BLADE: TRINITY Director David Goyer May End Up Helming GREEN LANTERN CORPS

We already know that Man of Steel scribe David Goyer is working on the Green Lantern Corps screenplay, but according to a new report, he may very well end up directing the movie as well...

We heard last night that Warner Bros. want to put one of five projects on the fast track so that they can be released alongside Aquaman in 2018, but could Green Lantern Corps be it? Well, on the latest addition of Meet The Movie Press, Tracking-Board E-i-C Jeff Sneider revealed that David Goyer, who is currently writing the screenplay alongside Justin Rhodes, may step into the director's chair!

It's noted on the show that Goyer, "could very well wind up directing Green Lantern Corps himself," and that may not be music to the ears of some fans. After all, the writer's work has often proven to be divisive, while his crack at the superhero movie genre crashed and burned with Blade: Trinity.

Since then, he's directed episodes of Flashforward and Da Vinci's Demons, but nothing anywhere close to the scale of Green Lantern Corps. Handing over a project like this to Goyer regardless of when it's ultimately released is a risky move and one which may spell doom for a franchise in desperate need of some capable hands after the 2011 version flopped with critics and at the
box office

@ConnorHawkeye - Hopefully they bring in Antoine Fuqua instead of Goyer to direct GL. Fuqua has proven that he can deliver a great action ensemble blockbuster with Magnificent Seven and get the best performances out of his actors as he did in Southpaw and Training Day. With Reeves directing Batman, and Gibson/Vaughn rumoured to direct DC Films, anything is possible.

@PrinceAwesome - Yes, that would be amazing,
Great choice!
Maybe even get Denzel as John Stewart!

@ConnorHawkeye - dream casting man, it would be incredible if Fuqua convinced Gyllenhaul to jump on the hype train as Hal too since they worked previously. They can have a veteran-rookie type of thing going on. Wont be the most comic book faithful but dam it would be really nice to see.

@PrinceAwesome - So did Martin Campbell, who knows if he's accustomed to effects-heavy stuff.

@DetBullock - Campbell was a one hit wonder of a director. He did nothing special after Casino Royale. Fuqua has proven that he can handle all the action in Mag Seven and direct complex character arcs in Equalizer and Southpaw. Training Day is another classic too.

@PrinceAwesome - Campbell did also Goldeneye and the first Zorro with Banderas and many other movies, he was a tried and proven director of action films with a long career behind him but still he had problems doing a CGI heavy movie.

@DetBullock - But none of them had ensemble casts with multiple character and story arcs that showed how our protagonists grew from the challenges raised from the antagonist. Character progression is the one thing Campbell lacked in most of his films. Fuqua has experience in these fields.

@PrinceAwesome - Southpaw and Training Day were great! I do not understand the hype for Magnificent 7! I thought it sucked. Especially compared to the original and not it's comparable at all to The 7 Samurai which is a masterpiece!!!

@90caliber - Its nowhere near on the level of the originals, but it definetely holds up as its own modern retelling of the story. It reminded me a bit of the classic shoot em up westerns we used to have back in the day

Yeah, hell no. We can criticize his writing, because all he needs is a leash (like Nolan gave him), but all of his directed films have been bad. We all look at Blade Trinity, but there are three others that suffered the same fate. Hell, if you never knew he directed three other films other than Blade 3, there is a reason!

Hire someone else.
