Tyrese Gibson Confirms That He's Been In Talks With Warner Bros. For GREEN LANTERN CORPS

The Fate of the Furious star Tyrese Gibson has been harping on about Green Lantern for years but in a new interview, the actor confirms that he's been talking to Warner Bros. about starring in the movie.

We've been hearing from Tyrese Gibson about possibly playing John Stewart since early 2015 and he keeps on trying to gain fan support on social media for to take on the role in Green Lantern Corps.

However, while you might think that the actor is living in fantasy land, he's now confirmed in an interview with Syfy Wire that he has actually spoken to studio execs at Warner Bros. about the upcoming movie (which does have a writer but neither a director or release date at this stage).

"I would love to do it. You know, I had a couple meetings at Warner about it. I just think that they’re still trying to figure out what the move is. I would love to officially confirm, but I can’t. And if they go in a different direction, I think they know what’s best for the movie, but the fans started this campaign, and all I’ve done is made use of my social media to let folks know I’m interested."

Him landing the role is far from confirmed then and at 38, Gibson could be far too old to play the hero, especially when a rumoured casting call recently suggested that Warner Bros. wants someone between 21 and 30 to star as John Stewart. With that in mind, he's unlikely to be chosen but it makes sense that they would reach out to The Fast and Furious star given how many headlines his campaign generates.

What do you guys think? As always, be sure to share your thoughts on this news in the usual place.

"I had a couple meetings at Warner about it."

Tyrese - "Can I play John Stewart in your upcoming Green Lantern movie? My fans really want me to."

WB Exec - "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA What fans? No."

I already had minimal interest due to Goyer writing it but if he takes the role, count me out. DCEU needs great heroes and compelling characters. This is a combination of good writing and charismatic actors and they currently lack both with few exceptions.

@Jeight8 - I am a big DC fan and supporter. I also like Gibson (seems like a nice guy) but all his roles have been one type of personality and I have never seen him in anything but the one-liner slinging token black guy (and I hate these BS roles). Gibson (as far as I have seen) is not the right fit. There is plenty of talented black talent out there and Gibson (sorry man) is at the bottom of my list. I say if DC is set on him, they should release the casting videos publicly so we can see he's got acting chops... because I don't think he does. Can anyone name a movie where he actually has demonstrated a really good performance other than what I've said (and don't say Fast and Furious because that is exactly the one-liner role I am talking about).

@InvisibleMan - Idris Elba all the way

@Jeight8 - He works when writing. He only really falls in the director seat.

@InvisibleMan - It's cut and dry. he is not right for the role. He acts nothing like Stewart in films and he doesn't have the range to adapt. I wish i could say WB won't cast him but they have casted actors with limited range before in that universe

Jeight8 - 7/16/2017, 7:52 AM
@Origame - He doesn't work when he writes either. And before you bring the Dark Knight trilogy he only had story credit for that and Nolan wrote the script himself. Ghost Rider 2, Jumper, MOS, BvS and numerous other examples.

@InvisibleMan - an aged vet John Stewart ring slinging with guy?

@Jeight8 - I wouldn't count Man of Steel or Batman v Superman among the trash that is Goyer's writing resume. Those movies, with the exception of the casting of Eisenberg, are just as brilliant as The Dark Knight Trilogy. Of course, they too are as good as they are with little to no thanks to David Goyer. Man of Steel was co-written by Christopher Nolan, before he foolishly took his name off of it, and Batman v Superman was saved by Chris Terrio and Zack Snyder. Yes. Zack Snyder. Wonder Woman proved that his vision works as long as the right attention is given to it.

But, like you said, David "Superman would be so much cooler if he renounced his American citizenship" Goyer can barely write his name on his own, without it being a total disaster. Until Geoff Johns inevitably replaces him as writer, this movie is doomed.

@Jeight8 - No he definitely wrote it. I just looked it up before writing my comment. Nolan was involved but Goyer did write it. Also the Blade movies as well. Can't forget those. It's a matter of getting a good director to work on it. Which is the same for every movie.

@AMrSundayGirl58 - Goyer gave us the best live action Nick Fury.

Please no. I wouldn't mind Tyrese for a side character within any universe....he can be funny at times, but as John Stewart....that would be a severe miscast.

he looks the part. but maybe someone more unknown, more serious and humble. like chadwick boseman for BP. Idris Elba isnt much of an unknown, but he'd be a great John Stewart.

Nah, he's a lightweight. After Black Panther casted just about all of the best black actors, DCEU will need to bring it.

Mahershala Ali or GTFO

If you can't get Ali as John Stewart, recast him as Joker or Lex. He would be the perfect Joker or a perfect Lex

Better than Jesse & Jared could ever be

@LEVITIKUZ - lmao. recast him as Lex. if there would be many Jokers in DCU ... i can dig it. but Lex ?!
Menks123
Menks123 - 7/16/2017, 7:51 AM
@jerryblake - He would destroy it as Lex. I still want to see Leto with a more prominent role and better writing going against Batman to get a final feel for him.

@LEVITIKUZ - Great choice for John Stewart. This guy has good range. I've watched him on Netflix's House of Cards and Luke Cage and the guy can act! We definitely need a new Lex and my first choice is still Billy Zane. We need a new Joker too.

@LEVITIKUZ - Ali would be awesome as Stewart. Another good pick is his Moonlight Co-Star Trevante Rhodes

God I hate that Luke Cage killed him off
