It's no secret that 2011s Green Lantern film was disappointing to say the least. For casual and hardcore fans alike. Check out the editorial video down below and lets discuss the movies many problems (few strengths), and what they should have probably done in the first place!

-What makes a good movie?

- The story

- Parallax

- Hector Hammond

- That costume

- Mark Strongs awesome Sinestro

- Ryan Reynolds Hal Jordan

- And plenty more!

* I am aware of the Green Lantern reboot in the DCCU, this is simply what I think should have happened to get it right in the first place!

It's a good if not totally redundant pitch for how to fix that movie's problems, but given that every single aspect of Reynolds' era Lantern was god-awful it'd be kinda hard not to improve it by simply scrapping the entire plot. I think had the screenplay been written by actual screenwriters these ideas you've offered might've worked because there's a real sense of ambition going on here. The DCEU Green Lantern movies should fare better since they're setting up the GLC through the Justice League movies first and THEN doing a standalone movie.

But I already wrote in great length about the 2020 Green Lantern Corps movie and how all those storylines could interweave through Justice League Part One and Part two, those articles are linked at the bottom of the RalphTheMovieMaker/Star Wars video in the Editorial section, I won't link them here though... Given your familiarity with what storyarcs work and which ones need to stay inside their panels, what would YOU do for the NEXT Green Lantern? although I get the feeling that there's a second part to this video that answers that question...

@TucksDeluxe Yeah, it was really just how to do THAT version of it, not one that fits into the DCEU. It really is just so disappointing to watch. Like you said, they should have gotten REAL, credited screenwriters for MOVIES that knew what to do.

As for what they should do now? I honestly will have to wait and see how the world is after Batman v Superman. Its really hard to tell. That mostly depends on if they are going to do Hal Jordan again. Which I hope. Even with the Green Lantern Corps movie, I want Hal involved somehow. I am (kinda) fine with Kyle or John led Green Lantern, only as long as it isn't told like they are the first human Lanterns, and that Hal is kind of known and established to the other members of the corps.

Story wise? I'd kill to see a GL trilogy leading up and centered around the Sinestro Corps War. As much as I love Blackest Night, thats just too much storytelling and history missing to be done in movies.

I think the maain problem by far was the tone. This movie had the tone of a raimi spiderman movie, which works really well for SM but definetley not for GL. Just imagine a GL movie with the tone/action/cgi of MOS and you have the perfect GL movie.

As for the DCEU, I think they should first introduce John Stewart in JL. He should mention that he is not the first human GL (alluding to Hal). Then, in the GL movie, a White Lanter (or something) resurrects Hal Jordan, who is revealed to have been killed by Siniestro before John became a GL. Hal would team up with John to fight the Sinestro Corps.

@TucksDeluxe @neihofft What do you think of my pitch?

Stopped watching after you said, "we don't need to see his family".

You clearly aren't very versed on Hal Jordan if that's the case. His family is not only more expansive, but more important than most in the comic book world...seeing as he has 2 brothers who aren't heroes but have expansive backstory, a mother who influenced his life choices as a renegade and whose death he missed, a cousin who is a super hero, etc, etc, etc...

@Arrowverse I own every Green Lantern book from 1986-2011.I am very familiar with him. For this movie, I didnt think we needed to see his family when it was written poorly as hell. That could again, be saved for other emotional moments that I talk about in the video.

@BruceWillis - Truth be told I don't know JACK SHEEEYIT about Lantern Lore, but for some reason it's one of the most fascinating projects on DC's upcoming slate - it's also the farthest away from being released. So we're gonna have to sit through 5 more years of Lantern speculation and that's plenty of time to develop good theories, the theory I came up with is to have EVERY Earth lantern introduced simultaneously after Hal Jordan merges with PRLX and starts killing Oans (because in one of the Justice League movies Coast City gets destroyed and they won't let him repair it) so all of these fallen Lanterns' Power Rings flee to other sectors and four of them make it to Earth. Then it's like a vignette sort of deal, an Arab street racer, a Detroit architect, a Baltimore police officer, and a Hollywood graffiti artist -- they're all found to be worthy by the rings.

Sort of a "throw everything at the wall and see what sticks" approach but hey, it sounded so cinematic and powerful in my head, even though most GLC fans hated Emerald Twilight, just reading an encyclopedia entry about it gave me the chills. It depends on how they portray Hal Jordan in the movies, can he be a villain someday?

@Tucksdeluxe brief history of the earth guys. As to why there is more than one.

"Earth originally had one Lantern: Hal Jordan. Guy Gardener was selected as Hal's backup. Guy was active as Earth's Green Lantern (and for all of sector 2814) several times when Hal was missing, presumed dead, out of touch, or otherwise unavailable.

Guy and John Stewart both became Green Lanterns while Hal was retired (and later dead). There's a VERY long story there, but they traded back and forth a bit. Guy got booted from the Lanterns for a while, but acquired a different (yellow) ring and later a different power set, before rejoining the Corps.

Later, Jordan - understandably upset after his city was destroyed during the Death of Superman arcs - went kinda berserk and killed or maimed a lot of the Lanterns. He ended up destroying the Corps. Kyle Rayner of Earth was found by a Guardian - Ganthet - and given the last ring. He served as the only Lantern for years, before helping to refound the Corps.

Eventually, Jordan was restored to life (and cleansed of an alien entity which had been responsible for his evil actions) and all four of Earth's Lanterns were alive and had green rings again.

In recent times, the Corps has doubled in size: each sector now has two Lanterns. Officially, Hal Jordan is GL 2814.1 and John Stewart is GL 2814.2 (Earth being in Sector 2814). Guy and Kyle are members of the Green Lantern Honor Guard - described as Lanterns with no sector. The Honor Guard are 3rd in line as decision makers on Oa, and are free to act in any Sector they choose.

Other members of the Corps have been known to complain about the number of 'Earthens' represented in the Corps - most species have only a single active member at a time (if that many)."

@neihofft Thats a very cool and short summary!
@TucksDeluxe I read your article and its awesome. Im not sure though thats the GL movie I want. What do you guys think about an (loose) adaptation of GL: Rebirth? Read the wiki about it. Jon Stewart would have been the GL in the JL movies and you could still tell the Emerald Twilight story about how Hal went insane and died before Jon got his ring. Now Parallax has returned, Hal is resurrected, Sinestro is behind everything, etc. It would be a cool set up for the Sinestro Corps War!

@TucksDeluxe Thats great! Are you reading it for the first time? The problem with adapting that story is how ypu resurrect Hal because in the comic its kind of weird and you have all that Spectre/Spirit of Vengance thing that is kind if weird. In a movie the only way to resurrect him logically would probably be with a white ring or something.
