Don't expect a third Sin City movie anytime soon as Sin City: A Dame to Kill For opened with only $6.48 million this weekend, a fraction of what the last one earned. It's been a long time since the first movie and the interest in the franchise has clearly vanished during that period. Guardians of the Galaxy meanwhile is back at #1 this weekend - after four weeks of release no less - with an estimated $17.63 million, an amount which easily topped soppy teen flick If I Stay (that earned $16.36 million). The Marvel movie's domestic total now stands at $251.88 million, giving it a worldwide cume of $489.4 million. It should reach $500 million any day now and analysts expect it to near $300 million domestically, becoming the highest grossing movie of 2014 in the process.
Now, a few other updates for you. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles took $16.8 million this weekend, giviing it $145.61 million domestically and $238.8 million worldwide. That movie was produced by Michael Bay, but one that he directed - Transformers: Age of Extinction - has over $1.065 billion globally now. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has racked up over $557 million worldwide, while Hercules could make a dent in Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's run as box office king as it's earned only $160.6 million globally. Which of these movies did you most enjoy this summer?
