Ryan Reynolds Briefly Talks Green Lantern on NBC's Today

This morning Ryan Reynolds was interviewed on NBC's Today show, and the subject of Green Lantern came up briefly.

Q: Were you a fan of that comic book as a kid?

A: I knew the logline, I knew the basics of it, but I won't pretend to say that I was a fan of it at all, but when I dove into it I realized it was kind of the Star Wars of the DC universe. It has infinite storylines and possibilities.

Q: You've said that filming in that outfit in New Orleans in the summer was like shooting an entire movie inside of Alec Baldwin. What did that mean?

A: [laughs] I can't believe somebody pulled that quote.

Q: You said that.

A: I did say that. I had just watched The Departed and he was possibly the most intense guy, most intense portrayal of a character I've ever seen. He looked like he was running hot. And that's what New Oreleans is like -- it's like shooting in his aorta.

Hey, don't ask us, we only report the news.

Superman7 no I'm not joking. Dark Knight was overrated and boring. Look at Superman returns...pathetic. What has DC put out? Yes Marvel has had hit and misses but ever since Marvel started making there own movies they all lhave been realistic and modern.......Ironman 1 & 2 great! Hulk...Great! Thor and Cap are looking amazing.......Green lantern looks hokey at best....Sorry but DC just doesnt have the grounded characters that marvel has.

Why not respond to me does the truth hurt? I loved DC! I grew up on DC watching Super Friends every Saturday morning. Dont runaway from me talk....Look what they are doing to Green Lantern...A CGI costume? That will be an epic fail......He is going to glow all movie long. Why not talk huh huh? Why? Marvel is just better at making movies and taking RISKS!!!!!!! What does DC do? Only make Batman and Superman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Boring!

@poseidon

Marvel studio only put out 2 great movies Iron Man 1 and Hulk, Iron Man 2 was alright but its not great to compare to the first movie. WB/DC released Watchmen, V for Vendetta, A History of Violence outside of Batman and Superman.

are Marvel actually great at making movies they keep on having a dispute with the actors they hiring.

i like Marvel and DC but its not a fricking competition on who has made more movies. i want a quality comic book movies dammit.

poseidon
poseidon - 9/17/2010, 8:16 AM
Jazzman I'am with you. As long as we get quality superhero movies I'm in. Obviously Avengers will be the best. Joss Whedon is bringing together the biggest baddest superheroes from Marvel to fight a huge threat! Avengers will be epic.

poseidon - 9/17/2010, 8:17 AM
The problem with DC tooo many stupid Alien superheroes....Superman cant be hurt! Ughhh to real life threats! That's the problem with DC you heard it here...Too many Aliens! Marbel heroes are earth based and grounded with real live problems and conflicts!
jazzman
jazzman - 9/17/2010, 8:34 AM
@poseidon

u cant really say that Marvel fricking got Aliens and God characters superheroes i.e. Silver Surfer, Thor, Hercules, etc.

Superman can be hurt the only problem it never be presented on film. Superman Returns failed cause Bryan Singer did not try and read any Superman comics. he just wanted to do a Richard Donner tribute movie aka Superman Returns. even Superman comic book writters said they did not like Superman Returns they even said their was loads of source material he could of used for the movie but Bryan Singer did not even try and look at them.

@poseidon: that's a stereotype really, Superman is NOT invincible (has someone said "president Luthor"?) and there are only two aliens in the Justice League (Supes and Martian Manhunter).
There are many "down-to-earth" characters in DC comics like the original Sandman, Manhunter (not the Martian one of course), The Question.
How many comics from DC have you ever read beside Batman ('cause everybody has read it)?
Did you ever pick up a Superman book?
Like All Star Superman?
And I do not understand where someone would find the time to be bored during TDK unless that someone wasn't paying attention to the movie at all.
poseidon
poseidon - 9/17/2010, 8:53 AM
Agreed! Ok I will give Green lantern a chance and offcourse i want it to do well so this comicbook movie production run will continue for many years. NOW....Can someone make a GOOD X-Men movie because they all sucked!

@ poseidon:
yes, marvel characters and based and grounded with real live problems... bc real live pple can fly, stretch or lift cars.
Yes... that's based in reality. if you say that their problems are based in reality, make one example that doesn't appear in DC. Okay they deal with problems that pple go through, DC doesn't? like what guilt? superman is essentially taking a break from being superman (as we know) b/c the guilt has gotten to him so much, in a strictly character based story. GL is about overcoming fear, but you're right, no one can relate to that. Batman is about trying to make something good out of a sh*tty situation, but again, no one can relate to that. Flash is dealing with coming back to a life that has changed, but again, no one can relate to that.
Yep, DC character's cant relate.

Have you even read a DC comic in the past 5-6 years?

now lets address if you're basing your argument about the strength of dc characters in their movies. Any Comic story dwarfs any comic movie. The dark knight was NOT overrated... hence the public masses that went to see it (during a recession, none the less). You (more than likely) didn't like it b/c you're strictly a marvel fan, who had a preordained vision of what you wanted it to be. And it was not the type of story that you wanted to see.
Superman Returns did suck, but that's bc they essentially changed the character completely.

I actually think that having Aliens involved strengthens the stories b/c it broadens the scope.

But again, Marvel never involved aliens to broaden the scope... One word: skrull

Please don't post stupid comments.

And its not obvious that Avengers will be the best... you made that assumption based off of ZERO evidence other than you like the characters (and possibly cast). There hasn't been any footage, pics or anything. Iron Man 2 was nothing special AT ALL. (i def liked it, but it was nothing special) Iron Man 1 and Incredible Hulk were sick. But Captain America's costume looks like a cheap, crappy, spoof halloween costume.

marvel72 - 9/17/2010, 9:40 AM
dc entertainment-needs to get more charactors on the screen & stop wasting our time with shit like jonah hex,the losers & red.

i want more heroes batman, superman & the green lantern ain't enough.

marvel studios are doing fine at the moment, but they need to go cosmic maybe annihilation next, expand on their avengers franchise & try & get some of their comic rights back.

then i'll be happy.

Its funny cuz this article was about Green Lantern and yet there's always people starting flame wars. If you don't like something, that's fine. You're entitled to your opinion but there's no need attack people who are excited for something you're not. That's Elementary school behavior and generally the people who did it then weren't receiving enough attention elswhere. I suspect little has changed, smh.

I think the consensus is:

You're a troll.

please find a bus to walk in front of, or a building to jump off, DC hater.
I love the marvel slate and characters (not too excited about cap's movie costume though) But DC rules!

Now stop talking sh*t on the internet for kicks, and go take your aggression's out the way you usually do: vigorous masturbation followed by cutting yourself and crying in the shower.

What did I just sound like? Like a [frick]ing immature loner. Why are you even posting shit like that in this website. Act more civilized and respectful dipshit. You keep reitorating the same crap over and over again, which is obviously very selfish of you. You want to believe your own bullshit and ignore some wise advice from people who know the material by heart. It seems like you do not read comic books at all and base your opinions solely on the films. I do not believe you are a fanboy, more like a jerk who wants to fit in the comic book environment.
DC and Marvel are EQUAL!!!! Both in the film industry and comic book. They both share successes and have revitalized Hollywood. They both own 80% of the comic book market share. Marvel being 50% and DC being 30%. Just because there is a 20% between gap between the two, there is no indication of DC being crap compared to its rival. Don't believe the numbers, then google comicchron.com; there you will see the dominance the wo has been maintaining throughout generation. They have quality superheroes and stories to tell. I enjoy both companies' stories. Movie wise, Marvel tends to be more in tune with the comic book universe, having that over- the-top thrillride feel. DC has that serious take on superheroes, which I admire. I love the way the two have certain distinctions from each other, yet are both basically the same. I do not see them as competitors, more like colleagues. Stan Lee and Joel Seigel, the man who started the superhero frenzy with a certain blue suited with an S engraving superhero, would seriously [frick] you up for you insolence poseidon.

Calling the people who respectfully try to share their opinions with you "girls", just shows how lonely you are and the pompous ass you grew up to be. BTW, not all girls are "girly":) My sister can kick your whiney ass for all I care.
P.S. I will not reply to your impending DC rant and diss at me. What is the use of having a conversation with a child who still hasn't grown up yet.
