DEADPOOL 2 Star Ryan Reynolds Never Actually Watched The Final Version Of GREEN LANTERN

2011's Green Lantern very nearly killed Ryan Reynolds' career but he's since rebounded thanks to Deadpool. Now, the actor reveals that he never got around to watching the DC Comics adaptation...

Green Lantern was a massive disappointment both critically and commercially and it very nearly ruined Ryan Reynolds' career (it certainly brought an end to studios looking at him as a box office draw anyway). Now, the Deadpool 2 star has confirmed that he's avoided watching the final cut of Martin Campbell's DC Comics adaptation for the past seven years...then again, can you really blame him?

"Look, I’ve never seen the full final version of Green Lantern," Reynolds admitted in a chat with EW. "I saw a very late stage rough cut of the film." Surprisingly, the actor doesn't actually have a definitive reason for not watching. Instead, he had a more diplomatic answer. "Now, that isn't to say that I didn't want to see it because I didn’t like it. I have movies that have been received pretty well that I haven't seen, and then I have movies that I have seen 100 times that people don’t like but I just like."

As for why that Green Lantern joke was included in Deadpool, he added: "The Green Lantern [joke in Deadpool] to me is just sort of, I don't know, kind of fun. It's me just taking the piss out of me, but it's more Wade [Deadpool’s real name] though." What did you think of Green Lantern? Were you disappointed by the movie or is it not as bad as people say? Let us know your thoughts down below.

SURE you didn't, have to give him credit for getting Deadpool made, he saved his career, every movie he's made except Deadpool was in the toilet bowl, he has such a horrible filmography.

I still enjoy the movie all the same. I always end up putting it on every once in a while as I work. Has some cool moments, plus the trailers are still pretty awesome.

@MosquitoFarmer - Same here for me it just needed a director who was more experienced in the genre and a rewrite focusing it more on OA wouldn't have hurt.

Basically have the movie set in the 80s with Jordan finding the ring and goes to help the GL Corps to fight the Manhunters and Hal stays on OA at the end.

@Nicklander - It is a shame, because Martin Campbell has made some damn good movies.

@MosquitoFarmer - Yeah Mask Of Zorro,Goldeneye and Casino Royale are [frick]ing fantastic and The Foreigner was a nice return to form.Campbell launched Bond in the 90s with a bang and then re-introduced him with Casino Royale even beating Jason Bourne in his own game. Martin Campbell is a legend.

@Nicklander - I love that he had two awesome introductory films for new James Bond's (Brosnan & Craig). The Foreigner was really cool, for both Cambell and Jackie Chan. The action scenes were crazy. I also like Edge of Darkness, which after Casino Royale people were expecting a more straight up action movie, but Mel Gibson was very good in it. And I've also watched Vertical Limit a bucketload of times. That's a pretty fun one; and not altogether too many movies like it.

Good on him. I wish I hadn't seen it, either. If I could go back and time and let the air out of the car tires so we couldn't get to the theater to watch that horror show, I would in a heartbeat.

lol i remember being very excited for Green Lantern back in 2010, but the instant i knew a Captain America movie was coming out the same next year i rather decided to go watch Cap instead, worth it.

I really hope they get their shit together and make a great GL movie, Green Lantern is an awesome character and he derserves some good love and redemption.

His Green lantern is like a couple deciding to have a kid. Wife gets pregnant. But mid way they decide to give the kid up for adoption so it's just horrible all the way around. Why ask to see the kid when who might end up in foster care when you knowingly messed up creating sonething in the first place. But I still love Van Wilder

That Bruce Timm series was pretty cool. Still can't think of a way to make an effective Green Lantern motion picture. Other than "Space Cops"

Maybe he's like jesse eisenberg. Why would you watch your own movie? You're in it, so you know how it goes

@ImmovableForce - I know eisenberg said he thinks it's awkward to see himself on screen. Wouldn't surprise me if more actors would think the same about this

@MalseMarcel - im not an actor but i can't even stand my own voice let alone watch myself on video ......i just cringe 😂

L0RDbuckethead - 5/3/2018, 7:56 AM
@MalseMarcel - I sympathize. If I was an actor, it'd be hard to watch anything that I was in, unless it was a film that really interested me.

@L0RDbuckethead - Agreed. I'd probably spend the whole movie going "Ugh. I'm glad I read the line that way, but I really wish I had pushed it a little further, or held back on it a little more.". Not only that, but I'm sure some actors feel narcissistic. I imagine, for some, it feels similar to liking your own posts and comments on social media.

@SisterSunday52 - Yeah I would overly criticize myself and I feel like it would make my enjoyment of the film less.

@MalseMarcel - Lots of actors say this although I don’t know if I’be come across any who won’t watch some, but do watch others.

Makes sense, I guess. Most actors will know by the rough cut, whether or not the movie is any good, or a potential career killer. So a lot of times while promoting their films, the stars have to literally act like it's worth seeing, in order to try and sell it, even if they KNOW it sucks.😂

I never quite understand actors who don’t watch their own work, While I get that it may be an uncomfortable experience aren’t they at least a little curious to see how the story they wanted to tell and days of work spent actually turned out in the end? Unless they just did it for the money

@manofillintent1 - Most of us hate the sound of our own voice. So I think that could play a part in it.

I don't see how this is possible. I've heard other actors claim this, as well. Don't they attend the premiers of the movies?

@GeneralZod1138 - a lot slip out the backdoor when the movie starts.
