definitely be weird and worth watching because of Gondry. It's possible he's doing a meta take on a poorly conceived big screen adaptation of a pulp super hero. It remains to be seen.

They need to never release it. Let it build up some urban legends and gossip about it, let it become mythical and then release it in 15 years and call it a lost gem. People will eat it up and it'll make millions just from the internet rumors/culture surrounding it.

wat about Evans?

I tell you one thing. I've been a proponent for 3d, but as far as Seth Rogen's Green Hornet goes - what the hell would it need 3d for? So we can see Seth's big fat stoned head popping out of the screen at us lol?

This is all speculation, but man it will hurt his career bad if it's true. What was the budget for this movie? most of that down the toilet...

@zippiesdrainage - that's probably a pretty good idea actually lol. Watch, it will become a trend! =P

@bullsize. - dude if you think Evans is ANYWHERE NEAR the level of "miscast" as [frick]ing Seth Rogen (for ANY superhero), you've been smokin' more chiba than him.

No, this sucks for Seth, how to walk away from this "Ishtar" with his career intact is what he's thinking.
Oh yeah lemme think...I know lets just cover bad film making with, 3-D?

Multi- "I lost faith in this film when Stephen Chow walked off from directing/starring"

Yeah it pretty much all fell apart from there. It's doomed. I don't get why they didn't try getting Donnie Yen on this though...

The Scooby-Doo movies must have "inspired" them

it's ALL about money for them

As far as Rogan's career is concerned, they should just scrap this movie. If it ever see's the light of day, he's going to get slaughtered. But then again, Alec Baldwin played The Shadow, and he somehow survived that debacle...

They bring people back to life everyday. No reason why this shouldnt have a new chance. i think we are all assuming way too much though. They could simply be lowering our expectations as a marketing ploy. Anyone ever play sim city? raise the taxes 20 points every one is say, lower them 5 afterword and everyone is happy! Well it could be this movie is actually really good but would rather people not expect anything special. Get ready to poo ur pants ladies and gentlemens.
