Total Film caught up with Reynolds a couple of weeks after Comic Con and asked him how he is feeling now that he is finished shooting Martin Campell's Green lantern adaptation..
"I just wrapped Green lantern 2 days ago. Right now I'm focusing on getting a bit of sleep, I'm not really thinking about work right now"
Reynolds wasn't too knackered to talk up both Lantern, and his next foray into the comic book movie world, Deadpool. He mentions a few things we have already heard(likens the film to Star Wars, and Hal Jordon to Han Solo etc), but when he is asked if Guy Gardener will appear in the movie..
"That remains to be seen! Someone from WB will assinate a member of my family if I reveal those details"
After a rest, its assumed that Reynolds will once again play Wade Wilson in a solo outing for The Merc With A mouth, Deadpool. Nothing is concrete however. Although Reynolds certainly seems enthusiastic about the film and Robert Rodrieguez has said he would like to direct, nothing is official yet. Even so, from the way Reynolds talks it looks like a safe bet that this will happen at some point..
"Deadpool is not a superhero movie, its a deconstruction of superhero movies so to come off Green Lantern and have the opportunity to do a movie like Deadpool is great in every way possible"
Asked whether Deadpool will "break the fourth wall(address the audience directly) as he does so often in the comics..
"The fourth wall is broken many times in the movie and its important that we do so. I can't emphasise enough how closely the tone of the comic is being followed. But its a nasty piece of work and thats whats important"
So, will this Deadpool be the same creature we saw lose his head at the end of Wolverine? And if so, how will he crack wise without a gob?
"The two movies have absolutely no connection at all thats how! The script is going to be a little harder than the comic. If you were going to assign a rating, the comics would be PG13, the script right now is walking a tightrope between that and an R rating"
Well, that should please the many fans of the character, although my guess is it will scrape by with the PG13 when it finally does hit theaters. As for the film having "absolutely no connection" to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, well it clearly does, its Ryan Reynolds playing Wade Wilson! But I take it he means it will be a side story rather than a follow on, but it all remains to be seen.
