Two comic book writers who co-wrote the Green Lantern movie script said they're thrilled with Ryany Reynolds as the lead actor for their film.

"While I didn't have any say at all in the process, I couldn't be happier," said Green Lantern screenwriter Michael Green, who also co-writes DC's Superman/Batman comic. "Ryan Reynolds is the best possible outcome. A terrific, intelligent, charismatic actor, and of course, funny as hell."

Reynolds was named by Variety on Sunday as Warner Brothers' choice to play Hal Jordan in the upcoming Green Lantern movie, which is being directed by Casino Royale's Martin Campbell. After being in a reported three-way battle for the role with Bradley Cooper and Justin Timberlake, Reynolds has won the role in time for the expected November start of production in Australia. The movie is slated to be released on June 17, 2011.

Green said the part of Hal Jordan in the Green Lantern script, which he co-wrote with Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, calls for an actor who can handle a multi-layered part.

"Hal Jordan/Green Lantern has a lot of different layers to him, and Ryan is one of the rare guys who can inhabit them all and more," he said.

Hal Jordan is a pilot who is given a powerful ring and its lantern-shaped battery after discovering a spaceship crashed on Earth. He replaces the ship's alien pilot as a member of an interstellar corps of heroes who enforce justice with their green energy-emitting rings.

Guggenheim, who's also a comic book writer on both Amazing Spider-Man for Marvel and Resurrection for Oni Press, said he'd been considering Reynolds as a good match for the character since before he ever heard his name officially associated with the part.

"It's very funny, because my wife was the first person to suggest Ryan to me," Guggenheim said. "Now, neither my wife, Tara, nor myself have any say whatsoever in the casting process. I found out via Variety, same as anyone else. But I thought Tara was right about Ryan then and I feel equally right – if not more so, thank you very much Proposal – now."

Green said that, he's liked the actor since Reynolds appeared in his first comic-related film back in 2004, as Hannibal King in Blade: Trinity.

"I've been a fan of his since I saw him kick ass in Blade 3 – and everything he's done since just shows how much depth he's got underneath his hero side," Green said. "The funny thing is, since the announcement, I've been approached by women and geeks alike telling me how psyched they are to see him put on that the ring. The only negatives I've heard at all is people worried he won't be able to play other superheroes too!"

"Ryan's a star and the perfect one for this part," Guggenheim said. "I'm extremely excited. And, yes, it's nice that my wife gets to be right – something that doesn't happen very often. Kidding!"

Well he seems thrilled, but what is your opinion for his casting choice. Do you think Reynolds is right for rubbing elbows with a galaxy full of heroes?

I am reserving judgement until I see some footage. I still say he would have made a better Wally West.

I hope this doesn't turn out like Blade 3. Reynolds isn't bad, but everyone saying how funny he is makes me think the GL movie will be a joke. I don't mind some comedy here and there, but this is and should be made serious. I am just worried it will go in the wrong direction. I still agree for him as the Flash.

GL better not get in the way of DEADPOOL.

Honestly, Reynolds could pull off both GL and Deadpool if, like in the comic book, Deadpool is scarred and Reynolds in nearly unrecognizable. But, my Fox-movie sense tells me Fox will having nothing to do with that.

Reynolds acts the same in every movie, not that he's a bad actor, but what makes anyone think he'll be different in this movie. His character is perfect for DEADPOOL.

Heck, no! He ain't right for the part. It may pull off despite him. But he's certainly not the right choice. I think ther is a consensus amongst the regulars here.

Every one talks about how funny Reynolds is and ow much personality he has, but Hal Jordon has NO personality. The guy who created Green Lantern/Green Arrow book said he is a 'guy with unlimited power and no personality'. I honestly think Reynolds talents are being wasted, he would be a far superior Wally West

Reynolds won't allow anyone else to be the comic relief; that's his department.

I think he's too old for West origin's story, now.

TheHawk- I personally only started to like Hal recently during the Sinestro Corps War but I like Kyle more than Hal. But yeah he always did kind of come off as having no stand out personality traits.

Yeah...I'm not thrilled with the casting...would have liked to have seen him as the Flash. But it is what it is now...won't do me a bit of good to complain...so I'll have to wait until some photos and stuff starts to leak...

@ Hawk - Seth Rogen is going to be Green Hornet...not Lantern...

And yes, I think Thor will outdo this movie...but we shall see in time!

They DID talk about making Supes darker about nine months ago. But since then, the glow of TDK's success has since dimmed, and Routh's and Singerman's contracts have since expired. They are falling right back into their same old habits of fastfood film-making.

Let's get this one fact STRAIGHT(wink wink, man's best super friend) here!!! WB did not make BB and TDK dark and Epic. Nolan did!!! WB was just happy to rake in the profits! Now you have the very screen writer drooling over one of the worst comic book movies ever made AS A [frick]ING REFFERENCE!!! Hell, to this day, i still have trouble saying that Elektra was the worst. To me it's a freakin tie!!! This idiot screen writter is LITTERALY saying that he's giddy for ALL THE WRONG [frick]ING REASONS!!! The very guy that is writing this very film is a [frick]ing fan of Reynolds in Blade Trinity!!! You can say that Reynolds has the talent to pull it off seriously all you want, that fact is not in question here. THE [frick]ING SCREEN WRITTER'S SANITY IS!!! If he writes Reynolds in as Hanibal King #2, you can damn well bet WB's gonna throw yet another "S" with this franchise!!! Thor will ANNIHILATE Hal's sorry ass!!!

And i hate to say it but Keven's comment makes amazing sense for once. It will look exactly like "Fantastic Four makes love to the Silver Surfer". [frick] WB PISSES ME THE [frick] OFF!!!!
