Ryan Reynolds On Green Lantern And Deadpool

Ryan Reynolds On Green Lantern And Deadpool

In a recent interview with Total Film, Reynolds talks about how he is feeling now that the Green Lantern shoot is wrapped and offers some more info on Deadpool. Both Guy Gardener and the fourth wall are mentioned!..

Total Film caught up with Reynolds a couple of weeks after Comic Con and asked him how he is feeling now that he is finished shooting Martin Campell's Green lantern adaptation..

"I just wrapped Green lantern 2 days ago. Right now I'm focusing on getting a bit of sleep, I'm not really thinking about work right now"

Reynolds wasn't too knackered to talk up both Lantern, and his next foray into the comic book movie world, Deadpool. He mentions a few things we have already heard(likens the film to Star Wars, and Hal Jordon to Han Solo etc), but when he is asked if Guy Gardener will appear in the movie..

"That remains to be seen! Someone from WB will assinate a member of my family if I reveal those details"

After a rest, its assumed that Reynolds will once again play Wade Wilson in a solo outing for The Merc With A mouth, Deadpool. Nothing is concrete however. Although Reynolds certainly seems enthusiastic about the film and Robert Rodrieguez has said he would like to direct, nothing is official yet. Even so, from the way Reynolds talks it looks like a safe bet that this will happen at some point..

"Deadpool is not a superhero movie, its a deconstruction of superhero movies so to come off Green Lantern and have the opportunity to do a movie like Deadpool is great in every way possible"

Asked whether Deadpool will "break the fourth wall(address the audience directly) as he does so often in the comics..

"The fourth wall is broken many times in the movie and its important that we do so. I can't emphasise enough how closely the tone of the comic is being followed. But its a nasty piece of work and thats whats important"

So, will this Deadpool be the same creature we saw lose his head at the end of Wolverine? And if so, how will he crack wise without a gob?

"The two movies have absolutely no connection at all thats how! The script is going to be a little harder than the comic. If you were going to assign a rating, the comics would be PG13, the script right now is walking a tightrope between that and an R rating"

Well, that should please the many fans of the character, although my guess is it will scrape by with the PG13 when it finally does hit theaters. As for the film having "absolutely no connection" to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, well it clearly does, its Ryan Reynolds playing Wade Wilson! But I take it he means it will be a side story rather than a follow on, but it all remains to be seen.

About frickin' time for a proper Deadpool flick!!!

Let's get this thing in the can and released, before the world ends in 2012.

Yes, I know how silly that sounds, I just want this movie already...

Great find, Ror!

sweet. but if they did get someone to play Guy, they did a good job keeping that hush hush.

I don't see why it can't be connected to XMO:W. As bad as they did the character in that movie I still believe he can be saved. Give us a little info on his cancer & how he came to be Weapon XI, then fast forward to after the events of XMO:W & giv us the REAL Deadpool for the majority of the movie.

i don't trust fox at all to deliver a decent x-related movie.

i'd love to be proved wrong, but i can't see it at all.

they've dropped the ball to many times for me.

be prepared to be dissapointed with x-men first class, deadpool & wolverine 2.

we all know their comic book movie track record.

1.x-men 2
2.x-men
3.x-men 3 the last stand
4.fantastic four 2

NoPurposeNaji@ Tarantino?! What is peoples obsession with him, his movies aren't that good. Ok accept for Inglorious Bastards!! that movie was awesome but all his other stuff is just too odd. stick with Rodrieguez, we don't need this thing getting fakir'd up!

I really liked the first two X-Men films...but whatevah...

Given the spectacular failure of Watchmen, I doubt Fox will be giving Deadpool an R-rating, which I think it could use. The dudes writing the script are okay, so at least there's that?

Ryan Reynolds is the perfect Hal Jordan. I never saw him as Allen or West, or even this Wade Wilson. I cannot wait for Green Lantern! I still am in some sort of selfdenial of this movie. I cant accept that its being made. Its sooooo [frick]ing incredible!
He should stay Hal Jordan and drop Deadpool. They'd probably find a more suitable actor for him. I mean, no offence to Deadpool fans and etc but if I had the choice between the iconic Green Lantern and the less iconic Deadpool I'd choose GL.

Wasnt there an article or two here about WB maybe doing what they can to stop him playing "The Merc with a Mouth"?

Angelus@ why choose in the first place, if he is signed on to do both why not do both. And honestly from his interviews it seems like he is more committed to Deadpool than to Greenlantern, I mean he is dedicated to both roles but seems to love Deadpool more.

I once heard a funny suggestion that the Deadpool movie should start off with him watching his scenes in Wolverine and making fun of it.

I like that.

Hopefully he will find the time to make this film. He was awesome as Wilson in Origins (for the first 5 minutes) and probably the only good thing in that movie. He loves the character and he is perfect for the role.

Great find @Ror!

Damn I hope this movie gets made cause Renolds makes it sound better and better the more he talks about it. Hopefully they can get Rodriguez on board cause he would make it even better than it already is. I can't wait for this movie.

@Brazillianbatman

It made over 180,0000,000 on a budget of 130,000,000. When you factor in marketing, and the cut of that which goes to theaters, I doubt that's even making a profit.

In fact, Warner Bros was so disappointed with it, they canceled any future R-rated superhero movies because they felt the R-rating is what stopped Watchmen from being a success.

Great find ROR! :)

Although I dont want the GL movies to have a different lead chartacter in each movie (Hal Jordan in this one then Guy Gardner in the next followed by John Stewart etc) it'd be awesome if they started introducing the rest of the human 2814 Lanterns who could then appear together in a Green Lanter Corps spin-off just like in the recent comic books! As for Deadpool, everything Reynolds is saying sounds pretty damned good to me! However, the fact that Fox are making it has me less than enthusiastic.

While I'm more than thrilled that this film will have no connection to Wolverine (except that Ryan Renolds is still playing the character, Thank God) I hope that the film still take place in a universe where the X-Men exist. Lets keep in touce with that aspect of the comics while still putting this apart form the current franchise.

deadpool is so overrated.

everything he appears in automatically can not be taken seriously.

he's just a rip off of Deathstroke. I don't understand the appeal...
kooldeath
kooldeath - 9/1/2010, 11:44 AM
Well seems to me the movie is already filmed...or thats what Ryan is implying in the statement..."The fourth wall is broken many times in the movie and its important that we do so. I can't emphasise enough how closely the tone of the comic is being followed. But its a nasty piece of work and thats whats important"

He said the fourth wall is broken many times in the movie.. he didn't say maybe or will be .. he said it is.

@corndog.. if you don't like the character don't read about .. and there is no way he's a knock off of deathstroke..DS doesnt's have a healing factor or talk to himself inside his head or break the 4th wall. if you want to take it that way .. many characters are rip off of other..Aquaman ripped off Submariner, plastic man is reed richards,Moon knight is a batman rip off...Hyperion is a superman knock off.
kooldeath
kooldeath - 9/1/2010, 11:46 AM
Actually the Taskmaster is more of a knock off of Deathstroke the Deadpool.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 9/1/2010, 12:10 PM
@ kooldeath

first of all, yes, deadpool IS a ripoff of Deathstroke. lets see...Slade Wilson / Wade Wilson. VERY similar costumes, both fight with swords and guns.

lets not forget the fact that when Lieffeld created Deadpool, Fabian Nicieza even told Lieffeld they were going to get sued over it. go do a little research. Deadpool is a OBVIOUS rip off of Deathstroke. its a fact. don't believe me? check it out

"Created by artist Rob Liefeld and writer Fabian Nicieza, Deadpool made his first appearance in the pages of New Mutants #98 published in February 1991. Rob Liefeld, a fan of the Teen Titans comics, showed his new character to then writer Fabian Nicieza. Upon seeing the costume and noting his characteristics (killer with super agility), Nicieza contacted Liefeld, saying "this is Deathstroke from Teen Titans." Nicieza gave Deadpool the real name of "Wade Wilson" as an in-joke to being "related" to "Slade Wilson", Deathstroke."

know what you're talking about before you try to call me out, partner. But thats why i said he USED to be cool, until they turned him into a bumbling moron. anyway, don't get so offended that i don't like a character you clearly do, lol.
Angelus
Angelus - 9/1/2010, 12:42 PM
@ kooldeath - I think Aqua man is the only rip off by Marvel DC has that is worth mentioning. I cant think of any besides Plastic Man and Aqs. But Deadpool surely looks like a Deathstroke rip off but enough about this!

GREEN LANTERN IS HAPPENING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
