Now Green Lantern is probably one of the most mixed reviewed CBM ever. It pretty much breaks down into two groups: Those who hated it, and those you thought it wasn’t bad (but wouldn’t exactly classify as good). To me, it seemed to have a “Transformers 2” vibe, but with better acting (but that ain't saying much...) In this article, i' list three things what i think a Green Lantern film would need to have in order to be successful.

STAY. IN. SPACE.
A Green Lantern movie should have more of this:

And this:

And especially this:

Green Lantern is a SPACE hero. So keep him in SPACE!! And show more Lanterns please. My favorite character was Kilowog. Followed by Sinestro. Followed by Tomar-Re (seriously, Geoffery Rush was perfectly cast as him). I liked seeing the different alien races. MORE OF THAT!!

More Lanterns.
I’ve just mentioned this, but this is a huge point. It’s the Green Lantern Corps. Hey DC, you what corps means: group, squad, platoon. In other words: MORE THAN THREE OR FOUR!!!! Sure you had one scene where you saw the whole legion, but seriously, that’s it ???? Show us how each Lantern use their ring different from each others, how are their constructs different in strength, depending on the user and how creative are they used. I get that Hal was the main focus, but when his friend from Ferris Air, gets more screen time than Kilowog, something is messed up

Better Villains.
I’m gonna keep this quick.

A: Smart evil guys with freakish heads should never, ever, ever be a main villains.

B: Have we learned nothing from FF: Rise Of The Silver Surfer? Giant clouds should never, ever, ever, EVER be villains. They suck, look stupid, and they make no sense what so ever.

I mean seriously....Come on?!?!?!?

So that’s all of my critiques. I’m not extremely familiar with GL, so I couldn’t comment on whether Blake Lively was good as Carol, or if Ryan Reynolds was a good Hal (though I thought he was solid as a character).

What are your thoughts? Agree, disagree? COMMENT! LET ME KNOW! I MUST KNOW! :)

Until next time, EXCELSIOR!

I agree with BattlinMurdock. I actually enjoyed the movie. When i watch CBM's i go in as a guy who likes comic books, but wants to see something different. Every complaint a person uses for this move can only be backed up by people who actually read comics. Parallax is a cloud, mainstream doesn't know that. There's not enough Oa yea there isn't, but that would make it an even bigger risk putting to much in space because it would cost alot and what if the movie failed to deliver again and didn't make enough money as it cost to make it like John Carter. Just get a new director and writers and everything will be fine.

BattlinMurdock: I think that with the influx of superhero films, audiences would be interested in seeing a space movie instead of just a superhero movie in space. A space movie with characters with super powers would be even more interesting to me, personally. And i agree with you on Reynolds and Lively. I enjoyed Reynolds and thought Blake was fine. Thanks for the comment.

Jessepostal: :D I liked the aliens in GL, more than the Transformers, so that's why i picked GL. Thanks for the comment.

Marvel72: That would be awesome!! Thanks for commenting.

RedHood13:

1. I didn't know Parallax wasn't a cloud until i looked up his profile. I just don't like the thought of a the big bad villain being a cloud that can eat.
2. Most people felt the best part of Green Lantern were the space scenes. I think then more space, more likes. Thanks for commenting!

How to make a better Green Lantern movie, and also make Wonder Woman and Flash? Put Bruce Timm the film producer.

@ NBAfanaddict

just f*ckin with ya,everything on paper sounded perfect on the last green lantern movie.

but it turned out bad, staying in space would help a great deal & maybe get jj abrams to direct it.

mark strong should return as sinestro & get weta to do the cgi effects for the movie.

Yeah I agree with you but the bad villian thing won't be a problem for the sequel because it will be Sinestro and imagine this scene with him wearing a yellow ring and being alot longer! ;)

Screw all this this could of, should of, and would of. To make a good CBM this day in age, the story/script must be very dark/serious and the film has to have realistic graphics. Sorry to say that Green Lantern failed on both accounts. Some scenes were promising but it was cut short on the lameness that took over most of the film. I was so excited and pumped up to see GL for months before its release until I actually saw it that weekend. It seemed like they mostly cared about marketing GL merchandise to teenagers and children. They made a ton of mistakes because they were stubborn about getting everything right themselves. Among the the lame and disappointing things that stood out to me were the dull GL suits/costumes, the GL Corp aliens, the CGI/graphics, and the stupid script. I remember a scene of GL flying or gliding down in a fake manner towards the balcony before giving Carol that green necklace.

I feel like green lantern's director was trying to hard. I think ryan reynolds was a good hal jordan but most of the movie made was not right like them not properly training him, the villains and sinstro putting on the yellow ring for no reason. I liked hal friend was funny. But from them to have a great squeal hal should train hard good script and sinstro should be cast out

I'm a huge Green Lantern fan, and I do like the movie. Not as good as it could of been or what I was hoping for. The Extended cut is better. It adds more in the back story of Hal, but doesn't fix everything. I think the biggest problem with the movie was the tone and the pacing. When he was on OA, they seemed like they were in a rush to get him back. Instead of a day of training, maybe he should have been there for a month or two going through boot camp with some other new lanterns. I also wish they would have built the relationship up more between Hal and Sinestro. It would have been nice if the end battle was them fighting together. I don't think the movie needed them in space more. That wouldn't have fixed other issues. Ultimately I think the movie was rushed and from watching some of the unfinished deleted scenes I think things were cut from the movie just because they didn't have time to finish the effects.

how to make a better green lantern film? if the film was a bit more focused, it would of been a lot better. it was a jack of all trades film, a little romance, a little comedy, a little sci-fi, a little super herorics, a little elephant man..it had too much. I would of loved it if the entire film was set in space, less love story and more sci-fi greatness. hal diving into the deep end of the universe seeing things he can not understand or even explain would make an amazing story. a great sci-fi epic ala new hope. I would of also loved it if it was completely set on earth. a movie with hal getting the ring becomes a superhero for his city only to discover he is one of many green lanterns in the universe at the end of the film would of been awesome.

Angelus: Bruce Timmn should do all of the DC movies. Heck, let him do every superhero movie :D

jessepostal: It's cool dude! :D To each his own. I haven't seen GL recently, so my memory might be a little jacked up.

Levitikuz: Hopefully the sequel will be better. And yes i'm a huge NBA fan. Some of my favorite teams are the Nuggets, Clippers, and 76ers.

Jollem: Hehe. I wold tweak some things from the first. That's all.

Marvel72: Haha, i got you dude. J.J. Abrams would be sick as director.

CeltiC527: I'd pay extra just to watch that scene :)

Yellowlantern: Dark Knight was successful as a dark/serious movie, because Batman is a dark/serious character. One thing i wasn't really feeling about Amazing Spider-Man was the somber tone it took. Spidey is a pretty jovial guy, so the tone should fit his personality. Every CBM doesn't have to be dark. Every CBM needs to have an atmosphere that matches the characters.

Spidey23: Agreed. You made my point for me.

MCUFan1: That's a good point. I would've much preferred seeing Hal train more, than watch the earth scenes.

BarnaclePete: I think you hit the nail on the head. Pacing was a big issue. It seemed like DC was freaked out because of how many movies Marvel was putting out, and they decided they need to get one out quickly.

ellispart3: I like the earthbound idea! It's different, but i like it.

The GL movie was not as bad as I thought at first. The acting was adequate, the base story was adequate, the cgi/ special effects etc were adequate.

The problem was the script: the dialogue, at times, seemed like it was written for a twelve year old and was very annoying. The banter between GL and his love interest really bogged the film down - I just really couldn't give two flying sh-ts about them.

Also, the scary cloud villain WAS really really sucky.

I dont know whats your problem guys.
THE MOVIE WAS EXCELLENT !!! Good cool looking Hero
(white Eyes), Great superpower, Awesome story. Cool villain(yeah i liked Hector)very sick! All we need now is part 2. And than it can really begin. The movie for me is just as good as IRON MAN 1. Both were brilliant.

I liked the movie...but didn't love it. Just felt a little too cartoony. I think we need a new director and art director. Too bad someone as great as Peter Jackson wouldn't take it on.

Here's my list of things for filmmakers to do to make a better Green Lantern movie:

1) Don't cast Ryan Reynolds
2) Actually construct a mask rather make a shitty CG one
3) Don't kill your villain by punching him into the sun
4) Be consistent on how powerful this entity of fear is
5) Don't promise a sequel we're probably never going to get
